England’s vital lunchtime meeting with Wales provides the highlight on Thursday’s menu as DraftKings managers prepare squads for another round of contests.

With Wales claiming three points with victory against Slovakia, England must push for a win having suffered frustration at the hands of Russia on Saturday. Beautifully poised, the clash presents a narrative that is likely to see Roy Hodgson’s side press, whilst battling to contain the threat of Gareth Bale on the break.

Meanwhile, over in Group C, Northern Ireland are left fighting for survival having suffered a first defeat to Poland. They will face a “six-pointer” against Ukraine who are also looking to get their first point on the board after their 2-0 reverse against Germany. Goals surely have to be on the agenda in Lyon, with both sides forced to seek the victory.

There are no such issues for Germany, who will now take on Poland in a two-way battle for Group C dominance. This one looks more difficult to predict but, given the wealth of attacking talent on show, there could yet be fireworks.

We’ve assessed all three fixtures and analysed past performances to come up with a recommended cast of assets for your DraftKings contests.

Kyle Walker – England, – $4800
The Spurs full-back impressed against the Russian’s, working effectively in tandem with the lively Adam Lallana. Walker looked more ambitious than Danny Rose on the opposite flank, drawing three fouls, winning two tackles and providing a single cross. We’d expect the same pattern to emerge against the Welsh, with improved output from Walker.

Ben Davies – Wales, – $3600
Chris Coleman seems likely to set his side up to soak up pressure and break on England. Should that be the case, Ben Davies is likely to be a key man in the Welsh three-man backline. Playing on the left of three centre-backs, Davies built on some impressive numbers during qualifying with a stand-out performance against Slovakia. He pulled off a vital goal line clearance from Marek Hamsik’s effort, made six interceptions and won two tackles. Davies will likely be kept busy again in Thursday’s encounter and could present a viable low-price enabler in the utility slot.

Vyacheslav Shevchuk – Ukraine, – $3900
The veteran campaigner pushed high up the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Germany, despite Ukraine spending much of that match on the back foot. The 37-year-old was far more attacking from left-back than his team-mate Artem Fedetskiy on the right, producing two crossed balls and an attempt on goal. Given that Northern Ireland produced just three efforts on goal in their opener, Shevchuk could prove a canny DraftKings investment.

Andriy Yarmolenko – Ukraine, – $8100
We tipped Yevhen Konoplyanka in Ukraine’s opener and he duly delivered, producing 14 crosses – more than any other player in the first round of matches. In contrast, Yarmolenko was largely silenced by the Germans but, with Ukraine seeking a vital three points, we’re backing the Dynamo Kiev forward to take his turn to come to the fore. His pace and power was involved in 50% of Ukraine’s goals in qualifying, notching on six occasions.

Oliver Norwood – Northern Ireland, – $4600
Norwood played more minutes in qualifying than any other team-mate and topped their ranks for crossed balls and chances created. While he was restricted in attacking terms in the defeat to Poland, Norwood earned three fouls, won five of ten tackles made and claimed two interceptions. Michael O’Neill’s team are forced to attack against Ukraine and will look to Norwood to produce an all-action display that should result in strong returns for his DraftKings owners.

Arkadiusz Milik – Poland, – $8700
With attentions drawn to the considerable threat of Robert Lewandowski, it was Milik who emerged as match winner against Northern Ireland. The Ajax striker not only delivered the telling strike, he also produced some hugely impressive numbers that included five attempts on goal and seven crossed balls – including four corner kicks, having provided just three throughout qualifying. Milik takes form into the clash with Germany and is again a cheaper alternative to his illustrious strike partner.

Thomas Muller – Germany, – $10,200
The Bayern Munich man cut a peripheral figure against Ukraine, despite Germany’s dominance. Muller mustered just a single effort on goal and provided two crosses but he’ll be expected to improve on that given his contribution in qualifying. With nine goals in as many starts, Muller was involved in 58% of Germany’s goals which would suggest that Poland may now be on the receiving end as Germany look to claim the Group C top spot.

DraftKings contests for Thursday’s matches are now available, including a $3 entry “Striker” with a $10k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here.

Lallana look like starting tomorrow? I had very little time to change my team today, so my only transfer was Moutinho > Lallana. I had like 5 minutes in a break at work. Instant regret.
Rami and Payet(C) saved my day!

So, has anyone got any early ideas who you want in your FPL team? For me:

    WBA goalies
Premium defenders from United and Chelsea, with a WHU and Saint to rotate and a cheapie from Boro.
Hazard and Payet the only 2 cert mids, maybe Eriksen.
Aguero for cert, maybe Gray and/or Fischer.

You'll be struggling to afford that pal. You just named 2 expensive defenders, 2 mid priced defenders, a premium striker and three premium midfielders

      1. Jay_
        10 years, 1 month ago

        Foster (5) Myhill (4.5)
        Azpi (6.5) Smalling (6.5) Reid (5) Bertrand (5) Ayala (4.5)
        Hazard (9.5) Eriksen (9) Payet (9.5) 6.0 4.5
        Aguero (13) Gray (6) Fischer (5.5)

        * If Fischer is a mid, he swaps with Firmino and a mid price striker replaces Firmino.

          Few thoughts
If you're paying 9.5, might as well get a sub gk
I'm not sure Azpi will be fitting into Contes system.
Smalling is an absolute rip off
          Bertrand will probably be 5.5
          Hazard 10.0, Payet 10.0
Forward line is weak and involves too much risk.

            - Agreed, £5m plus fodder, or 2 x £4.5m.
            - Too early to say
            - Get Bailly for £5.5m(hopefully).
            - Agreed
            - Maybe, wouldn't pay £10m for Payet, personally. The bubble will burst.
            - Yep, one of Sturridge, MUN, Costa, Kane, Lukaku probably needed.

I'll be looking for a 4.5, 4.0. Crystal Palace might be a good place to find that.
Rahman could be gold at lwb
Agree about Payet, Lanzini instead? Or Feghouli?
Hopefully West Ham sign a nice striker

I see a comment from someone the other day that made sense, given that FPL is around 3.6m players. Just multiply your rank x3 and that will give you your relative rank 🙂 So 60k so early is pretty decent.

Subbing in Kane and Muller..Stanciu is an easy out, was a no-show..with Giaccherini, Juanfran, Guerreiro and Perisic all certainly expected to play, I'm wondering if I should sub out Strinic (who is only RUMORED to be missing out) or if I should sub out Giroud.

While 2 points isn't a hell of a lot, generally speaking, it seems to be in this game and I'd hate to miss out by my own hand.

Czech scored 19 in qualifying, and so given his stats v Turkey I doubt he'd an assist so I might be looking at a Strinic 2 even if he did play, pushing me towards keeping Gi-roo.

    Thoughts?

Hmmm..doesn't seem like subs with 0 minutes (even if their team has already played) are permanent until after final matchday is complete.

If I sub Kane in for Strinic, since neither have played yet, looks like I can sub Strinic back in later for a player who has played.

For example, I've already subbed Muller in for Stanciu and confirmed but it appears I can currently sub Stanciu back in for Strinic.

basically what I'm getting as is that my little oversight above, isn't actually one!

I can sub Strinic out today and then if someone screws up tomorrow (like an own goal or red card or doesn't play) then I can put Strinic back in

        happy days 😀

payet's been amazing 'n all, but albania and romania probably wouldn't have got into any past euros tournament, and even aside from that it seems kind of a weird record. i mean, fellaini's already on 7 after one game, almost halfway there. iniesta, silva, kroos and gomes are on 5 after 1. i wouldn't be surprised if multiple guys had broken this record by the end of the group stages, let alone the whole tournament.

Any idea why it was taken away? Looked a clear assist to me. I want my 3 points!

Whatever source they are using doesn't have an assist. Some sites have the assist so it's a bit strange. Having a defender nearby probably confused things.

Thing is though, the assist was given at first, disappeared after 10 minutes or so. I've not read any dispute anywhere on who the assist should be credited to. Most odd.

Guys it seems that the scores are very close from each other, so the fact that any of your players scores/assists will help you move up the rankings pretty quick! Moved from just under 15k to #28 today.. Good days - not sure what will happen tomorrow though

Kosclenly captain was a good punt, three blanking Swiss less so - my (largely) decent subs will have a bit of work to do now

Changed the captain every game during the last round and ended up captaining the Austrian keeper for two points - it was fun for a while but I think I will stick with Kosclenly this time - to much stress lol
