Diego Costa is expected to be fit for Chelsea’s midweek match with PSG. Claudio Ranieri plays down Riyad Mahrez’ injury fears, Palace playmaker Yohan Cabaye is forced off against Liverpool, whilst Mauricio Pochettino reveals that Dele Alli is playing through the pain barrier.

Chelsea
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s home clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, Guus Hiddink revealed that Diego Costa is likely to recover from a minor tendon injury, while John Terry looks set to remain sidelined with a hamstring complaint:

“He (Diego Costa) had a little bit of a problem with a tendon. He could have started, to be honest, but then the risk was there and afterwards I might be left saying, ‘Why did I risk him?’ I don’t think John will make Wednesday.”

Since Gameweek 22, Costa has only failed to deliver attacking returns once – chalking up five goals and three assists in the process – which prompted over 200,000 Fantasy managers to snap him up in recent weeks. Looking beyond the Blues’ Gameweek 30 blank, they embark on a trio of match-ups (WHU, avl, swa) that could cement the ex-Atletico Madrid frontman as a key Fantasy recruit in the closing stages of the campaign.

Crystal Palace
In the wake of his side’s 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool, Alan Pardew explained that Yohan Cabaye was withdrawn due to a knock.

Leicester City
Riyad Mahrez raised fears regarding his fitness when he pulled up with an apparent muscular injury in the second half of Leicester’s trip to Watford. Claudio Ranieri would latter assuage these concerns, confirming that the Algerian winger was merely suffering from cramp and was substituted as a precaution:

“It’s not an injury, just a little cramp, but his job was done and I prefer to change him. It was nothing. He wanted to continue, but I thought his job was done. We had to be solid in defence.”

Newcastle United
Paul Dummett limped off at the 31-minute mark against Bournemouth, having only made his return from a hamstring problem in midweek.

Norwich City
Robbie Brady (calf) and Steven Naismith (hamstring) were both subbed off at the Liberty Stadium with muscular complaints. Although Alex Neil is confident that neither injury is serious, he admitted that further assessments are necessary:

“Losing Robbie so early in the game was a blow because he is a big player for us and then Steven Naismith later on with a hamstring problem. That certainly doesn’t help our cause but we just need to wait. I think both felt the injuries and we got them off as soon as we could. I don’t think it is tears or anything like that, there was a bit of discomfort and they were not capable of moving properly so they put their hands up.”

Sunderland
Wahbi Khazri picked up a knock in the second period against Southampton, rendering him a doubt for the Tyne-Wear derby in Gameweek 31.

Tottenham
Mauricio Pochettino has conceded that Del Alli is nursing a couple of knocks as Spurs attempt to step up their bid for the title. The Spurs boss also admitted he may consider resting the youngster at some point, depending on his fitness levels:

“He is an incredible athlete, yes, but he is not a machine. He has a problem in his ankle and knee. He was good before the game but the players are not machines…It depends (if he will rest Alli). We assess the players every day and we take the best decision from the team. We have a lot of players who are young and in their first or second season in the Premier League. It’s very tough and we spend a lot of time analysing and to find information to give the best training sessions or recovery, or to find the best way to help them.”

Pochettino’s decision to hand Alli a brief sub appearance at West Ham last midweek saw Spurs fall to a rare defeat and, despite his ongoing knocks, it was no surprise to see him return to the starting XI for the visit of Arsenal. Alli is suspended for the midweek Europa League clash against Dortmund on Thursday, though, thus allowing him to recharge his batteries ahead of Sunday’s visit to Villa. Given that up to ten teams could be without a fixture next weekend, a spot on the bench against the Villains would be a real blow at a time when our options are already restricted due to the FA Cup schedule.

Watford
Miguel Britos sustained a hamstring issue during the warm-ups prior to Watford’s head-to-head against the Foxes. In the Uruguayan defender’s absence, Quique Sanchez Flores believes that full-back Nathan Ake can flourish in a central role:

“Ake normally plays as a left-back but he knows perfectly how (Craig) Cathcart or (Miguel) Britos work in other positions because they are defenders and they train together every day.”

West Bromwich Albion
According to local reports, Craig Dawson was removed at the 55-minute mark against Manchester United with a minor foot injury.

Suspensions

As many as five players received their marching orders over the weekend fixtures. Here’s a quick rundown of the guilty parties, along with the repercussions..

Arsenal
Having been dismissed for two bookable offences during the North London derby, Francis Coquelin will sit out Arsenal’s FA Cup fifth round replay against Hull City on Tuesday. On that note, the Gunners’ home encounter against West Brom in Gameweek 30 will have to be rescheduled if they triumph over the Tigers.

Everton
Kevin Mirallas received his marching orders for earning two yellows in the first half of Everton’s clash against West Ham. Given that it was his second red of the season, the Belgian wide man will now be unavailable for the Toffees’ FA Cup tie against Chelsea and visit from Arsenal in Gameweek 31.

Liverpool
James Milner was sent off for accepting a yellow card either side of the half at Selhurst Park. The 6.5-priced midfielder – who bagged two goals and as many assists in his previous four starts – misses the Reds’ trip to Southampton in Gameweek 31.

Manchester United
Afforded an early bath by way of two fouls in the opening 26 minutes at The Hawthorns, Juan Mata sits out the Red Devils’ FA Cup quarter-final against West Ham and will be available for Gameweek 31.

Southampton
Deemed to be the last man when Fabio Borini penetrated Saints’ back line and was brought to the ground, Jose Fonte received a straight red and a one-match ban, ruling him out of Southampton’s road tie against Stoke City this weekend. As such, Maya Yoshida will likely slot alongside Virgil van Dijk at the Britannia Stadium, with Ronald Koeman somewhat forced into retaining a four-man rearguard – to the detriment of Matt Targett’s 9% ownership. The disbandment of Saints’ first-choice central defensive partnership diminishes their clean-sheet potential against a Potters outfit that’s rediscovered their attacking verve, tallying seven goals across the past four Gameweeks.

I was quite late to the Ozil bandwagon annoyingly, so I don't have too much money tied up in him. I'd be losing more on Bellerin, or Payet. I'd be getting him straight back in. Don't have that much faith in Silva/Yaya yet.

3rd goes straight into the CL. I'd much rather take that and no cup than the pressure of playing against a potentially strong European side when my players have only just returned from their holidays (if they even have).

If Arsenal go into the playoffs round we'll get seeded as our UEFA coefficient is sky high. I back us to make it through every time.

Sure you'll get seeded, but you may still end up playing some very tough opponent in the league rout (say, from Russia or France, or even Spain if the 4th placed team is not Sevilla). I'd back you go through too, but those pre-season matches are always risky.

Actually, probably not Spanish (both Villarreal and Athletic have pretty decent UEFA ranking), but there's a non-negligible chance that it could be Mönchengladbach. Of course, you'd be huge favourites, but these could be tricky matches. I'd much rather avoid that match than have a mostly meaningless cup title. Securing CL football is much more important.

But both are massively realistic goals at the moment so why can one of them prematurely?

For a club like Arsenal that can play PL and CL, FA Cup is of little importance. That PL success is more likely if they rest the first team in FA Cup, so that's why not to play the first team in FA Cup.

Assume Wenger lined up the first team at Hull and won. He'd then have an FA cup match this weekend before the prestige match against Barcelona. Sure he'd then play the reserves against Watford and by all chances would crash out then?

And what would he have won, is schedule trouble later on with the postponed WBA match.

You're making a much bigger think out of 4 extra matches in the schedule than it actually is. And for a club that's only got a long shot at winning the CL and who has reduced financial dependence on the CL due to the increasing PL deal, the main domestic cup is definitely worth pursuing.

With the intention to win the league I can see more reason to look after key players, but your 3rd place and no cup vs 4th place with FA Cup argument is poo.

CL is not just money. It's prestige. It's the competition that these clubs want to play, and need to play. Just to be there, play the group stage, have that chance to encounter Barcelona in the knock out rounds. That's the thing I'd like to get season after season if I was a fan of some football club. The domestic cups are for those who just can't get the first thing.

Right but money talks too. Kompany, Adebayor, Wayne Bridge, Kolo Toure, Yaya Toure, Robinho and David Silva all gave up CL chances to move to City before they were a CL team. It is possible to survive without. But anyway you're moving the goalposts.

I'd rather 4th and a cup to 3rd and no cup
but I'd rather 4th and no cup to 5th and the cup.

Or, better yet, you play the first team, still lose on extra-time, and have everybody tired for the WBA match, rest the first team in that match, lose three points to field the best 11 again at Barcelona, come back tired, knocked out of CL, for another away match right after it, lose another 3 points and are back in the fight for the 4th place.

You may refuse to see it, but you're in a heckuva bad situation if you're going to have to play both Everton and WBA with either first team tired from midweek clash, or the bench. And you're already going to have that against Everton, and likely bad result from that match. You're going to need those WBA points, desperately.

You're putting far too much on this fatigue threat. Leo Messi started 57 out of 60 games on his way to the treble last season playing the full 90 in 55 of them.

If Arsenal have a problem its an talent problem of the players available not a fatigue problem.

Definitely will Özil, probably also Bellerin. And Coquelin is suspended anyway, and Koscielny Cazorla and Cech are injured.

I don't see why he would rest Welbeck, though, when the guy hasn't played a full match for ages and hasn't started two matches in a row all season. Will start him more likely.

Hull have a chance for sure.

But Arsenal's weakened team will probably have a front three of Walcott and Campbell flanking Giroud. Hull's first string would struggle with that, and Bruce has confirmed he will rotate.

All these players don't have DGWs.

How many of these non-DGW players are we planning on retaining in our WC teams?

I've got the logic of a WC gw33 for the next week's DGW and bench boost with 15 Dgws.

BUT... This will mean selling a lot of the form players, Leic and Spurs in particular. While the attraction of 2 Dgws and no blank for Liverpool gw35 is compelling, I'm not sure there are 3 lpool players I'd want, Firmino is just about it, though I am sure some would say Coutinho.

Is this nirvana of amassing Dgws in 34 really going to work, cos double 2 points is only 4 points...

I think it is going to work. The teams we will be looking at for most of our players i.e. Pool, City, Arsenal have easy-ish fixtures in gw 35 and again in 36. Yes Lei and Tottenham have easy gw 35 fixtures but then Lei play Utd in gw 36 and Spurs play Chelsea. Difficult fixtures at least on paper. I'd really only want to hold on to Mahrez and maybe Kane for dgw 34 through to gw 36 anyway. Therefore I'd be okay with 13 or 14 dgwers in gw 34. And when we WC in gw 33, we'd surely roll our gw 34 transfers (barring any injuries) allowing us to make two swaps before gw 35.

As for Pool options, I'd want a defender who's nailed on (or mignolet), Firmino and depending on the team's form, another attacker or defender. Too early to decide as you never know if Studgy will be fit and firing by then

Crap pretty much. That late Kaka injusry made me rebuild my midfield an hour before games started and then Accam appeared as a pick but I couldn't stand rebuilding again in the last 15 minutes.
50 something only but will now hope Kaka comes back so I can get my original mids in.

Quite ok, I think. 79 points after picking 12 players I've never heard about 😀
Villa (C) was a big fail, also Francis (SJ) got subbed at HT and my bench is not existent. Worra, Fernandez, Woodberry and Salloi played a combined total of 0 minutes. Think I need some new defenders.

Yeah I had Francis also, only defender that played in a team thatbgot a CS and he is subbed 🙁
Had Woodberry a lot last season, one of the most frustrating players to own as there is now way to tell when he will play or for how long. Just horrible but cheap.
Thinking about getting Diaz in Dallas mid, seemed almost everything went through him. Varela who I had was the same.

Woodberry was in a predicted line-up I saw, thought he would play. Parker (VAN) was also a let down - didn't expect them to concede 3 goals at home. Diaz is in my team, he looks like a great pick, maybe Castillo too. Which team is Varela from ?

                  Varela from Portland.

Couple of questions - I'm sure they've probably already been discussed (a lot), but I've been offline for a while:

    1. When is the best time to WC?
    2. Do we know when most of the DGWs will be / when are they likely to be?

    Thanks in advance

Bare in mind I currently have Ozil in the line up but I fly away on holiday tomorrow so won't know if the game against West Brom will be cancelled. Starting Ozil and Daniels coming up in off the bench seems like the best idea atm. Advice appreciated. Thanks.
