After taking a look at the main goal threat from Fantasy Premier League defenders priced at 5.0 and under earlier in the week, we now turn our attentions to the centre of the park.

With the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Eden Hazard and Raheem Sterling high up on our shopping lists after bagging double-figure hauls in Gameweek 3, the need for value in midfield is vital.

This time around, then, we look at the leading contenders in the sub-8.0 bracket over the first three rounds of fixtures.

    Riddle:

How many stubborn casuals does it take to about-face on Lukaku because he scored for Belgium?

    1. Ibracadabra
      • 16 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

don't think the casuals pay too much attention to Cyprus-Belgium as not in England's group but could be wrong.. AT Sunderland not the best matchup in the world as SUN have kept it pretty tight at the back, and with no goals in his first three, it's unlikely many will buy him, even if they do drop Aguero - they are more likely to buy Kane, Vardy, Costa and others...

        • Fantasy Football Scout Member

You're not buying him for one match. His underlying stats are terrific.

        1. Ibracadabra
          • 16 Years
          9 years, 7 months ago

I went with Aguero to Costa as a) his price was rising b) already owned Barkley c) he was in form and d) an article came out about Lukaku saying he wasn't "sharp" yet.

Of course, that was before tonight and Lukaku's goals, but I was answering the question re: casuals buying Lukaku, not the question re: is Lukaku a good buy. Of course he is, I wish I could play 4 strikers, but for now, I can only play 3, so I went with an in-form Chelsea side at Swansea, who look weaker defensively than Sunderland.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lukaku grabbed 2 goals, he's a quality player, but made my bed and sleeping in it.

I want Valencia in my wildcard but I'm being put of by Mourinhos comments about returning law from international duty.

Need to decide before he rises because annoyingly looks like Shaw won't again now, so I won't gain 0.1 value.

So which one. Valencia or Shaw?

Valencia is going to play the whole season. He is very very good so far. Even if he misses one game he'll be one of the highest scoring defenders this year imo

I can't see Valancia not starting. Their defence has been so strong so far so why change it. Plenty players come back late from international duty and play the following w/end

This is Mourinho. I wouldn't trust a single word out of his mouth leading up to a Manchester Derby vs his bitter rival.

Valencia starts if you ask me. It's only September, it's not like he's carrying cumulative fatigue from the season and returning late from internationals.

Call me crazy but I don't think Valencia will start vs man city. Too much of a risk. He'll bomb down the flank and leave soo much space for sterling when they lose the ball

      Thanks for all the replies!

I certainly don't think he'll be dropped for tactical reasons, but the day before an early kick of is very late for a return, personally I don't think he will play.

But as someone mentioned over the other 34 weeks I think Valencia will be this seasons highest scoring def.

Suspect defense. Holgate's place under doubt when coleman returns. Good midfield. Costa seems to be poor in terms of FPL so far just cause of his lack of bonus points.

      Maybe a Man Utd defender?
Courtouis to Heaton/Foster to save 1 million?
Could then do Negredo to Benteke?

planning on transfering courtois with de gea after manchester derby thats why i did not put a man united defender. and i dont like having a keeper and a defender from the same team.. what do you think?

and Benteke is on my watchlist, but dont have high hopes on him..waiting the next few game weeks to decide.

i have doubts on Lamela though, might be benched next gameweeks, any decent alternative?

and about Holagate, im thinking of bringing Jagielka after your comment, agree with you.

With the flust of mid priced forward options suddenly available, Lukaku back in form on a kind Everton schedule, and Aguero a must have when back - are you finally prepared to go without Ibra?

Here's a different idea! Because you need do two transfers to get Aguero back in anyways, I figured an attempt to maximize probable team output the next two GWs, while still get back to some sort of long-term plan (which is likely to fail, but that's the game folks ;-)).

    Heaton - Pickford
    Valencia - Williams/Baines - Evans - Holebas - Amat
    Nolito/Sterling - Ozil - Sanchez - Hazard - Lanzini
Lukaku + 13.5-14.5 ish to spend on two forwards

Gw4: Sanchez (C) All out attack,
    Gw6: Sanchez -> 4.5. 6.0-6.5 -> Aguero (C)
Gw 7-10 misc options: Nolito/Sterling to Liverpool and Defoe to Bony as fixtures easens, Snodgrass in at some point.

Thoughts, or is this too "locked/forced"?

I dont support Arsenal, but two really good fixtures. Think a combo of Sanchez and Ozil can outscore pretty much anyone else those 2 GWs. Sanchez is not a long term thing, cant really afford Haz+Sanchez+Aguero+Ibra/Lukaku+one other mid priced mid....:/
