After taking a look at defenders priced 5.0 and under and midfielders costing no more than 8.0, our batch of members articles now focuses on the men up front.

With the Fantasy Premier League market in overdrive due to Sergio Aguero’s three-match ban, we cast an eye over the strikers worth considering in the sub 8.0 category.

    Which looks better?

    A) Williams, Morgan
    B) Baines, Collins
    C) Baines, Friend

    Already have Evans

4th mid spot left on my WC team. Needs to be 6m or below (saves Aguero cash)

    A Bolasie
    B Puncheon
    C Wilshire
D Buy Rodwell and play Capoue as 4th mid (makes Agueo move easier)
    E. Anyone else

Really looking a D as enables an Aguero Ibra Benteke/Bony front line and a mid with Haz/Ozil/Antonio

        Thanks. D is complex!

        plan for aguero back is-
        Lukaku and Benteke out
        Aguero and 6.5 forward in

if i go option D above its one move (as leaves cash ITB)
        Lukaku to Agureo.

Aguero and 6.5 ain't the worst thing with Ibra in the squad as well.

            True thanks!
Guess thinking about it it comes down to

6.5 forward (Gray/ Rondon etc) and 6.0 mid (Bolasie etc)
            vs
7.5 forward (Benteke/Bony) and Capoue playing each week

WC Team fella's, think i'm pretty much set. Any opinions on this final lot?

    Heaton
    Masuaku - Valencia - Baines
    Sterling - Sanchez - Hazard - Antonio
    Benteke - Ibra - Defoe

    Robinson: Evans, Capoue, Amat

Would of liked Lukaku in there if i'm honest, but quite happy with just Baines.

      2/3

This is almost what I'd have wildcarded for. Although, I never really would have liked to have both Benteke and Defoe, this is pretty good.

Cheers GT! Yeah, i'm not overjoyed having both Tekkers and Defoe in there, but seeing as that's the only sacrifice i've had to make, i guess it justifies me being happy with the most of it i guess. Some good scoring you gave it there haha, happy with that! 🙂

yeah agreed, i think i can sit and wait with Lukaku really anyway, would of liked him, but also sort of ok to go without considering the downsides up to now, not scoring since last March, fitness etc, and would be getting rid in 2 GW's anyway, but still, i do like him, would of been cool to give him a shot.

i do agreeto an extent, it just makes it easier to get Aguero back i guess. If Ibra wasn't so damn highly owned i'd definitely of gone Tekkers - Lukaku - Giroud or something.

If you have around 19m in 2 that can get Kun back + a 6 then maybe work around that? But the truth is you'll probably need another cheapo already in midfield so it's tricky. Maybe start looking at the 5.5's because I think you soon will be. gl

Giroud might not even play, he's not played a PL game yet, there is a CL game in the week.

He could easily play 20 mins on Sat and then start against PSG.

    A.
    Pickford HEATON

    B.

If you really want that front line just downgrade Januzaj to a 4.5 and upgrade defence and go 433. Good defenders will do better than Januzaj or Capoue in the long run.

That never works out. Neither does 352. Think I'll have to get a 5.5 mid eventually to fit in Kun. Are Puncheon/ Snodgrass better options than Januzaj at that price?

Its only because they have Feghouli Payet Lanzini and Antonio for 3 spots. Antonio Payet should be nailed, so Lanzini has to fight off Feghouli and also get subbed off quite often. Imo, not worth the punt just yet. He hasn't played much so far, right?

    WC Team + Plan:
    Foster - Pickford
    Valencia - Koné - Evans - Friend - Amat
    Sanchez - Ozil - Hazard - Capoue - Snodgrass
    Ibra - Benteke - Bony

This team gives you the choice of which midfielder and which striker (Benteke/Bony) after GW6 in order to get Aguero in.

    Confused?
    Foster/Pick
    Williams/Valencia/Evans/Wilson/Collins
    Hazard/Ozil/Antonio/Rodwell/ 6.7?
    Lukaku/Costa/Ibra

Which 6.7 to put there, Very confused!

No decent options for 6.7 really. Find 0.5 somewhere and then you can have Lamela

Well then it's straight up lukaku vs sterling? No scope really.

Should I go for Sterling or Barkley!

I know this sounds like a straight forward pick for sterling, but I am a little concerned regarding his playing time, with the introduction of Sane and also for the upcoming UCL fixtures. Barkley on the other hand doesn't need to worry about those and is seemingly 100% nailed on, but again he isn't as explosive as sterling and/or man city can be.

Regarding the effect these transfers might have on my team. These are the two options that I have:

    A) Barkley, Cech and Collins(or any other 4.6)
Things to note for this team, I do not have Lukaku and I already have Evans as cover for WBA. Also, have Baines and Valencia as the other premium defenders.

    B) Sterling, Foster, Masuaku.
Double up on WBA, a better option in Masuaku and an in form player in Sterling himself.

The conventional wisdom suggests option B over A, to keep a city player, to not invest much on a keeper. But, personally I am kinda digging option A as well. I am actually going back and forth on this two.

    What do you guys suggest?

First year playing. Need some help.
How do I build my defence on WC?
I had opted for Williams/Evans/Souare/Collins but a friend pointed out that all have good fixtures short term but after 4 Game weeks I'd be looking to change atleast 3 of them.

Should I go just for short term fixtures?
    Or plan rotations?
Or just take 4 defenders from good solid teams and don't worry about fixtures?

Yeah you need a longterm plan for defenders, to spend transfers on fwds and mids. Last thing you want is like you your friend said a gameweek with defender problems

Lots of ways to play it. Arguably safest and most flexible is 1 6.0/5.5, 1 5.5/5.0 (play these two regardless of fixture) and either 4.5/4.5/4.0 or 4.5/4.5/4.5 depending on preference and funds to rotate for a third spot.

an example for now would be

      Valencia Williams Evans Holebas Kone

For me I get 2 im happy to play basically every week-
      ie Valencia and Williams

2 who can come in if needed (4.5)
      Kone, Friend, Evans, Stoke etc

1 who just is there and doesnt take up cash

See Williams fixtures after GW 7. He's got only 1 good fixture in 6/7.
Would you still play him every match?

Maybe. Basically defenders I go cheap. Look at M City, any team can concede 1 even if 3 or 4 nil up. If spending big then Chelsea and Man U i guess.

Having 2/3 4.5's that rotate fixture difficulty is a solid strategy, but currently it's pretty hard to find a good variety there. I think there's good value in a few 5.0's right now with Williams, PVA, Masuaku, Stones. I like to have one premium option in defence that I play (almost) every week, currently Koscielny, but I typically refuse to go above 6m for a defender. It's also great to have a 4.0 on the bench (whether they play or not) because it's the cheapest in the game and you can't get a 4.0 option in mid or forward. I'm on 6.0/5.0/5.0/4.5/4.0 right now which is nice and flexible, but one of the 5.0's could drop to a 4.5 when Aguero comes back.

    West Ham fans please.

Is Musuaku sacrificed once Cresswell is fit. Both are left-backs correct? Or does new boy Arbeloa lose his place and one of them swaps over to the right?

Cresswell is expected back GW13. By then you'll probably want a new defender.
          Collins is an enigma. 🙂

That was my current thinking too, I'll probably swap him for PVA at that point, which is where his price is nice.

Collins not a comparable situation. He isn't standing in for an injured player. He's in the side until form drops. Masuaku on the other hand is 100% nailed until Cresswell comes back, at which point he's 100% not (save a miracle run of form)

Fair point. I feel like Arbeloa has to be first choice on the other side though, they've been soo reluctant to play Byram there. Antonio was very clearly poor in that position and didn't want to be there. Maybe just being greedy trying to fit in more midfielders. Cheers!

I agree that they've been tentative with Byram, and the likelihood is that within a game or two Arbeloa will be starting and will keep that spot if he plays well. I think Antonio was excellent there though (in spite of clearly preferring a more advanced role), and that his being cemented on the wing (and in turn West Ham's need to bring in an extra right back for this season) is more down to his strong attacking form

How important are Home vs Away fixtures?

    Looking at Palace & Sunderland in particular;

    1) Palace - 3 good fixtures, 2 OK based on opponent in the next 6 but only 2 at home
    2) Sunderland - 3 good, 2 OK based on opponent, but 4 home games

Is Defoe a better option than Benteke in the medium term for the good run of Homes?

    1. gwitbrock
      • 12 Years

Benteke could either be the best option in the game right now or do nothing. No point comparing him to anyone else. We have seen his potential so it's just a gamble whether he lives up to it at Palace. I'll be taking the gamble for now but the simple answer is if Benteke doesnt score goals, yes Defoe is a better option. If he does, then Benteke is the far better option.

Depends on the team. Last season Everton were MUCH better on the road than at home. Southampton are always garbage on the road. West Brom always park the bus away and try to attack more at home which leaves them a bit more open. Hull at home look very solid at the back. Chelsea used to be unbeatable at home.

Can't say I know much about Palace or Sunderland home/away but I would say flip a coin between those two strikers. Defoe will get fairly regular returns, but nothing crazy. Benteke is likely to be more explosive (and potentially consistent) but is a bit of a risk for now.
