Philippe Coutinho is a doubt for Liverpool’s clash with Spurs. Sunderland stopper Vito Mannone has been ruled out for at least three months, Ryan Bertrand faces a late assessment after returning to training, whilst Arsene Wenger has still to decide whether he will start Mesut Ozil at Watford.

Philippe Coutinho is rated a doubt for Liverpool’s trip to Spurs. The midfielder has picked up a hamstring problem and was only able to take part in light training yesterday. Emre Can (ankle) and Divock Origi (cramp) are also both uncertain to feature. The pair picked up problems during the midweek cup win over Burton Albion and will be assessed, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Vito Mannone has been ruled out for “a minimum of three months” with elbow ligament damage, David Moyes confirmed earlier today. John O’Shea remains out with a hip problem, though the Black Cats are hopeful that Fabio Borini will recover from a toe injury in time. Lamine Kone will be assessed later today.

Arsene Wenger will make a late decision on whether to start Mesut Ozil in Arsenal’s clash with Watford. The Gunners boss also admitted that Olivier Giroud is “a fraction behind physically”.

Joe Ledley and Wayne Hennessey are “struggling” to be passed fit for Palace’s clash with Bournemouth. Alan Pardew has also conceded that Christian Benteke is likely to start on the bench due to a lack of match fitness, with Connor Wickham leading the line.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri has conceded “it’s nearly impossible” that he will field all three new signings, Daryl Janmaat, Younes Kaboul and Roberto Pereyra from the start against Arsenal. Isaac Success is available for selection after overcoming a hamstring complaint.

Mark Noble is expected to recover from a knock in time for West Ham’s trip to Man City. Slaven Bilic says “maybe one” of Dimitri Payet or Manuel Lanzini will be ready for the Etihad. Havard Nordtveit is almost certain to miss out with a foot problem.

Nampalys Mendy (ankle) and Jeffrey Schlupp (muscle) are both unavailable for the visit of Swansea. Claudio Ranieri remains optimistic that both could return immediately after the international break.

James McCarthy, Darron Gibson and Tom Cleverley are all expected to recover from minor knocks in time for Everton’s home clash with Stoke. Seamus Coleman has stepped up his recovery from an ankle issue but remains on the sidelines.

Swansea’s club-record Borja Baston remains unavailable for the weekend trip to Leicester due to a thigh problem. Neil Taylor will feature for the Under 23s this evening and will also miss out against the Foxes as he builds up his match fitness.

Ryan Bertrand is back in full training and will be assessed ahead of Southampton’s clash with Sunderland. Jeremy Pied (knee) is ruled out, though Oriol Romeu has recovered from the knock that forced him off against Man United on Friday night.

Hugo Lloris is still sidelined with a hamstring injury for Spurs’ clash with Liverpool, though Kevin Wimmer has recovered from a similar complaint. Mousa Dembele serves the fifth of a sixth-match suspension.

Jack Butland and Glen Johnson remain sidelined for Stoke’s trip to Everton, though Mark Hughes refuses to rule out Xherdan Shaqiri, who has yet to train this week due to a calf complaint.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream for breaking news – as the day unfolds, we will issue updates from Friday’s press conferences and refresh our Team News tab accordingly to keep you informed.

    Foster / Heaton
    Valencia / Morgan / Friend / Pieters / Evans
    Firm / Ramirez / Haz / Redmond / Hojberg
    Gray / Ibra / Kun

    Questions:

    Morgan + Hojberg >>>> Chambers + Mirallas?

Feel that the Arsenal and Everton fixtures are too good to pass up!

I thought Zaza was a decent player?

People are slating him - I know his stats weren't good last year, but he didn't get much of an opportunity.

I know this has been rumoured for a while, but these changes to the CL, really are the end of me having any interest in it. Absolutely terrible for football.

It's moving slowly towards a European Super League format.

    2. Licky
      • 14 Years
      10 years, 25 days ago

Its part of a wider attempt by UEFA to stop a breakaway pan european league happening. It's going to happen regardless and it will end UEFA, it'll devastate lower leagues too, and there will be a lot of restructuring, with the amount of professional clubs dwindling.

      1. Licky

Like that article suggests there was the thought of previous winners or prestigious clubs automatically qualifying, though I doubt they'll implement that yet. It's all to appease the big clubs.

European Super Leagues have been talked about for more than 20 years, but haven't happened yet. I just don't see clubs and their fans wanting to leave their domestic leagues.

That historic team thing will never happen because there are like 20-25 teams who could claim that. The extra points in the coefficient for past winners of the European titles isn't the worst idea (slim pickings amongst these changes tho!)

        1. Licky
          • 14 Years
          10 years, 25 days ago

It's moving that way though. Certain clubs are always in talks regarding the potential breakaway. The fact UEFA are acting now shows that it'll happen within the next 10 years or thereabouts. Doesn't bode well for a lot of clubs.

personally I think that fans can stop it happening, maybe not English fans though, as they seem to be happy to suck up whatever is fed to them.

minor? Half of the CL will compose of teams from 4 countries, it will barely be European or Champions anymore!

          • 12 Years
          10 years, 25 days ago

Instead of 14 or 15 teams out of 32 as present? It's hardly an earth shattering change

well at least 1 of the English, German & Spanish teams have to qualify currently.

It may not seem much change, but the extra 4 guaranteed spots are to the detriment of 50 other nations chances of a spot

This change wouldn't have helped Chelsea or Liverpool this season, and we have 4 x teams in the UCL group stage pretty much every season anyway - I don't see the big deal unless I am missing something?

If all of the English clubs outperformed by Italian teams last year then it would be down to 3 places for the 17/18 season. I liked how that you were grated places on how your club and country have performed recently in Europe.

This also means that there are now only 16 place from the non 'top 4' countries available. So much harder for big clubs like Ajax, Porto, Celtic, Olympiakos, Spartak Moskow etc to qualify

            10 years, 25 days ago

Maybe - I'd wait until the full format is announced though - they may protect the number of domestic champions guaranteed place, as this was something they only increased recently.

Id hope so as we will have at least a third of teams not actual Champions of their country.

it's already hard enough for Ajax to qualify as it is, specially when we play like we did on Weds!

Why do they call it a Champions League when you don't need to be a 'champion' of your respective country in order to be eligible?

Ditch the losers, get rid of the boring group stage and return to a straightforward knockout competition and instantly improve the competition.

    Morning fella's.

I have both Evans and Friend who are both doubts. I have 1 FT (did have 2 but used one to transfer out Firmino for Barkley). If both Evans or Friend are out I only have ten starting players. Would you take the risk of leaving as is (as both are 75% chance of playing) and save the FT to next week (so I have 2 again) or use the FT to replace one?

    cheers

Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish "put the full stop" on Tottenham's interest in winger Wilfried Zaha, according to Eagles boss Alan Pardew.

Zaha's agent told BBC Sport on Thursday that Spurs had bid £15m for the 23-year-old England international.

Pardew is keen to keep the former Manchester United player, and said Parish had "made his position clear".

"He was our player of the year and is a fans' favourite," Pardew said of Zaha, who scored five goals last season.

"Wilf came and saw me, he believed there was interest from Tottenham. I don't even know what the bid is.

"The chairman has made his position clear and I stand by that, that's the right thing for us."

Zaha, who rejoined Palace in February 2015 for £3m just two years after a £15m move to Old Trafford, made the first of his two England appearances in 2012 but has not been picked since 2013.

    Current team:

    Foster
    Shaw Stones Evans (doubt)
    Haz Barkley Redmond Tadic
    Zlatan Kun Gray

    Subs Capoue Friend (doubt) Amat

Use AOA chip and play Capoue instead of Evans or save it and hope that Amat will deliver if both Evans and Friend miss out?

Use the chip. Might be the only time you play Capoue and might as well do it whilst he's flying!?

    Stones valencia mcauley
    Haz mahrez redmond ramirez
    Aguero zlatan gray

    Jak friend capoue Taylor

Thinking Taylor to amat to give me 0.4 sound good?

    Jaku / Pickford
    Collins / Holgate / McAuley / Shaw / Amat
    Ozil / Redmond / Hazard / Barkley / Capoue
    Ibra / Rondon / Aguero

    Good to go?
