All four sides in Group B have a chance of joining France and Switzerland in the knockout stages in this evening’s pair of fixtures.

Top of the table England still require a victory to be sure of going through as group winners – a draw against Slovakia, allied with a triumph for Wales over Russia, would see Roy Hodgson’s men slip into second spot and face the Group F runners-up.

Such a scenario doesn’t suit the Slovaks either, as it would leave them scrambling for a slot as one of the best third-placed sides and facing a group winner in the final 16.

Given the importance of this evening’s match, then, it’s somewhat surprising that the Three Lions manager has made six alterations to the side that narrowly defeated Wales last time out.

Russia will be looking for England to do them a favour tonight. A win for both teams would see Leonid Slutsky’s side finish in second spot, though it’s fair to say they’ve been somewhat fortuitous to score twice from a mere four attempts on target.

Wales, meanwhile, will be targeting dead-ball situations against Russia’s ageing backline, with Chris Coleman’s troops already netting twice from set-pieces in their opening pair of fixtures.

Bale (c) but I think I'll twist. Milik tomorrow and KDB/CR7 on the last day. Fancy one of them to bag more than 6 points.

Hello everyone! My exams finished this morning so I am free for three months! Will be a lot more active again and will be trying and get some community articles written and the New Player Points Per Game Spreadsheets on the go again. Feels good to be free of exam stress!

That game was painful, Wilshere and Henderson absolutely poor. Rooney is bar far the side's most important player and should be starting. Maybe biased but feel like Barkley deserves a run out. Slovakia just filled their area which made it impossible, think England will be a lot more threatening against the better sides.

Agree with you about the game. Not impressed by Wilshere; Henderson got better as the game went on. Vardy needs space to run into; wrong game to start him, perhaps, but he'll be a threat against anyone who actually wants to attack. Never seen England less likely to concede, though.

      Well done Wales!

exactly this. I actually am positive about the knockouts, the tougher the game the better England will play.

If it ain't broke don't fix it Woy you plonker.
At least Woy should now realise his squad players are garbage.
Most of us said it before kick off , why can't he see it ?
Henderson & Wilshire are too average for words.

Another consistent performance by England - consistently awful. Failing to win an appallingly poor group is unacceptable - we are going to get annihilated as soon as we meet anyone half decent.

    Defenders/GK - Kozacik (8pts), Rami (5pts), Schar (6pts), Dier (6pts)
    Attackers - Payet (1pt), Alli (1pt), Sturridge (2pts)

Alli, Sturridge and Payet were inches away from a goal each though!

As a complete neutral I agree and would point out that this isn't the first tournament that England have been in this position. Ambition and euphoric expectation always seem to outweigh ability or end in underperformance. That said, this group of players are more than capable of going further in the tournament. I wouldn't let passionate support influence my fantasy team though as with 16 teams left, options are too numerous in every area and possibly I'd only consider Kane or Sturridge here on but to be honest, that's unlikely with only 3 forward slots.

my point is everyone on here, and the press no doubt, will be slating England instead of giving Slovakia credit where credit is due. England created a lot of chances but Slovakia defended very very well.

Yeah, I personally think that after the bright start 1990 was an awful tournament altogether.

Had to pinch my memory to remember Algeria match at all, then I recalled Rooney wooed after he failed to run on the pitch, and the one time he slipped on the ball. 😆 It was hilarious! And I mostly liked Algeria's passing and pressing.

                      But yeah, an awful match.

England first half were good and a little unlucky. Second half started to look a bit desperate and make some bad decisions. Slovakia defended immensely, but had absolutely zero ambition.

I don't rate Milik at all. At best he will match Bale so the risk is not worth it. Ronaldo is a good shout but as he plays last there is a slight risk. I'd stick if I were you. I will probably do the same. Disappointed Bale didn't get more in a big win like this that I expected.

Vardy is a better impact sub than Sturridge.

I think Sturridge Kane up front, or actually play them in their positions, he had Sturridge out too wide today. If he insists on that then play Sturridge Kane Vardy as a three up top and have Sturridge/Vardy cutting inside

    A) Perisic

People slating the England line-up today yet last week everyone was calling for Sturridge/Vardy to play.

Not defending Woy, I hate the guy and think he is a poor manager, but the England team have been over-hyped, they should have won that group still, but it seems there is no winning.

    He starts Rooney, people moan.

He drops Kane, people want him back again.

He starts Vardy, he should be dropped....

    on and on

there is also way too much hype around this England team, but that happens every major tournament,

in fairness, they have a better team than Wales on paper, but Wales play much better football and have a better sum of their parts.

Woy has failed to nail the tactics and play his players to their strengths, it doesn't matter who he picks if he plays them out of position or has a poor tactical mind, England will always fail to deliver with Woy in charge.

What there is, among seasoned followers, isn't hype - forget the media - but the evidence of a much better England team than in previous tournaments. I don't think there's much chance of them winning the thing, but it's heartening to see that they're not as woeful as they were in 2014 and 2010.

they are a young team with potential. Woy is not the man to guide them to success and play them to their strengths, that's the problem.

my point is it doesn't matter who plays, the tactics are important.

on paper the team you have there is prob England's best 11. I agree, maybe Walker over Clyne but if Woy rolled out that team he needs to set it up right.

Kozacik on my bench. 🙁 Could I have put him in for Patricio before the match and if he didn't do well, put Patricio back in?

    Anyone? Keep Dier (c), or:

    3rd day:

    Muller / Howedes / Milik / Perisic / Juan Fran /

    4th day:

    Siggy / Alaba / KDB

Same position here. I think I'm probably sticking.

    Captained Neil Taylor :sun-bloody-glasses:

(Sous-entendu: he was my default choice so give me no credit)

    Who to captain tomorrow?
Juanfran, Gomez, Hector, Kroos, Perisic, Pyatov, Yarmolenko
Have Ronaldo the last day if it matters...

milik or muller captain? I've had a poor 3rd matchday so far and this could be where the wheels come off.

milik or muller captain? I've had a poor 3rd matchday so far and this could either be where the wheels come off or I get back into it.
