Dugout Discussion – Man United vs Southampton

The first of 10 Friday night kick-offs of the 2016/17 season gets underway as Man United play host to Southampton at 8pm.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic carries the armband hopes of many heading into Gameweek 2. Second only to Sergio Aguero in this week’s captain poll, another big display from the Swede this evening should continue the bandwagon that’s already earned him in excess of 45% ownership.

There’s also the small matter of Paul Pogba to consider. Having served a one-match ban last weekend, the Frenchman is poised for a second debut and has been named in the hosts’ first XI.

Having emerged victorious from Old Trafford in each of the last two seasons, the Saints will be hoping to take up the role of part poopers once again as Jose Mourinho prepares for his first home match in charge of the Red Devils.

Claude Puel’s side stuttered to a 1-1 home draw against Watford last time out, though produced more attempts on goal that any side in Gameweek 1.

Dusan Tadic created more chances than any other player in the opening round of fixtures, whilst Nathan Redmond’s 75,000 new owners will be looking for a repeat of last week’s goal and subsequent two-point haul against the Hornets.

more threatening than Tadic. more advanced. United didn't look like they would be broken down though

Him & Tadic looked dangerous when around United box. Would not get rid but can see the appeal of Redmond to fund Ibra...

Would rather have Lamela than Redmond. Redmond got into some decent positions but didn't play that well.

Would swapping Gray for Rondon tonight be a terrible idea?

Got 2 FT's at the moment and no pressing issues with my team apart from Gray potentially dropping. Nothing in the bank so if he falls then I'm stuck with him or Diomonde. Rondon has two good fixtures coming up whilst Grays aren't good. Other options like Carroll or Llorente have worse fixtures. Already have Ibra and Aguero so no need to crowbar them into my team. If one of my players did get injured this week I'd at least have another FT to get them out.

Any reason to hold off and risk Gray falling?

    Thanks for any advice.

Pondering same thing (rondon/negredo). Another option could be benteke @ 7.4 and downgrade a mid.

      1. Cyril Figgis
        10 years, 2 months ago

I'm happy with my mids for now. Also I'm not sure using up both FT's with 9 matches still to play this week is the best idea. Plus I think Benteke will take a while to get back to his best.

Fair enough and agreed. I'm just going to risk Gray, but Deulofeu/Gray -> Ramirez/Benteke a back up in case of drop tonight.

Had 8M to spend but still went for Lamela. Sitting with 1M in the bank for Carroll to Benteke.

Could Bolasie have been a better shout for an extra 1M? I dont think so personally.

          Kane -> Ibra.

But doing Firm -> Lamela to raise the 0.5m and have 1.0m for Carroll -> Tekkers in the future.
