Tuesday’s Euro 16 programme will conclude the first round of group matches as Group F takes a bow, giving DraftKings managers a complete preview of all 24-qualfying nations.

Portugal’s evening clash with Iceland will offer a first look at Cristiano Ronaldo’s form – surely a key factor in the tournament and our DraftKings thinking throughout.

Earlier in the day, Austria will look to uphold their status as dark horses with a convincing opening display against Hungary.

We’ve put the four squads under the microscope, boiling things down to a choice collection of players we feel will be crucial to success in Tuesday’s DraftKings contests.

Matchday 5 Player Picks

Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal – $12,800
While Portugal have a wealth of emerging young talent, there’s no question that they remain heavily reliant on Ronaldo’s form to steer them through the tournament. With 51 goals from 48 appearances for Real Madrid last season, Ronaldo is simply the archetypal goal machine. He fired five vital goals in qualifying and has followed this up with three strikes in Portugal’s warm-up matches, including a brace in the recent 7-0 demolition of Estonia. Ronaldo appears to be fit and firing and that’s really all we need to know.

Christian Fuchs, Austria – $5900
A full-back seemingly tailor-made for our eight-man squads. Fuchs arrives in France off the back of a hugely impressive campaign for Leicester City and with numbers on the international stage to suggest he can replicate that form. He ranked third for crossed balls within the Austrian ranks in qualifying and topped their charts for tackles won and interceptions.

Zlato Junozovic, Austria – $7400
While Fuchs is a supply line from the left, Junozovic is Austria’s chief architect from the number ten role. Crucially, he’s also a dead-ball specialist which will see him hog corners and free-kicks. The main source of crossed balls and fouls won in qualifying, the Werder Bremen man also mustered 27 goal attempts and has maintained that form in the friendly matches since, claiming two goals and an assist.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Iceland – $7600
While Iceland may struggle to silence Ronaldo, in Sigurdsson they have their own potential match winner, capable over hovering up a big DraftKings tally. Sigurdsson’s club form for Swansea City saw him involved in 41% of their goals and that influence is mirrored for his national side having notched six goals in qualifying. The playmaker will claim set-pieces and is the top provider of crosses in the Iceland ranks, whilst also contributing their most potent goal threat.

Ari Skulason, Iceland – $3800
Converted from a midfield role to left-back by his country, the fiery Skulason offers a willing attacking outlet down the flank which could harvest strong DraftKings returns. He started all ten qualifiers, registering three assists and ranking second behind Sigurdsson for crossed balls.

Balazs Dzsudzsak, Hungary – $6900
Hungary’s potential of making an impression in the tournament rely on the form and productivity of Dzsudzsak. The Bursaspor winger contributed some outstanding numbers in qualifying that make him the go-to option for our squads. He supplied more crossed balls than any other player, creating 25 goalscoring opportunities for team-mates and amassed 39 efforts on goal. Dzsudzsak has maintained that supply line in Hungary’s pre-tournament warm-ups, although it remains to be seen if he can produce on the big stage.

DraftKings contests for Tuesday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $8k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I subbed Darmian in and he got benched after 58 mins...

Can i now transfer him out again? And would you recommend that for Renato Sanchez? Cheers 🙂

What are people's thoughts regarding the wildcard? Are people using it before md 2 or md 3? I currently don't have any Belgium or Italy, and although Belgium didn't look clinical last night, I think the favourable games for both teams left in the group stages is enough to get some in.

So should I wildcard before md 2 to get some of their players in, or wait?

I think before md3 would probably be better as a lot of teams will rotate in the last game

I see, I will save till then and look to get Bonucci in my team, or Giaccherini.

      2. Ruth_NZ

        10 years, 3 days ago

Will they? Why would that be?

The 4 best 3rd place teams qualify. That means very few, if any teams will be already knocked out by MD3. And the winners of Groups A, B, C, D get to play a 3rd placed team in the R16. So first place is very much worth playing for in those groups.

Only in Group F might you get a team that has already qualified and where 1st or 2nd place doesn't matter, they will be playing the runner-up of another group either way.

I therefore think there will be less rotation than many imagine.

I am in it for the price rises rather than rotation worries. Also , I fear Giroud will get a second YC next game against Albania and get suspended for the last Gameday. 😕

I planned on a wildcard before MD3 originally. But I am now looking at maybe holding off till the QF round. That will allow me to build a team specifically for the R16.

I have a lot of players with poor fixtures in GW 3 (cos I planned to WC in GW 3) , so I am 90% set on a GW 3 WC. The R16 strategy might work out for you nicely but not for me I am afraid. 🙂

Don't see any sense in using it for MD3 A lot of teams will be resting their key players there, and you get unlimited transfers between that and knockouts anyway. Has to be used now or just before QFs imo

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member
        • 11 Years

But doesn't the resting of key players mean that the wildcard could be used to remove some of them for MD3, and bring them back in with unlimited transfers? I thought the same as you, using unlimited transfers to MD's in a row seems odd, but rotation for MD3 is now on my mind. Don't want to get too many blanks.

Use it before MD3, get in all payers that have doen well so far (casual style) and then their price will go up. Otherwise you could be short of money for the team you want.

Oh, didn't notice you had already posted this. Great business for them.

I think McCarthy is an utter waster. Rare that I do, but fully support Eamo here.

What has happened to C. Chambers? It's been 2 years now since Arsenal had paid around 20m for him...

Personally think that move comes to early for him.

Maybe it turned out he wasn't ready for the big stage? Doesn't mean he couldn't be ready next season at some point. He's still very young. Many were ready to give up on Coquelin, too.

So, West Ham signed Feghouli for free. Looking good for them.

        Better this way... 😀

        Rui Patricio/Kozacik

        Smalling / Glik / Rodrigues / Juanfran / Dragovic

Perisic / Fabregas / Ozil / Payet / Joao Mario

        Giroud / Muller / Milik

for that 1 Ft... who OUT and who IN... ?

Read on some Croatians web news that he is fine... just some spasm in lower leg... Corluka and Brozovic also fine...

Nice to hear that. Have him to in my team.

Unlucky not to get more than 3 points.

Sadly I'm forced to do Srna out. (Not sad for me but him).

I've read he has left for the funeral, which is on Monday. While Croatia plays on Friday.

    Captain Alaba or Dragovic?

Seriously have no idea, having never seen either of them play!
