Dugout Discussion – Spurs vs Liverpool

Gameweek 3 gets underway in some style: on paper, the early kick-off at White Hart Lane has the makings of a classic. However, much depends on the version of the Liverpool side that turns up.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were spectacular in the season opener against Spurs’ north London rivals, Arsenal. They followed that display a week later with frustrating showing at Burnley, as they slipped to a 2-0 reverse having hogged 83% of the ball.

As for Spurs, they’ve certainly failed to spark to this point. A stalemate with Everton was followed by a stuttering display against Palace, which eventually saw them grind out a 1-0 win.

Harry Kane is back as the lone striker. Philippe Coutinho is fit and on the Liverpool teamsheet. The scene is set for the big Fantasy assets to come to the fore.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Everyone saying Lamela has been awful, but Spurs as a whole haven't been impressive at all.

    & Lamela does do a fair bit of tracking back so I think he'll stay on.

    Lamela to score 2nd half and redeem himself. 😎

      I can't say that anyone in Spurs frontline have been better, they've been pretty poor as a whole. More impressed by Liverpools offense so far.

    In other news, why the hell wouldn't one of LIV's attackers take the pen? Surely you want your attackers to get the goals so it gives them the hunger and confidence to grab more?

      The one who is the best at penalties steps in and scores a penalty. Milner was the best penalty taker so he took it. So was Rogerio Ceni at Sao Paulo, so is Ricardo Rodriguez at Wolfsburg. It is not that complicated really.

    Firmino has looked great this much besides the assist.

    Starting the attacks from deep whilst Coutinho and Mane spread the defence and allowing Firmino to end his runs in the box centrally.

    He'll grab a goal in the second half imo.

    On the Spurs front, they are a much worse team with Janssen leading the line. Kane is no number 10.

    Whilst many on other forums were taking Firmino out for Barkley, Ville stuck with Firmino. There is a reason why this man does so well. Doesn't forgot the quality of the player he saw the season before and panic transfer class players out after 2 weeks worth of blanks.

    Liverpool simply been far too good for Spurs so far. They're going to be a match for any team that doesn't sit back and defend.

      To be fair, keeping him against Spurs and Liverpool's other fixtures is a risk. He's 8.5m (8.4m) now, not 6.5m.

      Liverpool do better in the big games but so easy for points to be spread amongst their midfield.
