Having picked up just one point from their last six matches, Swansea City became the first Premier League club to sack their manager this season, replacing Francesco Guidolin with Bob Bradley on Monday following the 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool.

The Welsh side are currently sitting in 17th position, outside the relegation zone only due to goal difference.

The 58-year-old has signed a three-year contract at the Liberty Stadium, and speaking to the club’s official website, Bradley gave an insight into what style of football Swans fans can expect to see under the new manager:

“I love good, passing football. I want us to move the ball quickly and find the right time and way to get forward and create chances. It is also important that when you lose the ball everyone is ready to react and try to win it back. It’s a complete team effort.”

The History

Born in New Jersey, U.S.A, Bradley’s playing career only stretched over four years at Princeton University, before entering the Ohio University sports management graduate school in 1981. While studying in Ohio, Bradley was named the head coach of the university’s soccer programme, before an 11-year stint as the head coach at Princeton between 1984 and 1995.

Following a brief spell as an assistant manager for the United States under-23 side in 1996, Bradley spent a season as an assistant to Bruce Arena at D.C. United in the Major Soccer League (MLS), before being appointed the head coach of MLS outfit Chicago Fire in 1998.

Bradley won the MLS Cup and US Open Cup during his four years in Chicago, before he took in stops at the MetroStars and Chivas USA.

His big break came in 2006, when he was appointed interim manager for the U.S men’s national team. After some positive results in friendly matches, Bradley was given the permanent position in May 2007, and in 2009 impressively led the side to a second place finish in the Confederations Cup, including a 2-0 win over Spain, ending their 35-match unbeaten run.

In the 2010 World Cup, Bradley’s side topped their group, which included England, but a 2-1 defeat to Ghana saw the US team exit the tournament in the last-16.

Bradley then spent two years in charge of the Egyptian national side, with his reign ending in disappointment after failing to qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

He then took over at Norwegian side Stabæk in January 2014, becoming the first American to manage a club in European football’s top flight. During his tenure, he led his side to the Europa League, but in November 2015, Stabæk announced that Bradley would be leaving the club.

Just days after his reign at Stabæk came to an end, Bradley was appointed manager of French Ligue 2 outfit Le Havre. They narrowly missed out on promotion to Ligue 1 last season on goals scored, and he left the club sitting in fifth place this time around.

The Prospects

While Swansea’s new American owners revealed they had no prior relationship with Bradley before the last week, it’s understandable that there has been a little scepticism over whether the American would have been on Swansea’s radar were it not for their involvement with the club, given Bradley’s CV.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins, as he has done before the appointments of both Garry Monk and Guidolin, spoke of the need of “restoring the club’s footballing philosophy” after unveiling Bradley.

But with the American generally being recognised as a defensive-minded coach, who’s very adaptable in his tactical approach, it doesn’t appear as though the Welsh outfit are going to automatically see a return to the possession-based football seen under Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup.

Bradley does favour using a four-man defence, but according to this report tends to favour a deeper line, with full-backs generally not encouraged to push too far forward.

He has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation in recent times, and it’s likely we won’t see anything too different under the American from what we’ve seen under Monk and Guidolin over the past few seasons, although the midfield diamond may perhaps be used less under the new boss.

There have also been mentions of more of an emphasis being placed on pressing opponents without the ball, although recent matches against Man City and Liverpool have suggested the fitness levels of the Swansea players may not be up to the standard needed to sustain this over a full 90 minutes.

Personnel wise, Ki Sung-yeung could be a player who gets more of a chance to shine under Bradley, with the South Korean a player who can fulfil a number of different roles in central midfield. Jefferson Montero is another who may get more opportunities under the American, with Bradley generally keen for his teams to favour a counter-attacking approach.

From a Fantasy perspective, it’s likely that Gylfi Sigurdsson will remain the key man at the Liberty Stadium. The Iceland international has registered a goal and assist so far this season, and with the fixture list generally easing over the coming period, particularly after Gameweek 15 (SUN, wba, mid, WHM, BOU, cpl), he could well re-emerge as a key target.

It’s expected that Jordi Amat will remain a mainstay of the defence, handing us with a budget option in defence, while it remains to be seen whether Borja Baston or Fernando Llorente will be favoured to lead the line for the Swans.

Bradley did favour using a 4-4-2 during his time as the boss of the US national team, but the two Spaniards don’t look suited to forming a partnership up front, while that system would also fail to bring the best out of Sigurdsson, making it unlikely he’ll veer away from the 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3.

One thing’s for sure, though – Swansea’s new boss isn’t short of confidence, going by his recent self-analysis:

“When I have a chance to observe different managers, the ones that do good work, I mention Pochettino, Klopp, Tuchel. We haven’t even talked about the Guardiolas and the Ancelottis. But I’ll tell you what – maybe I’m stupid – but I think I’m a manager in and around that level.”

He’s likely to find the reality in South Wales being all about survival rather than putting himself on the level of some of European football’s elite coaches.

With a tough run of matches coming to an end in Bradley’s first match in charge away to Arsenal after the international break, it’s likely we’ll see Swansea players begin to creep back onto our radars, particularly if Bradley can help restore some confidence that has been lacking in recent times.

His first few matches in charge should hand us the ideal opportunity to gauge which players he looks set to build his team around, but it would be a surprise if it’s not Sigurdsson, Amat and possibly club-record signing Borja who dominate our thoughts when mulling over Swans’ assets over the coming months.

Who is your favourite on the scoutcast?

    1) Mark
    2) Jonty
    3) Granville
    4) Andy
    5) Luke

I honestly think they are all great and its their chemistry that makes the show so good. There's nothing between them for me, but I may have to plump for Jonty. I loved his "midfield template" grenade that he slipped into last week's show.

Probably Granville because he's the only one who calls Mark out when he talks nonsense.

They all good to be fair. It's what makes it Intresting because I wouldn't sit there listening to a fpl show listening to other people's strategy othwrwise. Unless it was somone at the top of the HOF. I think luke talks a lot of sence but he not on that much . Jonty plays the game very similar to be..not much of a risk taker so I get where he's coming from. Granny is probably my fav. The guy is just so unlucky but he is the one who can seem quite smug and rub it in a bit, lost a bit of shine when he quit last season

Swansea are destined to get relegated with the flash sale of players without properly replacing them during the transfer window.
Feel sorry for Guidolin, as I liked his tactics, and did quiet well against the like of Chelsea and Liverpool.

          @Ryan.

I only play in my family mini league. That mini league contains of only three or four players every year depending whether my middle son "can be arsed"

I take a hit a week on avg and will end the season on at least 38 hits.
As my brother and son/s acquire same players as me I make transfer to ensure I have diffs from them (this week was Lukaku > Costa)
I try to get a 10k finish even though at times i'm selling some top picks...
Three/Four man mini leagues become very tactical...and I like that (who cares what Son does if none of us have him, that sort of thing)

In short I try to win my family mini league with a hit a week and end up with just about every good pick in the game in my squad at some point by seasons end...What's not to like?

Nothing not to like. Most on FFS are OR junkies and/ or TV junkies.. me included on both counts.
I've no real ML rivals anymore. They're all either ex workmates or or online "rivals" that I've never met.
Not interested in playing for cash either, so OR has become an obsession for me, that's why I'm on here a lot. I gave up gambling 6/7 years ago, so free FPL replaced that. You could probably call it a hobby for me, with a busy work and family life,

Exactly the same for me. Playing for OR first usually results in mini league wins by default. I feel as if playing any other way is to limit yourself. Like how a father likes to let his kid win from time to time, for fund sake. I'm not a father and I don't have rivals so I'm more ruthless

My brother works on the customs boats that sail around our coast in the UK. He's on duty for two weeks at a time.

He watches the footy on board ship and loves the fact of "his Lukaku against my Costa"...he's also in his ships mini league...which he wins every season.

Meanwhile me and my son/s watch it at home, but I've no intention of watching it with similar teams. Fanatsy football paradise for me is watching Liverpool on a Sunday afternoon if I have Firmino, my son has Mane and my brother has Coutinho somewhere in the North sea...

Nothing saddens me more in this game than when folk start packing up the FPL game in mid November because they aren't doing well in OR....We get a lot on here saying that, and those are only the ones that can be bothered posting it.

I remember you had a tough time last season but carried on with a few punts, why would anybody not ?...It's only a game designed to make watching footy better...for good or bad...

The secret to enjoying FPL is to enjoy chucking your slipper at the TV when Coutinho misses an open goal as Firmino scores a brace...or vice versa...

Comes down to people's expectations and attitude. It's not a game for the glass half empty type. For me it's about enjoying the challenge. If it was easy it'd be boring

I have two favourite moments in FPL.

About three years ago I had Rooney and my son had RVP. I hoodwinked him by stealth that the better player was Rooney. He did RVP > Rooney and I did Rooney > RVP in the same week....I peed myself laughing after the update...We both ended up with 2 pts...

The second one was me trying to convince my brother that Suarez was a better pick than Aguero...he then did four transfers...Aguero(c) > Suarez(c)> Aguero(c) >Suarez(c)..or maybe it was the other way around...either way he absolutely nailed it.

Wise words Wakey. Yes I had an absolute nightmare season last year and enjoyed myself immensely taking multiple hits and punts in the last few months.
I only did that to feel what it was like though as my OR was dooomed.
Would never do it in a normal season as I'm too competitive with myself.
That's where you and I differ, each to there own. I;ve had a decent start so I'm instantly back into FPL "pro mode" which is something you'd never do and I'm kinda envious of you in that regard.

I like having a head to head league with my mate who takes it a lot less seriously than i do. If we just went on OR the league would be over well in advance but the format of it keeps it alive until fairly near the end each season.

Best fantasy comment of all time from my (casual) workmate this morning

          Considering price who is better:

A Koscielny - has goals in the bag, but that may have taken a large chunk of his attacking points out of the season. Can't seeing more than 2 more goals this season

B mustafi- card magnet, but has better baseline bps stats than kosc. Hasn't scored any goals yet, but has good goal threat and means that he still has goals in the bag for this season.

Yh but it's not like kosc will score more than 4/5 goals this season. Whereas mustafi could score 4/5 and I could get more of his goals of the season since I've already missed two of Koscielny goals

When Arsenal get a CS, Mustafi may tend to get more BPS but Koscielny will chip in with a few goals - you need to stick with him long term to catch them though

Obviously, the Mustafi BPS may be reduced when he gets one of his YCs.

              Prefer Koscielny overall.

Their goal threat is about the same going on the stats so far. Koscielney has been lucky to score two goals off his only 2 shots in the last 4. Mustafi has been getting header attempts and has had 3 compared to Koscielney's 0 so far in the last 4 GW's. Mustafi does look a better option for baps so I think he'd be the better option at 0.2 less.

Cameron perhaps less nailed than Pieters - seems like he's playing variously in DC, DMC and MC but he probably has more competition for his spot than Pieters does.

Both are really bad prospects - if anything, I'm trying to get hold of a Stoke midfielder. Arnie is out of reach for me, but I'm thinking of gambling on Shaqiri Shaqiri for the foreseeable - those fixtures are just immense.

Pieters a bad prospect? A 4.4m 1st choice defender for a team with stellar fixtures, that has tightened up since removing Given and has Butland back soon?

I I were wildcarding, Pieters would be a certainty for my defensive rotation.

Don't get me wrong, I'm considering Pieters, but I'm a bit uncomfortable about him

I say a bad prospect in terms of attacking returns as his involvement is so bad going forward - I've had him in previous seasons where he's done nothing in that regard.

So, with that in mind, this week I'm more tempted by a punt on Shaqiri, with an Arsenal defender (probably Bellerin provided he's okay), rather than Pieters and Walcott.

But we'll have to see 🙂 it depends on how the international break shakes out injury-wise.

Cheap defenders get their points from clean sheets mainly. So do premium defenders actually.

Janmaat set a benchmark for defenders a couple of seasons back with 8 assists. That's 24 points. And that's the top line of expectations.

From a cheap defender all you want is reasonable clean sheet chances as part of a rotation. Anything else is a (quite rare) bonus.

                    Good points, Ruth.

I'm unsure about Stoke defending, still, but that's definitely very rational food for thought.

For those clinging on to Ibra seriously reconsider. Just look at the bookies odds for him to score. Not even top 8.

          That should ring alarm bells.

Obviously if you have other concerns or you have sanchez and ibra and want to wait a week fair enough. But my advice would be if you can get rid this week do it.

I have him and am keeping, this would be the perfect week where Sanchez and Aguero and maybe Lukaku don't play full games (if at all) for his 50% ownership to kick in and watch everyone tumble down the ranks with a load of 'dead teams' leap frogging you.

Might even captain him for some Monday night madness as it could be a week for 'punts'

Thanks for showing concern though 🙂

Perfect case and point of a deluded Ibra owner guys who cant handle the fact he has lost at least 0.5 in overall value and two blanks against leicster ssnd Stoke so on full tilt is deciding to captain him.

              Lol.

I've lost .2 in sale value, that's all, if he brings it home this week it will be worth it friend.

Have you been playing this game long? Overall value means nothing, it's sale value that counts.

Lesson of the day over, good luck this week.

You have to look the other players like Deeney, Defoe, rashford , sanchez who people have sacrificed in order to keep ibra and the loss is at least 0.5 i would say.

Been playing long enough thanks and you are basing your decision on gut snd emotion rather than stats and logic.

No, I'm basing it on watching games, looking at stats and being able to think for ones self and not see advice from people on the Internet who base their logic on betting odds.

If you've been playing long enough then you should maybe delete your account for mixing up SV and TV as you're clearly not paying atention.

The TV / SV comment is very true.

A lot of managers have 0.7m TV locked up in Capoue. If they don't downgrade him to a 4.4 when they get a chance (losing 0.4 TV but no SV and freeing up 0.4 usable budget) then they are looking at the wrong numbers.

To paraphrase: "TV is vanity, SV is sanity".

No, TV is irrelevant to the 2nd wildcard. SV is what is relevant. The move I mentioned leaves SV the same and makes 0.4m more available for your playing XI. That's why it makes sense. Unless you think Capoue will continue to score 7 PPG of course.

The only value of embedded TV is when you actually want to keep a player. Unfortunately the mistaken attempt to preserve TV can mean keeping a player you'd be better off switching out because "I'd be losing TV". Which is absolutely the cart pulling the horse.

"Revenue is vanity, profit is sanity" is the expression used in business. That's what I was paraphrasing.

The only counterpoint to this for me (I'm not an Ibra owner anymore) is that the international break often leads to injuries galore - lots of people with 3+ flagged players now, from looking at the comments.

Ibra at least will be most probably playing the full 90 - it might actually count for something this week - plus Liverpool's defence is pretty porous (I have Lovren, so hopefully this week'll be the exception!) so you have to think he'll turn one of his attempts/SoT/SiB into a goal...

have you looked at his odds? Bet365 don't have their odds ready for AGS for that game yet so it might be that's the reason why he isn't in the top 8.

He will be there or there abouts in any case. The difference between the odds of the top players are negligible.

Antonio to Son or walcott looks the popular transfer for next gw.. Im giving antonio one more week and if he fails to deliver ill be doing one of those moves. Lukaku is a season keeper i think, i got no love for anyone else really in that price bracket.

Lukaku has a 15% return rate against top 5 teams, the opposite of a flat track bully.

They really won't, they were the worst defence in the league last week, they haven't all of a sudden become reliable/must have just because United couldn't finish.

Wales had a golden time at the Euro's, they are an average team and will not qualify for the World Cup. Scotland have absolutely no chance under present management and i fear for England if they appoint Southgate full time and play the average football that surfaced against a bunch of Maltese part timers.

No. But I know as a Scot I would be happy to be rubbish but better than England. Wales are decent and better than England so theyre miles ahead of us.

I wasn't being entirely serious, but in reality even though they had a good Euro, they are still Wales, and the fans shouldn't forget that they have been shiite for a long time.

Actually i do not believe Wales are better than England, if they make the tough decisions i.e dropping Rooney and establishing Dele as the number 10 and realising that, despite his goals on occasions, Sturridge is a selfish individual and not a team player then in spite of the inadequacy of the management they are still streets ahead of Wales and sadly for you its true Scotland don't even hit the radar.

While you are right, we can only go on how the teams are currently, and currently England don't drop Rooney etc. I have no doubt England can be the better team if all the right choices are made, but they're not so so as it is Wales are better.

Wales without Ramsey proved to be the turning point in the Euro's for some reason and again so far without him and Joe Allen tonight they look average and regrettably a one man (Bale) team. If England had a top quality manager who had actually achieved management success over his career in the European environment we wouldn't be talking about the if's but's and maybe's simply admiring a person who rightly could make the tough decisions.

All relevant shooting stats have dropped significantly. So shots on target, shots total, shots in the box, touches in the box etc.

3 shots in the box in the last 2 weeks, 9 shots in the 2 weeks prior to that.

See above. They're always twitchy with flags - of your 5 yellows, Pickford is fine (travelled to England squad this weekend), Bellerin said on twitter he's fine to play tonight, and Kaku also travelled with Belgium. If you're lucky you'll get all of them back fine, worst case, you'll just lose out on one.

Baines needs to go for you, though!

Bellerin, Lukaku, Sterling and Pickford should be alright. Unsure about Aguero

Pickford - called up for Eng
Bellerin - set to play for U21s again
Lukaku - travelled with BEL for 2nd game
Sterling - minor injury from a week ago

Yeah I wanna watch that feel as though i need to watch the movie before I view the series though is that best?

You definitely don't need to, IMO. Watching pilot going in with no prior knowledge of the series/movie makes for a great experience 🙂

There is nothing decent for less than Snodgrass (5.7) really. Josh King isn't nailed on.

Snodgrass at a similar price is really a standout option. No one other worth it imo 🙂

Well Bradley will definitely instil some confidence in a Swansea team that sorely needs it. Good appointment I think.

I think his appointment calls Sanchez (c) into question - teams always tend to have a bounce after a new manager comes in
