Diego Costa finds the net before limping off as Chelsea tumble out of the Champions League. Everton’s Bryan Oviedo is recuperating after being rushed into hospital with chest pains, Sunderland sign free agent Emmanuel Eboue, whilst Antonio Valencia could be back on the bench for United tonight.

Blues Fall to Defeat

Losing 2-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate, Chelsea crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain. In the absence of John Terry, Gus Hiddink fielded Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic in central defence, while Kenedy filled in at left-back. Courtesy of a Willian assist, Diego Costa drew the hosts level after 27 minutes but was then withdrawn at the 60-minute mark due to injury. Hiddink confirmed that both Costa and Eden Hazard – who also picked up a knock – will be assessed today to determine the extent of their complaints.

The Scout Says: Costa’s propensity for niggling injuries was showcased again at Stamford Bridge, limiting the allure of a forward that’s been in great form in recent weeks, notching three goals and two assists in four starts. Jumping ahead to the Blues’ double Gameweeks, the combative frontman’s pockmarked fitness record will certainly play in the minds of prospective investors. In the event that Costa’s latest problem sidelines him for West Ham United’s visit in Gameweek 31, Bertrand Traore will likely be afforded another opportunity to advertise his talents. Priced at 5.4, the Burkina Faso international delivered attacking returns (two goals, one assist) in his last three outings for the Londoners, ensuring we keep tabs on his progress.

Oviedo scare for Toffees

Bryan Oviedo has been discharged from hospital after suffering chest pains and breathing difficulties stemming from an infection.

The Scout Says: Although Roberto Martinez was forced to revert to a four-man defence following Kevin Mirallas’ dismissal last Gameweek, he initially set out his troops in a 3-4-3 formation against West Ham, deploying Oviedo as a left wing-back. That three-centre-back system could be the way forward for Everton if they intend to reinstate John Stones, who’s been overshadowed by the impressive partnership that Phil Jagileka and Ramiro Funes Mori forged. Speaking of the latter, the Argentine’s offensive threat (three goals, one assist) renders him the choice route into the Toffees’ defence ahead of two forthcoming doubles. Joel Robles (4.3) – who’s seemingly usurped Tim Howard as the Merseysiders’ first-choice shot-stopper – also warrants closer inspection, considering that he affords wildcarders with a cheap facilitator between the sticks.

Black Cats snap up Eboue

Sunderland have signed ex-Arsenal right-back Emmanuel Eboue until the end of the current campaign.

The Scout Says: Assuming that Sam Allardyce has recruited Eboue for his experience during the run-in, DeAndre Yedlin could be set for a spell on the Sunderland bench. Regardless, the Black Cats are without a clean sheet in 15 match-ups, ensuring that Patrick van Aanholt – by virtue of his supreme attacking potential – is their only viable defender on the Fantasy market; the former Chelsea recruit ranks joint-top among his counterparts for goals (five) and charted top among defenders for attempts (eight) over the last four Gameweeks. Looking at Sunderland’s schedule (new, WBA, LEI, nor) after their Gameweek 30 blank, there’s certainly scope for Van Aanholt to profit at both ends of the pitch.

Injuries easing for United

Talking ahead of Manchester United’s Europa League clash against Liverpool, Louis van Gaal revealed that Bastian Schweinsteiger and Antonio Valencia are nearing a return to action, with the latter likely to make the bench at Anfield:

“Antonio Valencia and Bastian Schweinsteiger are coming back. I think a lot of players shall come back in the month of March. But when they come back, it is not so easy to decide if they can cope with the rhythm of a match because they are fit to train with us. For example, Schweinsteiger has only had one training session with us behind his back. Valencia has a week [behind him] so he is much closer to being on the bench, for example, but not to play a match as that’s different. I don’t think [any new players will be available] but Valencia is fit enough to be on the bench, but to play 90 minutes, I don’t think so.”

The Scout Says: Although he’s blooded a number of youngsters in the starting XI in recent months, judging from the Red Devils’ starting XI at West Bromwich Albion last Gameweek, Van Gaal will rely on experience as they attempt to muscle their way into the Champions League spots. Valued at 5.0, Valencia could be an enticing source of Man United defensive coverage during their two upcoming double Gameweeks if he can fight off competition from Matteo Darmian and, to a lesser extent, Guillermo Varela. At present, Chris Smalling represents the only secure route into their back four, yet his 6.5 price tag serves as a deterrent in light of his paucity of attacking returns (zero goals, one assist). In the short term, few Fantasy managers will be eyeing up a Red Devils rearguard that has a blank Gameweek 30 and is then pitted against Manchester City, Everton and Spurs across the next four rounds of fixtures.

Dier rested for Dortmund clash

Eric Dier has been rested for Tottenham Hotspur’s Europa League tie at Borussia Dortmund, while Danny Rose also remained in England due to the calf complaint he sustained against Arsenal.

The Scout Says: Considering that Dier – who has fired four shots inside the box in as many matches – has started all but one of Tottenham’s 29 league matches this term, Mauricio Pochettino’s decision to rest him could pay dividends from a Fantasy standpoint. Rose’s owners, meanwhile, will now be sweating on his fitness ahead of the weekend, at a time when only ten teams are faced with a league fixture. Dele Alli is also unavailable as he sits out a one-match suspension this evening. Bearing in mind that Pochettino hinted earlier in the week that the youngster’s minutes could be managed during the final quarter of the season due to a couple of knocks, tonight’s absence allows him the chance to rest and recuperate ahead of Spurs’ plum trip to Aston Villa this Sunday.

Valid point - 12 points from 2x clean sheets from de Gea could still be preferable, but could be made up elsewhere in the team with the £1.4 saved

Currently X players for this GW & need one more. Help please lads

    Butland
    Kompany / Smith / Huth / Alderweireld / Targett
    Sigurdsson / Mahrez
    Vardy / Kane / Agüero

Subs: Hennessey / Ozil / Sanchez / Stanislas

    1FT & 1.9 ITB

    1. Stanislas -> Alli (Exact funds to do the move, would give me benching problems from next week)
    2. Stanislas -> King ( OOP & a 1 week punt, but hasn't done much really to command a place in the starting XI)
    3. Stanislas -> Ritchie ( Avg PPG of 5.5 in the last 6 GW's )
    4. Targett -> Williams/Wollscheid

    Thanks in advance πŸ™‚

Reposting as I was bottom paged and really looking forward to your answers...

With things getting more and more clear which side are you on?

    A) WC GW33, BB 34, TC 37
    B) TC GW 34, WC GW36, BB GW37

I'd rather go B, as my team looks pretty solid and I don't feel like getting rid of my Leicester players just yet - I'd like go have 15 DGW players for my Bench Boost. But than again, I have no idea who would I triple captain GW34 with Kun having 2 away fixtures.

Both strategies have pros and cons. Those going with A - are you offloading your Leicester assets for juicy GWs 35-37?

Thats quite a personal decision on here so you'll get a very split decision so the answers aren't going to be very useful.
E.g. you should definitely go A, because thats what I'm doing.

I know, but I'd like to hear your opinion on potential dumping of Leicester players, which seems a key decision. Also, would you triple captain any United/Arsenal player?

Not until I see some improvement from them.
For me its far far too early to be considering getting rid of Leicester players. Still a month to go.

As of now, there's no information regarding the DW's. It's all speculation so far. So, its ideal to wait until they are announced & we can start planning accordingly.

True, but the choice between A and B somehow defines my strategy for this week.

        1. fantasykid

B as I can't see it being possible to have 15 dgwers with the blank following.

Valid point, a lot can be done to stay on track for the last 4 GW's by taking a couple of hits that you'll hopefully already will have made up for with GW34 BB.

BB is basically AOA with an extra 3 defenders + keeper. So in essence, we are all planning to use our wildcard to get a potential 4 extra clean sheets. I'm starting to favour TC as the better chip tbh

Nothing wrong with doing that, you play the players who you think will score the most. I like to try and keep a higher ceiling when I can in regards to playing my attackers against my defenders although it is not always the best strategy! United supporter myself. Kompany has scored enough times against us 😑

True, but as a game, Saints v Liverpool will be very tight, I'd expect a 0-0 or 1-0 either way

      Play B)
      Bench A)
Injuries may make this decision easier by then.

Thanks GNU. Maybe that would be a blessing in disguise. (Not that I want any of them to get injured!) I done Lingard who was usually my 5th mid bench fodder to Alli for this upcoming GW to field XI you see but it throws a spanner in the works for the next few.

Having benched Alli, Mahrez & Payet at different times of the season and been well & truly burnt it leaves Firmino & Siggy to shame me.

Yeah fortunately I didn't make them mistakes but in saying that it doesn't mean it won't happen with any of them. I love Payet as a player, I love watching him and owning him in my team I don't want to bench him. Siggy home to Villa. Looks too good to bench. Are we likely to see a push for survival from Villa at this stage where their at? The other 3 for me is who it is between. Mahrez is obviously exceptional but Leicester have been going for 1-0 wins as of late and he is off penalties. I don't know. Thankfully plenty of time to ponder.

Exactly 19 years since this game. Remember watching it in a pub and the solitary Newcastle fan putting his head in his hands for about 10 minutes at the end!

I watched it in a pub with a load of Liverpool fans. There was one Toon fan in there who was very quiet when they were 3-0 down but went crazy when they equalised in the last minute, only for Fowler to go and send him back into depression!

How you got back level in the second game I will never know as you were getting completely outplayed. The first 4-3 obviously held a lot more significance and was a far superior match. The PL was brilliant back in those days. Loved it πŸ™‚

Yeah, much as it still hurts that first 4-3 at Anfield was one of the greatest games I've seen - 2 great attacking teams slugging it out with some incredible players on display. Breathless from start to finish.

The second one was nothing like it - different context with not as much riding on it and Newcastle were dire, couldn't have complained about being 6-0 down.

Gw34 vs Gw37, BB or TC?

For those like me who is still holding WC, BB and TC has been talking about this a lot recently. I think I still can't decide. Any input, guys?

    gw34
    ---------
    1) Lesser risk of rotation (a report says that rotation percentage is 77%vs 68%)
    2) ???

    gw37
    --------
    1) Lesser rick for missing Lei and Tot's players from GW34-36
    2) ???

Can you gradually FT your way up to 10-11 DGW players by 34?
If so, consider WC in 36

Looking at the starts hot topic yesterday, I think there is serious merit in making a GW36 WC out of teams at the top/bottom (with only a few from other teams), as rotation wasn't as frequent with those teams still with something to play for. No Leicester/Spurs and stuck with mid-table players for 5 weeks worries me.

Depends on the 34/37 fixtures though, so wait for those.

    Good to go?
    Butland
    Huth Toby Otamendi
    Marhez (C) Siggy Shaqiri Alli
    Kane Aguero Vardy

Got 1 FT but is there any need to use it?

Hi any advice appreciated on this one:

Firstly- who would you sell out of Payet and Sanchez, and who would you rather hold?

Secondly- who would you buy out of Siggy / yaya / silva for GW30

Thirdly- who would you play out of Francis or target this week ?

      I'd sell Sanchez personally.

      I'd buy Siggy.

      I'd play Francis.

What's your thought process for holding payet over Sanchez?

I fancy Payet to get more points in the run in, Sanchez hasn't impressed me for his price this season, getting loads of shots but none are clinical. plus he's competing with loads of other options at Arsenal wheras Payet is central to everything West Ham (who have nice fixtures)

Would me not owning ozil alter your view in any way? Im scared having no Arsenal attacking threat will kill me especially with Ozil's high ownership. I completely agree with you on points regarding payet vs Sanchez I'm just thinking of a) no ozil and b) payet playing Chelsea in GW31

I think you should own Ozil... but that doesn't impact that I would prefer Payet over Sanchez.

Yep made a mistake doing ozil to sanchez last month regretting it now may have to do a u-turn and bite the billet. Thanks for the advice.

Any pressers today for this weekend's PL matches?

So with regards to DGW34 and Blank 35... which players are risky areas? Or do we have NO idea until after the FA Cup results this weekend?

Just trying to formulate a rough plan but not rigid in it or expecting it to remain the same..

    Lloris
    VvD - Kompany - Fuchs - Alderweireld
    Arnie - Alli - Mahrez(C) - Siggy
    Kun - Vardy

    (Henny - Ozil - Ivanovic - Ighalo)

I will be selling Ighalo as soon as someone becomes obvious as a replacement..

Hi IM! I think the best move here is to keep the FT in hand, as it will allow you to be more flexible in the coming weeks when you'll have more info regarding the fixtures

Yup, that's the plan for now, was considering taking a punt on Afobe for Ighalo but I don't like his fixtures much.. just wondering who I should be keeping an eye on!

No doubt I'll be tempted by Sturridge sometime soon again...

Cue hamstring injury in the first half of a double gameweek. πŸ˜‰

No Kane could hurt you this week! You keen on going without?

Haha exactly, that's what makes him fun sure.. πŸ˜‰

Nah I wish I had Kane.. But it would take a hit as I have Lloris - Alder - Alli..

Annoying as I have the funds for Ighalo -> Kane πŸ™

How does Payet + Khazri-> Eriksen & Ritche sound? That would be for a hit to field 11 players.

If I wildcard in GW33 and BB GW34 I will still keep Kane and Mahrez, I don't mind having those two play just one game, they have relatively tough fixtures but both players are fixture proof IMO and can potentially score just as high as some players that will play twice.

Yeah keeping Kane might not be fro definite, but I would like to keep some of my Spurs player, I also want my players to be good for a few weeks after the DGW too, I won't be bringing in Newcaslte players for example.
