The knockout action picks up pace today as DraftKings managers are treated to a trio of Sunday fixtures.

First up at two o’clock, hosts France take on Republic of Ireland for the right to meet England or Iceland in the quarter-finals. Didier Deschamps rested a number of regulars against Switzerland and looks poised to recall the likes of Dimitri Payet and Olivier Giroud after Les Bleus failed to find a way past Vladimir Petkovic’s side.

Having beaten Italy to advance through the group stages, Martin O’Neill’s outfit will be in buoyant mood as they prepare to face the tournament favourites.

World Champions Germany take on Slovakia in the evening kick-off. Although they’ve found the net on just three occasions, Joachim Low’s men registered more attempts inside the box than any side over the group stages and will be confident of breaking down a stubborn rearguard that held England to a goalless draw last time out.

Belgium go up against Hungary in the late encounter. Marc Wilmots’ men are building momentum on the back of two successive wins and are favourites to emerge from the top half of the draw to clinch a place in the final on July 10.

The Magyars, though, will be no pushovers and ended the group stages as joint-top scorers along with Wales, having found the net six times so far.

As always, we encourage you to scan the teamsheets before each fixture, adjusting your lineups in search of some last-minute bargains. However, here’s our essential picks to form the backbone of your eight-man squads.

Jonas Hector – Germany – $4900
The full-back offers Fantasy managers the most attacking route into a Germany defence that chalked up clean sheets in all three of their group fixtures. Whilst there are doubts over the right-back berth for Joachim Low’s side, Hector looks certain to start on the left and his raids down the flank have supplied 17 crosses so far – that’s second only to Toni Kroos for the World Champions and top amongst defenders taking part in Sunday’s action.

Dimitri Payet – France – $10,100
Arguably the player of the tournament so far, Payet bagged two goals and an assist in the first couple of fixtures before being afforded a second-half sub role against Switzerland in the final group fixture. Given that the France playmaker’s frequency of both crosses (7.4 minutes) and key passes (15.6 minutes) was quicker than any player over the group stages, his ability to unlock a stubborn Republic of Ireland rearguard will be key to the hosts’ prospects of making the quarter-finals.

Kevin de Bruyne – Belgium – $9700
Having played from start to finish in all three group matches, the Belgium midfielder produced more crosses (35) and created more scoring opportunities (18) than any player in the group stages. Given that De Bruyne’s ten attempts on goal over the first three fixtures was greater than any midfielder who progressed to the knockout stages, it’s fair to say he’s been unfortunate only to earn a single assist ahead of a clash with Hungary.

Balazs Dzudzsak – Hungary – $7200
A double in the 3-3 draw with Portugal ensured Hungary progressed as winners of Group F. Dzudzsak was joint-top for shots on target amongst midfielders across the group stages, whilst a total of 20 crosses is more than three times the number of any team-mate. If Bernd Storck’s side are to produce a shock and get the better of Belgium, Dzudzsak’s contribution in the final third will be vital.

Olivier Giroud – France – $8800
Rested for the final group fixture against Switzerland, the French frontman looks poised to return to Didier Deschamps’ starting XI for today’s encounter against Republic of Ireland. Despite missing that clash with the Swiss, Giroud has still produced more attempts inside the box than any compatriot and with Payet pulling the strings, he should be afforded further opportunities to improve upon his goal in the tournament opener.

Mario Gomez – Germany – $7700
Handed his first start of the tournament against Northern Ireland, the Germany striker netted the only goal of a narrow 1-0 win. With Thomas Muller yet to open his account, Gomez seems set to lead the line against Slovakia, with the Bayern Munich man poised to take up a role on the right once again. Priced at $7700 to Muller’s $9900, Gomez bettered his team-mate by four attempts on target to one against the Irish and could prove a canny acquisition for DraftKings managers.

Spots in DraftKings contests for Sunday’s matches are still available, including the $3 entry “Sweeper” with a $11k prize pot.

DraftKings is available only to those aged 18 or over. Be sure to take note of their Terms and Conditions here and play responsibly.

Stick with bale or twist for:

    A) Payet
    B) Giroud
    C) Muller
    D) Hector
    E) KDB

    A boring one:

Switch to Randolph or stick with Fabianski?

Double German defence but happy enough if they get a clean sheet without the worry about making one of them (C)

Think Belgium will put a few past Hungary, all down to who will score the most out of Hazard, De Bruyne and Lukaku (have all three)

Torn on whether to twist on Bale (c)
Got KDB, Payet, Ozil, Muller for today, would you change? And if so, who? I'm leaning towards KDB...

loads are in similar position. if it was 6 x 2 I would stick so its a tricky one.

How come is it likely that KDB scores -2, but not that he scores 10? You think KDB red card after less than 60 minutes played is likelier than KDB goal + assist in 60+ minutes?

        1. Camp No No

I said likely.. He could might as well bag 4 goals. But if we look at this tournament so far the likely points for attackers has been either:
A goal/assist and maybe CS for midfielder: 5-8p.

No points and maybe a YC and CS: 1-3p

And according to the odds it is more likely NOT to score if your not Ronaldo. I would rate it

          Lower outcome: 60% chance
          Higher outcome: 40%

Therefore, if you are leading a ML the downside is more than the upside of keeping 10p unless you have really strong candidates MD3.

I'm ahead 30p in my mini league with a nice prize-sum, so I'm sticking.

The point was that your "likely" downside being 1-2 points more than the points that scored the original captain. That is not 1-3 points but from -1 to -2 points.

So you're effectively saying that red card in less than 60 minutes is a likelier outcome from KDB than him playing 60+ and scoring goal+assist?

I've been thinking a lot about the Bale/Ronaldo(c) captaincy switch. You get two more bites of the cherry but statistically the goals have not been coming.

I think it boils down to how you play fantasy. If you're ahead in a work / home league with money riding on the outcome - as I have. Then I recon you play it conservatively and keep. If you're playing for fun / rank, or need to catch up then twist.

    Hope that helps!

An assist + CS from a midfielder or a CS from a defender beats Bale/Ronaldo's score. I'm leading my ML but still twisting.

I think that people are forgetting that he could have had 4 goals against a keeper who had the match of his life.
That;s because he was playing alongside a proper number 9 in Gomez.
If I twist from Bale then it will be to him, but it'd going to be a matter of luck rather than judgment.

Lukaku has the stats, the form and the fixture so he gets the (C) band for me

    http://members.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/my-stats-tables/view/14886/

Even compared to Hazard and De Bruyne he is miles ahead in terms of numbers. De Bruyne is the most likely to assist with set piece ability and chances created, but all (except 1) of his goal attempts come from outside the box (Coutinho eat your heart out).

Hazard's stats aren't all that different either 😕

I'm pretty high in the rankings, so given Payet's high ownership it seems Bale (c) ------> Payet (c) is the right move?

Embolo signs for Schalke. Smart kid, rejected big clubs for first team football.

He is overrated IMO. Good athlete, but didn't show much talent for football to be a world class player

He's not world class. Anyone suggesting a kid to be world class is off the heezy.

I don't think he'll ever be world class is what I tried to say, of course he can't be that at 19

Why can't he bat 19? Markus Rashford is world class and he's only 18

He plays for Man Utd and scored on this league and international debuts = world class

Well, he's 18, when he turns 19 he stops being world class and becomes just another Utd player on loan

Likely to be L.Sané replacement. Agree that he may have made the smart choice.

15 clear of my rivals, both had Bale (C), not sure if they'll stick.

Should I stick or twist on Bale? Would be switching to Muller or Payet. Dier only option for Monday if it goes wrong

IMO you should check right before the first game starts. If they stick, you should block them and stick too. 15p is a good spread, take no risk

15 Pts can be eroded easily. I was 30 ahead going into the last day of the groups, only to win my cash prize by a measly1 pt.

Decided to twist on bale. Worst scenario it's gonna cost me 4 Pts. Hazard for me. I'm overlooking payet as feel ireland will be tight and I expect Belgium to score more goals. And if he fails, I've got another chap on Monday.
