The ICC World T20 moves into its third phase from Tuesday (21st March). This takes a look at the fixtures and offers those playing the game a new article for cricket discussions.

Fixtures

22nd March, Tuesday  –  New Zealand Vs Pakistan, Mohali

23rd March, Wednesday –  England Vs Afghanistan, Delhi & India Vs Bangladesh, Bengaluru

25th March, Friday – Pakistan Vs Australia, Mohali & South Africa Vs West Indies, Nagpur

26th March, Saturday – Bangladesh Vs New Zealand, Kolkatta &  Sri Lanka Vs England, Delhi

27th March, Sunday – Afghanistan Vs West Indies, Nagpur & India Vs Australia, Mohali

28th March, Monday- South Africa Vs Sri Lanka, Delhi

Discussion Points

  • From this we can see that New Zealand, Pakistan, Bangladesh play early on and their fixtures end early. So it would be good to load their players and save on some transfers.
  • Feroz shah kotla (New Delhi), Eden Gardens  (Kolkata), Chinna swamy (Bangalore) are slow pitches. But Mohali,Chandigarh is a little bit fast, skiddy, bouncy and grassy.

        This is great for you Moin. You have a good shot at making the highest score this match day. I believe there is a prize for highest score each game day. Not many others would have kept 9 transfers for today and be able to field a full team. If you get your captaincy right, you have a solid chance

    Doubt Maxwell will be a very good pick today, won't bowl a lot at Chinnaswamy and bats low and will probably struggle against Bangladesh's spin. Prefer Warner or Marsh

        Tamin was my captain in every game of the qualifying phase, but I like the two bites of the cherry Shakib offers. He's looked in scratchy form with the bat but he got a few runs last game and with a good SR that can make a difference.

        Tamin has been hit though, so why not?

      Watson, Shakib are definites for me... looking like Khawaja for the final slot (assuming all lineup as expected) would get Warner instead of Khawaja if he's replaced by Finch.

    Is there anywhere which has a nice breakdown of who bowled which over during a game? Would like to know who opens the bowling, who bowled at the death etc. without filtering through ball-by-ball commentaries.

      The front line bowlers usually bowl in the power play and then at the end.So it's good to have those death bowlers in your team. 😉

      It really does depend on the player. Some of the new ball bowlers are worth it purely for their first couple of overs during the power play, but i'd agree that bowlers not bowling in the PP are a little more threatening, especially spinners.

      I'd probably put the death over bowlers top though. Even though they get smashed around(not a big deal in this scoring system) they always get a couple of wickets.

        Spot on.The game rewards wicket taking bowlers.There is absolutely nothing for the economical bowlers.

          In the IPL game, for example, you could pick a Tambe or a Mishra, who'd bowl the middle overs, go for around 6 an over, pick up the odd wicket and there's your 60-odd points. There'd actually be a risk in taking new bowl/death bowlers because of the scoring system. Not here.

            Agreed.Bowling maidens in T20 cricket is so rare and only 20 points for a maiden over is just unfair.

              The IPL game brings every variety of player into the game and makes them a viable option. With this game it's purely openers(the odd #3/#4) and wicket taking bowlers.

          Batsmen actually get credit for a true strike rate too.

          Isn't the IPL scoring system... runs + (runs - balls), extra pts for 6's and bonus' at 25 runs+?

      Also, scheduling subs is so good. Especially if you aren't Indian and work so can't make all the deadlines. Would save many of us a bit of sleep too.

          Gayle getting crocket was unhelpful...it's odd though as there are so many points where I was 50/50 and made the wrong call and yet I'm still in a decent position. Changing captaincy from Root to AB at 1:57 still hurts.

    Shakib is somewhat being underestimated here. Taskin and Arafat Sunny getting banned recently, makes Shakib kind of the strike bowler. He actually may bowl during the 17th-19th overs. And Bangladesh middle order have been under performing the whole tournament. Shakib with his low strike rate is still in the runs. Watson may be the safe bet today, but I do think going for Shakib instead of Faulkner/Maxwell is recommended.

        Because of budget constraints, I needed to get rid of Gayle and Dilshan. That left me with 3 batsman and 3 transfers. I wanted to bring in Watson, Maxell and Shakib (3 all rounders). But I'll have to bring in either Kawaja or Iqbal instead of one of them.

    I have 4 transfers. Bringing in Watson, Khawaja (for budget and batsmen reasons). Tossing up between Shakib, Maxwell and Faulkner. Any opinions? I see several are going without Faulkner but I think his death bowling can paid off hugely

      Shakib for me. Handy with the bat as he is basically the only in form middle order batsman for Bangladesh. And Shakib is likely to bowl some of the last 5 overs. Because, if not, who else. Taskin can't play and none of the pacers bar Mustafizur seems to be a viable option.

        Agree. I've went Shakib (c) every bang game so far and he hasn't let me down yet (although Tamim did score more). I have 2 spots to fill so probably going Shakib and Maxwell like you are since Faulkner comes in to bat far too late. I just think his bowling figures will be good this game though

          I am not doubting Faulkner's likely 2 wicket figure. But Shakib is the safer option considering he will bat and score 20 off a ~100 strike rate at least(I hope).
