With over 73,000 transfers out since Friday evening’s deadline, the Zlatan Ibrahimovic (11.5) fire sale is gaining momentum.

From Gameweek 1-4, the Manchester United frontman blazed a trail and found the net on four occasions as Fantasy Premier League managers clambered on board the bandwagon.

In the past three league matches, which coincides with Marcus Rashford’s (6.9) return to the first XI, he has garnered just one assist.

As Jose Mourinho begins to solve the puzzle of how to integrate all the attacking talent at his disposal, Zlatan’s role appears to be changing. He’s becoming more of a front man around which the pace of Rashford and Jesse Lingard (5.7), the guile of Juan Mata (7.4) and the surges of Paul Pogba (8.3) can thrive.

All well and good, but do you really want to have 11.5 tied up in someone taking it for the team?

Let’s get one thing straight. Parting company with a player still owned by over 51% of FPL managers is by no means an easy call to make.

Over the last three Gameweeks, he is the top-ranked forward for attempts on goal (16), shots inside the box (12) and efforts on target (seven).

Those are hardly the statistics associated with an out-of-sorts striker.

Yet with back-to-back trips to Liverpool and Chelsea up next, it’s no real surprise to see so many looking for alternatives up front.

Costing 11.9 as recently as Gameweek 5, his price dropped 0.4 in two rounds of fixtures. With an international break now upon us, Ibrahimovic could feasibly be sitting at 11.2 by the time United make their way to Anfield a fortnight this evening.

Recent weeks have seen the veteran drop to fifth in the forward standings, with Diego Costa (10.0) and Romelu Lukaku (9.4) moving into the top two slots.

The former has scored or assisted in six of his seven appearances under Antonio Conte and Lukaku has bagged five goals and an assist in five starts for Ronald Koeman.

Despite missing two matches through suspension, Aguero also sits above the Swede – the Argentine is also the top forward for points per match, with an average of 7.8 some way ahead of Ibra’s 5.3.

With so many appealing mid-price picks in the centre of the park, Ibrahimovic’s budget would go a long way to help strengthen our options.

Swapping him out for Lukaku, for example, would more or less free up the budget to draft in Tottenham’s in-form Heung-Min Son (7.6) for Etienne Capoue (5.2) as a fourth midfielder.

In a weekend where we saw the likes of Alexis Sanchez (11.2), Roberto Firmino (8.4), Michail Antonio (7.3) and the aforementioned Son all lead the line for their respective clubs, there’s plenty of out of position potential to target.

Yes, Ibrahimovic still leads the way in total attempts, shots in the box and attempts on target after seven Gameweeks.

For many, that will be more than enough to hold in spite of the inevitable price drop.

The underlying numbers clearly suggest Zlatan could very well burn any sellers.

Yet bearing in mind that 11 midfielders have bettered Ibrahimovic’s tally of 37 points already, parting company while his stock plummets and cannily reinvesting the cash elsewhere doesn’t seem such a radical idea.

What are Ageuro's chances of being rested next week? Considering Walcott or Ibra captain

      Zero

Walcott is a great captain choice though.

Team in top 15K, but feel time is now for the shake up (2 FTs & 0.4 ITB). It's currently:

    Foster, Pickford
    Williams, Holebas, Evans, Collins, Amat
    Ozil, Firmino, Antonio, Snoddy, Capoue
    Kun, Ibra, Lukaku

    Thinking a combo of:
Collins / Evans out for Koscielny.
Ibra out for either Rashford or Costa or Deeney (Ibra gonna hit a load soon but next 2 fixtures aint pretty. If i do swap it allows me to do other changes).
    Ozil upgrade to Sanchez
    Capoue to Son.

    Thoughts. Go wild. Cheers.

Yep like it all. Potential of cashing in on Capoue if you wanted to and going cheaper, but hard to find many better in that price range anyway. Gotta hope you get to Jan with those cheap goalies but Pickford should keep his place on form til then.

Capoue to Fletcher gives me 0.4m to play with. Had him from the start and got about 4 points from him so no reason to keep, just hoping to get more rises before I sell.

Ha. Ideally I wanted to swap Capoue to Walcott and Deeney to a cheap striker and play 5 in midfield, but not enough dosh I'm afraid.

I'd swap Costa out for Diomande (bench fodder), swap Capoue for Firmino/Coutinho, and then use the extra money to swap one of the goalies for a 5.0 (maybe Grant and Nyom for Forster and Pieters).

So essentially I'd do - Costa, Capoue, Grant and Nyom for Coutinho, Diomande, Forster and Pieters. I'm not sure if you would even have enough money to swap Grant for Cech and double up on Arsenal.

Cedric if fit looks good, although fixtures mixed.

      Smith at Bournemouth looks handy.

      PVA for attacking capability.

Tricky situation this: Ibra price drop and Sanchez price rise might force my hand to take an early -4. Alternative is wait, swallow the TV loss, and be forced to a worse swap for Ibra. And yes, Ibra is definitely going. So choices are:

    A) Must be done tonight: Ibra + de Roon -> Sanchez + Austin/Wilson -4pts

    B) Wait till next week: Ibra + Antonio -> Sanchez + Benteke/Deeney -4 points

    C) Save FT this GW, and take the > £0.2 TV swing later

People who are still holding onto Ibra.

Please get this into your thick heads: We know Zlatan can score goals and potentially punish us heathens and heretics who have sold him.

But some of us actually used the considerable funds from his sale to strengthen several areas of our team that were weakened by having both him and Aguero taking up 1/4 of our total budget.

We are aware of the risk of not having this legend in our team and were prepared to take it in order to improve our overall teams.

Now deal with it and quit all this "Zlatan will make prople regret selling him this gameweek" nonsense.

True. But thats not the reason for the rant.

Like Bemba says, its this constant "ooh, people selling Ibra will regret it' shyte that does my head in.

I got rid of him weeks ago. I don't hide behind the friggin sofa every time Utd play. I know he's going to score goals again, I'm not stupid and neither are the people who sold him. I think there's better value players out there like Lukaku and Costa.

So far Ibra has punished **** all people for selling him. Meh.

You want to keep him and try and convince yourself and every one every week that he's going to exact retribution on our ungrateful asses for selling him fine, go ahead.

it's the hype of ibrahimovic mate. People think he is some sort of god who will miraculously bang in a hat-trick in this awful united team.

It put a smile on my face when he blanked at the weekend because the amount of boasting by ibra owners friday/saturday night was ridiculous

If I thought I could strengthen several areas of my team I'd ship him in a heartbeat, but I'm not convinced the likes of Capoue and Snoddy are done yet. That's just my take on it.

    Afternoon all!

Long way to go before next gameweek but how would you improve on this (2 FT, 0 ITB)?

    Cech Pickford
    Williams Lovren Holebas Amat Kingsley
    Sanchez Firmino Sterling Antonio Carrick
    Agüero Lukaku Deeney

I'm thinking Antonio to Snodgrass or Milner would be one option allowing me to improve on Kingsley (Vertonghen?) as he's no longer getting any game time.

Or should I give Antonio a little longer? Only had him for the two blank

There's no rush on taking Zlatan out - his price drop will be slow. I would say you've probably got time to wait until the internationals are all over and still sell him at 11.5.

  25. Millartime

    Regarding Zlatan:

I think his ownership is slightly false. Sitting at 51%, this will equate to a lot of 'dead' teams from default GW1 squad choices. Second to that, Manchester United's popularity across Asia will undoubtedly lead to huge populations of teams selecting Zlatan through nothing more than affinity for United. I trust with this logic, they'll be dead teams also.

Zlatan non owners, do not be afraid.

Non-owners aren't afraid at all. The only people who should be afraid are the ones who have £11.5m tied up in a below average player when they could get a better return from a £7m player.

Anyone considering Joe Allen as fifth mid, and playing 3-5-2, or even fourth mid? He plays #10, scored last two games, has good fixtures. Those who bought Capoue for 4.5 have exactly 4.8 to do the switch.

My opinion is, now with all those mid priced mids emerging, like Walcott, Son, Lallana, those cheap enablers like Allen and Snodgrass are being overlooked, but they could get decent points with those run of fixtures.

he isn't a natural finisher but he reads the game well. I don't expect him to score many going forward so I wouldn't own him as a fourth

I think it's too early to know that. He was thwarted by Arsenal and Burnley away; two tough fixtures; then failed to get in on the act against Bournemouth but Watford still scored two. Maybe he just had an off-day?

    3. KDF
      • 9 Years

I think Joe Allen could be the next Capoue, yes he is not a great finisher but he is probably going to be assisting a lot. Stoke have a good run of fixtures and if Allen stays in the 10 position, he will be good value returns.

I was cursing when he scored yesterday, I had double Man U, De Gea and Bailly, but also was discussing how Allen in the 10 again will be one to consider for 5th mid
