Wednesday signals the start of the second round of Euro 16 group matches and, for DraftKings managers, that could well herald a switch in emphasis to a bigger squad spend in attacking areas.

There’s no question that some nations are already put in a “must-win” scenario as a result of setbacks in their opening matches.

Romania were unfortunate to fall victim of Dimitri Payet’s brilliance in Friday’s tournament opener and will now be forced to go on the attack against Switzerland. The Swiss earned three points but failed to impress against 10-man Albania and, while they’ll be content to earn a point, they will know that their defence will come under severe pressure from the determined and talented Romanians.

Equally, over in Group B, Slovakia will need to prioritise attack against Russia following their late defeat to Wales. The Russians rode their luck against England and will likely attempt to hold out against Slovakia who will surely go all out for a victory.

As for France, with three points in the bank, they could now cut loose against an Albanian side who will be forced onto the front foot by their unfortunate defeat to the Swiss. Albania earned a shock 1-0 win the last time the two nations met in 2015; that will ensure that there’s little room for complacency in Didier Deschamp’s ranks.

These factors should result in a swing towards more attacking football which, for DraftKings managers, will mean putting greater emphasis on match winners in those sides with the greatest motivation to score goals.

We’ve selected five targets that we’re expecting to shine, providing a solid spine to any eight-man DraftKings squad set up for Wednesday’s contests.

Marek Hamsik – Slovakia, – $8800
The Napoli midfielder waltzed through a Welsh defence to strike an opening blow in Saturday’s clash, only to be denied by a last ditch block from Ben Davies. Hamsik’s attacking threat was largely nullified from that point on but he still fetched decent returns via five tackles won. With his nation seeking a vital victory, the scene is set for Hamsik to lead the charge after topping the Slovakian ranks for shots and notching five goals in qualifying.

Dimitri Payet – France, – $10300
Payet’s performance on Friday elevated him to a new status on the international stage, ensuring that few DraftKings managers can afford to ignore him from this point on. Quite simply, his game is designed to fetch strong base returns due to his seemingly relentless delivery of crossed balls from both open play and set-pieces. Payet created eight chances for team-mates via 12 crosses whilst scoring that early contender for goal of the tournament; Albania seem unlikely to have an answer to his flourishing talents.

Patrice Evra – France, – $5000
While Albania posed an attacking threat against the Swiss, their record in qualifying, with just seven goals scored, would suggest that they will struggle to make an impression on the French rearguard. Evra was at fault for Romania’s goal on Friday and the former skipper will be looking to atone for his error. He played far further up the pitch than Bacary Sagna on the right and provided three crosses with two tackles won. With Payet possibly deployed on the left but drawn inside, Evra’s frequent raids on the overlap could be a feature of Wednesday’s clash.

Nicolae Stanciu – Romania, – $5100
Stanciu’s delivery from dead-balls was a key weapon in Romania’ armoury against a hesitant French defence. The 23-year-old crafted three opportunities for team-mates via four crossed balls and it was his purposeful run that drew the foul from Evra for Bogdan Stancu’s converted spot-kick. Stanciu’s contribution to the Romanian effort looks likely to be key against the Swiss.

Christian Sapunaru – Romania, – $3900
Another player to emerge from Friday’s French reverse with great credit, the experienced full-back was a willing outlet down the right flank. Sapunaru saw plenty of the ball going forward, receiving more passes in the attacking third than any of his team-mates. It translated to three crosses, whilst his defensive efforts earned an interception and two tackles won. We’re expecting Sapunaru’s forays down the right to feature heavily in Romania’s bid to overhaul the Swiss backline.

DraftKings contests for Wednesday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $9k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Im thinking its worth just hanging in there for 1 week without taking a hit. You would need quite a lot to go in your favour for it to be worth it. You would want your original guy to blank, and your new guy to score/CS just to break even.

Wouldn't mind fitting in Kroos somewhere, thoughts?

    Tatarasanu (Pyatov)
    Bonucci Juanfran Rami Strinic (Guerreiro)
    Payet Perisic Stanciu (KDB Alaba)
    Muller Girod Yarmolenko

    Rui Patricio

    Howedes / Dier / Juanfran

    Alaba / KDB / Perisic / Payet

    Kane / Muller / Giroud

    Kosacik Rami, Denayer, Dzemali.

Denayer unlikely, KDB poss injured and didn't see much of ball anyway, Alaba just don't really fancy vs Portugal too much...so what to do?

    A - KDB / Denayer > Konoplyanka / Alba (or Pique/Ramos)?

    B - Alaba / Denayer > Giaccherini / Stanciu.

    C - Alaba / Denayer > Strinic / Candreva.

    D - Denayer > Strinic

    E - Stick!!

Any thoughts much appreciated...thanks in advance 😉

what's your whole team looking like? I was tempted by a hit as I got a bit greedy (don't have any injuries or anything) but with no bonus points it's a lot harder to make up..for example, I'm currently rank 40.2k but only 27 points back from #1

Denayer is a waste though. I feel like this is hit that could help me in the long term.

this isn't FPL though, there is no long-term. when are you thinking about WCing? don't forget you get unlimited transfers before the RO16

I think I'd be wildcarding after GW 2 or R16.

And isn't there some sort of BS "we change player price based on performance" nonsense? Fearing Giaccherini rising by a lot.

Oh okay. So what do you think is a good WC plan? Post GW 2? By then we can figure out who's rising...

that's what I'm doing..also have a good idea about who will be eliminated and who won't be.

also if you check the tip on the next page, you can use the above info to fill your team (as necessary) with some extra 4.0m players that are eliminated and keep them in to spread the money out easier

Also I'm cruising ahead of my league by 4 pts 😉 and I'm only on 50. So I can be risky. Other guys are playing poorly.

save your WC for next round and pray KDB plays, I'm doing somethere similar
if Junu recovers it's a bonus but if not he can sit on the bench for one round.

Round 1 was torture. Started with Giroud (C), twisted, and watched Hamsik, Lewandowski, de Bruyne and Alaba all fail me. What do I do?
I feel like outside of de Bruyne, there's no reason to panic with this core group.

    Patricio, Kozacik

    Juanfran, Rami, Djourou, Strinic, Guerreiro

KdB, Hamsik, Perisic, Alaba, Renato Sanches

    Lew, Muller, Giroud

    A) KdB->Payet
    B) KdB->Payet, Sanches->Alli -4
    C) KdB->Payet, Sanches-> Dzsudzak -4 (gives me 3 Day 4 replacement options - Alaba, Guerreiro, Dzsudzak)
    D) WC
    E) Something else?

I"m personally thinking it's down to A and C. Cheers

I feel the same way. However, there is something to be said about a -4 when you are supplying yourself an extra option in place of someone who won't play at all.

yeah, but you will get atleast 2 points from your lowest scoring player unless you're unlucky on the last day, so it's still a -4

Right, but keeping a non-playing Sanches leaves me with one less option to replace a low score where Dzsudzak could potentially turn a profit. -4 is -4, don't get me wrong, but there is value in having an additional option.

I'm probably keeping KDB myself but since you don't have Payet: A
