The Euro 2016 group stages now come to their conclusion this evening as Group E treats us to two final matches before the knockout Round of 16 gets underway on Saturday.

Group E winners Italy already know their fate.

Having won their first couple of fixtures, The Azzurri will battle Spain for a place in the last eight after the defending champions threw away a one-goal lead against Croatia last night.

With five regulars just one caution shy of a ban, there’s no surprise that Antonio Conte has made numerous alterations to his XI for the clash against the Republic of Ireland.

Martin O’Neill’s men are hoping to upset the odds and register a shock win to seal a place in the next stage, though they are clearly up against it here – the Italians have racked up back-to-back shut-outs and allowed their opponents just six shots inside the box, whilst Ireland have managed a mere four attempts on target.

Belgium and Sweden square up in the other fixture.

Marc Wilmots’ men bounced back from their opening loss to Italy with a resounding 3-0 win over Ireland and need only a draw to seal second place. Such a scenario would see them face the winners of Group F, Hungary, in the next round.

Given that the Swedes have yet to register a single attempt on target, The Red Devils look strong favourites to clinch a spot in the knockouts and send Zlatan Ibrahimovic and co. home early.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Thoughts on this knockout squad:

    Neuer - Hennessey
    Hector - Rami - Dier - Vertonghen - Jedrzejczyk
KDB - Perisic - Ramsey - Payet - Andre Gomes
    Muller - Bale - Giroud

    Opinions appreciated!

Played more centrally. Behind Gomez. And I guess they'll play the same formation again. Ronaldo has delivered. It's time for Muller now.

Walker has been one of our best players (if not the best) player so far, and he was rotated last game. Having said that, I imagine he'll be pretty secure going forwards.

    Perisic and McGovern

    or

    Hart and Alli.

Neuer is my main keeper selection.

I know it looks obvious on paper. but a midfield of Perisic, Kroos, Ramsey, Payet & De Bruyne looks sexy.

Yeah, Diaz is just as crucial though. Neither Hernandez nor Silva excel in defense, & Hernandez especially as he's very attack minded. No idea how many decent attacks we'll build without both our key creators missing.

I would defo have something to consider every MD. a- for the enjoyment b- to keep your points scoring. Too much risk missing a day even ifs someone you think will get binned in the next round. Maybe use that thought as a way of saving money for a better player elsewhere. aka goalkeeper. Im going Neuer and McGovern but I have Bale so expecting goals, but you never know eventually Neuer will take the reigns.

So yeah, have a player each day.

      1. WE GO FOR IT
        • 10 Years

Yeah. I guess I'll make way for Dier and Hart. Didn't wanna go for Spain/Italy as one of them will go out. Don't wanna end up with a wrong player and waste a transfer to remove him in the quarters. But I guess that's a risk with the players I already have as well. Switzerland and Portugal could easily defeat Poland and Croatia and spoil my plan. Back to the drawing board.

Can't help but think that we are overestimating how good Wales actually are. They've played a couple of poor sides, who have gifted them goals. Against England they were very much second best and fluked a goal from nothing.

Personally, I can't see any value in going with both Ramsey and Bale. I think it has to be one or the other. Northern Ireland have a great chance of beating them having qualified from a much tougher group.

    1. ⭐ Bemba_Da ⭐

I think wales will sneak it as n ireland struggle going forward

republic on the other hand, can see them beating france who are absolutely shocking defensively and are heavily dependant on payet. If payet has an off day right now they are in massive trouble.

rami and kosc partnership is weak, rami is an accident waiting to happen. Evra is a big weakness, he has been exposed many times by albania and romania.

Payet has been the genius so far, look at when he came on v swiss he just totally change the pace/tempo of the game whilst before they just struggled so much

Most have a defender/ goalkeeper which can be swapped out with two remianing days. Hennessey with Neuer back up looks a great combo.

Bale also can't be overlooked no need to explain why. I do agree that a double up with Ramsey maybe a bit too much but not a lot in that range and I guess those are hoping for Ramsey to assist Bale
