Wednesday signals the start of the second round of Euro 16 group matches and, for DraftKings managers, that could well herald a switch in emphasis to a bigger squad spend in attacking areas.

There’s no question that some nations are already put in a “must-win” scenario as a result of setbacks in their opening matches.

Romania were unfortunate to fall victim of Dimitri Payet’s brilliance in Friday’s tournament opener and will now be forced to go on the attack against Switzerland. The Swiss earned three points but failed to impress against 10-man Albania and, while they’ll be content to earn a point, they will know that their defence will come under severe pressure from the determined and talented Romanians.

Equally, over in Group B, Slovakia will need to prioritise attack against Russia following their late defeat to Wales. The Russians rode their luck against England and will likely attempt to hold out against Slovakia who will surely go all out for a victory.

As for France, with three points in the bank, they could now cut loose against an Albanian side who will be forced onto the front foot by their unfortunate defeat to the Swiss. Albania earned a shock 1-0 win the last time the two nations met in 2015; that will ensure that there’s little room for complacency in Didier Deschamp’s ranks.

These factors should result in a swing towards more attacking football which, for DraftKings managers, will mean putting greater emphasis on match winners in those sides with the greatest motivation to score goals.

We’ve selected five targets that we’re expecting to shine, providing a solid spine to any eight-man DraftKings squad set up for Wednesday’s contests.

Marek Hamsik – Slovakia, – $8800
The Napoli midfielder waltzed through a Welsh defence to strike an opening blow in Saturday’s clash, only to be denied by a last ditch block from Ben Davies. Hamsik’s attacking threat was largely nullified from that point on but he still fetched decent returns via five tackles won. With his nation seeking a vital victory, the scene is set for Hamsik to lead the charge after topping the Slovakian ranks for shots and notching five goals in qualifying.

Dimitri Payet – France, – $10300
Payet’s performance on Friday elevated him to a new status on the international stage, ensuring that few DraftKings managers can afford to ignore him from this point on. Quite simply, his game is designed to fetch strong base returns due to his seemingly relentless delivery of crossed balls from both open play and set-pieces. Payet created eight chances for team-mates via 12 crosses whilst scoring that early contender for goal of the tournament; Albania seem unlikely to have an answer to his flourishing talents.

Patrice Evra – France, – $5000
While Albania posed an attacking threat against the Swiss, their record in qualifying, with just seven goals scored, would suggest that they will struggle to make an impression on the French rearguard. Evra was at fault for Romania’s goal on Friday and the former skipper will be looking to atone for his error. He played far further up the pitch than Bacary Sagna on the right and provided three crosses with two tackles won. With Payet possibly deployed on the left but drawn inside, Evra’s frequent raids on the overlap could be a feature of Wednesday’s clash.

Nicolae Stanciu – Romania, – $5100
Stanciu’s delivery from dead-balls was a key weapon in Romania’ armoury against a hesitant French defence. The 23-year-old crafted three opportunities for team-mates via four crossed balls and it was his purposeful run that drew the foul from Evra for Bogdan Stancu’s converted spot-kick. Stanciu’s contribution to the Romanian effort looks likely to be key against the Swiss.

Christian Sapunaru – Romania, – $3900
Another player to emerge from Friday’s French reverse with great credit, the experienced full-back was a willing outlet down the right flank. Sapunaru saw plenty of the ball going forward, receiving more passes in the attacking third than any of his team-mates. It translated to three crosses, whilst his defensive efforts earned an interception and two tackles won. We’re expecting Sapunaru’s forays down the right to feature heavily in Romania’s bid to overhaul the Swiss backline.

DraftKings contests for Wednesday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $9k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

For everyone else who just had a little panic when they saw that KDB was flagged, I think it's nonsense.

Kristof Terreur, a sports journalist who covers Belgium and Belgian players in excruciating detail, says he isn't injured. I trust him.

“If I had an explanation I'd give you one. Is the kid tired after a busy season? Yes, perhaps. He's been training not quite at full pelt.

Thanks, Bemba. Is that Wilmots saying that?

Five days between their games, he surely can't be rested when they need a win to stay in the game.

I'm from Belgium and there was some talk about it in the news. He ran 12 km, he was pretty tired and he felt something in his hamstrings it was I believe, Wilmots gave him a couple of days off and he should be fine before the next game.

In case you want to know about Hazard as well. He had a kick on his knee and was suffering from the same injury as he had this year during his time at Chelsea. He was also given some days off but not sure if he will be fit by next game.

      Spurs too I like:

      Everton (a), Palace (h), Liverpool (h), Stoke (a), Sunderland (h)

Potentially tricky away games but should be goals in those 3 home matches.

Liverpool has the best fixtures.. even if not FPL-wise.
They plays all their rivals in the 1st month, where they can still snatch some points before the teams hits form.
Then they can just ride the low tide until december. 🙂

Currenly having the following defensive lineup:

    Patricio - Kocazic
    Dier - Lichtsteiner - Juanfran - Pepe - Rami

Which of the following transfers would you prefer?

    A) Lichtsteiner -> Giaccherini (I'm not seeing Switzerland keep a clean sheer vs Romania and France. Italy was convincing)
    B) Pepe -> Giaccherini (Not feeling comfortable with 2 Portugalians on the last round vs. Austria. But with this transfer I would have only only one player in the final gameday)
    C) Pepe -> Vertonghen (Would still have 2 players from the final gameday, but not totally convinced with Belgium)

        Slovakian yes: Hamsik and Kozacik

Sorry to ask, but why does that matter?

Because in case any of their players have been dropped/injured etc

Hits are a bad idea in this type of game. No bonuses and low scoring games mean points are much harder to come around.

I'd only do it if you couldn't field XI out, or a ridiculously favourable big player as captain

I know but let's say Junuzovic is out for the rest of the tournament for instance. Then Götze would have to perform for the remaining 2 games. Don't you think chances are pretty big that one of either Payet/ Kroos and Konoplyanka will outscore Götze by 4 points over the next 2 games?

So with that City fixtures, everyone will have Kun (C) at the start, and even worst, casuals (most give up after 3 GWs) will always have Kun (C) from the start to the end of season.

Given that we spend hours on setting up our teams, while the casuals give up so early, why do you care about them? 😀

Just imagine when you go for a differential captain sometime, but Kun keeps scoring well in the weeks that City have tough fixtures, you will go more behind them

    Morning All,

Tough start to the Euros but somehow how lucky with 2 defenders both scoring..

Do I need to make any changes to this team?

    Rui Patrico, Kozacik
    Giaccherini, Juanfran, Schar, Denayer, Dragovic
    Perisic, Sigurdsson, Payet, Mak, Junuzovic
    Muller, Morata, Griezmann

    Obviously Junuzovic is injured.

Anyone else worth bringing in? Or can I stick?

My plan was maybe brong is Bozovoc bit i already have Perisic.

    Any suggestions appreciated!

Thought about it but I don't think I'd actually change more than 4 or 5 players.

But actually, the main problem is that we don't know very much about the strikers yet. As a group they've been very quiet for this first round but I don't expect that to continue. I think if we compare the striker template now to the striker template after this round of games, the early WCers will be full of regret.

Yup. If we knew more about the strikers and some had proven their worth, I'd have probably jumped early. As it is, I'll take a hit and sit.

Change the captain first. Then confirm and try the subs again.

    Ozil, Perisic, De Bruyne, Payet
    Muller, Lewandowski, Giroud

    Already did Alaba to Payet

    Whats my second transfer?

You may as well get Inniesta for less. Both did roughly the same job at either side of the 18 yard box.
