Vincent Kompany picks up another injury as Man City stumble at the Champions League semi-final stage. Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele is charged with violent conduct by the FA for his clash with Diego Costa on Monday night, whilst Liverpool’s Divock Origi is still hopeful of returning from injury before the season is out.

Kompany limps out of City loss

A 1-0 loss in the Bernabeu saw City’s dreams of Champions League glory extinguished at the semi-final stage.

Having fielded a second-string outfit at Southampton on Sunday, Manuel Pellegrini made eight changes to last night’s starting line-up. The likes of Sergio Aguero, Kevin de Bruyne, Yaya Toure, Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Vincent Kompany were all named in the first XI, though the latter lasted just ten minutes against Madrid before being forced off with a hamstring problem.

After a hugely disappointing performance in which his team managed just a single shot on target – courtesy of De Bruyne – Pellegrini conceded that Kompany will be assessed today after yet another injury setback.

The Scout Says: With Europe no longer a distraction, Pellegrini can now turn his attentions to Sunday’s crucial home encounter with Arsenal. The City manager’s team sheets may have frustrated us in recent weeks – with De Bruyne starting just two of the last five, for example – but considering that they need three points to overtake the Gunners in third, it seems far more likely that the Chilean will roll out his strongest side this weekend. City’s need to go on the offensive to climb back into the automatic Champions League places could be good news for De Bruyne and Aguero owners, then, whilst at the back, Kompany’s potential absence might not be as much of a setback as anticipated – the Etihad side had conceded just two goals in the previous five league matches without their captain prior to the weekend loss at St Mary’s.

Dembele Charged by FA

Mousa Dembele has been retrospectively charged with violent conduct by the FA for an alleged incident with Diego Costa in Monday’s draw at Chelsea. The Spurs midfielder has until 6pm this evening to respond to the charge.

The FA also went on to suggest that, if found guilty, the Belgian could face an extended period on the sidelines:

“Further, it is alleged the player’s behaviour constituted violent conduct in circumstances where the standard punishment of three matches that would otherwise apply is clearly insufficient.”

The Scout Says: Given the nature of the incident, it seems very likely that Dembele will play no further part in the remainder of the season. Already deprived of Dele Alli’s services due to suspension, Mauricio Pochettino could be set to face former club Southampton without two of his first-choice picks in the centre of the park. Should Dembele be handed the expected ban, our faith in Harry Kane could take a turn for the worse. Alarmingly, Spurs’ top scorer has netted just once in the nine league matches that the Belgian has failed to start this season, compared to 24 strikes in 27 outings with him in the first XI.

Origi hopeful of Reds’ return

Divock Origi has stepped up his recovery from the ankle injury that forced him off during last month’s Merseyside derby against Everton.

Discussing his fitness with the Reds’ official website, the Belgian refused to rule out a return to action before the end of the season:

“It’s progressing well. It’s been ten days now so I try and improve every day and make steps, we just try and [ensure that] I’m back as quick as possible. My goal is to come back as soon as possible and I just want to go back on the pitch. I think it’s possible but you never know.”

The Scout Says: Judging by his comments, it seems likely that Origi will miss the Reds’ upcoming double Gameweek home encounters against Watford and Chelsea. Whilst Liverpool’s team sheets remain impossible to second-guess right now, the Belgian’s continued absence could strengthen Daniel Sturridge’s chances of starts. Sturridge has been named in the starting XI in six of the last seven – scoring off the bench in the other fixture – and if he’s named amongst the subs against Villarreal later tonight, many may well be tempted to take a punt on a player with five goals and an assist in his last seven.

    Bottomed:

Currently have Cress, Payet & Lanzini, tempted to shift Lanzini > Hazard to free up room for Carroll.

Frontline is Defoe, Kane & Kun. Would you get Carroll in for Kane or Kun if your rival (18 points behind) has both Kane & Kun? If not, could get Hazard in for KDB instead.

I´m ditching Kane for Carroll, Spurs are on a downer, they wont have it easy againts and in form Saints side and the loss of Dembele & Alli will hamper Kanes Performance.

What would you say the maximum hit would be this week if you're trying to catch?

    A) None
    B) -4
    C) -8
    D) -12
    E) LOTS

    1. Rhinos
      • 12 Years

No such thing. Anyone of those hits could increase or decrease your score

      1. M00N

I'm thinking if I transfer in 2 DGW players for a 4 point hit they will essentially get my 4 points back minimum. If I -8 then I'm gonna count that as a -2. Anything more and I feel I'm starting to go backwards before the GWs started.

    2. RustyBz
      • 11 Years
      10 years, 3 days ago

Doesn't matter, but the more hits you take the smaller the chance of you making a profit overall on it.

Since it's a DGW I'd go for a -8, if you want to bulk up on the doublers. Bare in mind losing big hitters like Aguero, Kane, Mahrez, Sanchez etc increases the risk!

      1. M00N
        • 11 Years
        10 years, 3 days ago

-4 or -8 is what I was thinking.

        Kane & Mahrez ---> Carroll & Hazard

        Fuso Menseh ---> DGW Defender

the extra -4 for a defender is maybe not worth it?

        1. RustyBz
          • 11 Years
          10 years, 3 days ago

I don't fancy Carrol(-4) over Kane personally. Hazard + the DGW defender for the -4 sounds good though

Earlier on in the season everyone was relating Kane's form to the fact that Dembele was playing, has everyone forgotten this or now thinking they were overthinking things a bit??

              • 11 Years
              10 years, 3 days ago

The main reason I'm think of Carroll over Kane is the DGW but mainly the fact I need to catch and he's gonna be the differential, whereas everyone has Kane. Kanes the safe option if you're top.

Sorry that was a confusing answer...if you are transferring him out for another DGW player, who you expect to score well, or at least play 180 minutes then I would take him out, but I don't see many prospects from the DGWers

Best striker for 8.3 or under this week? Can't be Carroll or Defoe.

Anyone have anymore info on Ryan Bennett other than him just being listed as
    75% Illness?

I got him in on my GW34WC for this GW and now he's flagged

    Ozil to Payet

Nah., Rather Mannone and Cresswell. I dont fancy us to keep a single cleensheet, this week.

    Adrian - Mignolet
    Monreal - Fuchs - Bellerin - Delaney - Simpson
    Mahrez - Ozil - Payet - Lanzini - Milner
    Aguero - Lakuku - Kane

Bench boosting this week, 41 points clear, what to do?

    A) Bellerin & Ozil -> PVA & Hazard
    B) Bellerin & Fuchs -> PVA & Smalling (rival had him)
    C) Delaney, Ozil & Kane -> Smalling, Hazard & Defoe
    D) something else?

    Hi!

I am considering to use triple (C) this game week
    Who?

    PAYET or HAZARD?

    Thx

Payet a bit more consistent hazard can be explosive and pay off really well

If I'd had him from day one there's no way I'd sell him now

He'll probably have his party trick box open at the weekend - but I'm looking to get Noble or Lanzini in and he is my best way. Don't really want to lose Ozil/Sanchez with Villa looming and I have Milner and Payet likely to have a fair bit of DGW action. Lets see how Pool go tonight and I may look at Milner.

I've looked at it as Ozil has been a waste of space lately. Thing is the two closest to me in ML have him and you just know Arsenal will hammer Villa and he'll be involved..

    DDG (Robles)
    Moreno Pva Cresswell (Gabriel Rose)
Firmino Lanzini Hazard (C) Sanchez (Ali)
    Martial Sturridge Welbeck

G2G 0Ft not taken any hits yet 1.5ITB

    Thoughts?

  27. Cradders

Taken the hit, may take another but I'm currently unsure.

    Robles (Mignolet)
    Simpson, Clyne, Smalling (Huth, Koscielny)
    Sanchez, Mahrez, Payet, Hazard (Iwobi)
    Defoe, Carroll, Aguero

May be swayed by Huth to Martin if Liverpool go through. How does this look??

Would you play Mignolet over Robles??

TC Defoe currently but I might bottle it for Sanchez next GW

good fixture and worth a shout but still a massive gamble to TC any Player on the last GW, so much could be discided by then and they are just nothing games

      B...

      ManU
2nd in prem for home form
      11th away

      Lukaku
      Capable but zero form
Worth a punt? Maybe... But 14 points from his last 9 matches

I'd keep Kane personally. Not convinced "Dembele effect" will affect Spurs so late into the season. Kane chasing golden boot.

If you were chasing a lead, and own both Sanchez and Ozil, and your rival only owns Sanchez, do you think playing Ozil instead of Sanchez this week is the way to go? Or is it just too risky? (Can't play both)

Either could benefit you he may bench Sanchez never know

Thats risky, Keep sanchez so as to equal that out and go for another differential, City/ Arsenal is a tough fixture to call anyway.
