A dour Anfield affair offered scant reward for Fantasy Football managers as defences came out on top.

That added up to another ineffective evening for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who played his part in a guarded United performance, resulting in another blank with inevitable Fantasy Premier League sales to follow.

Here’s the final Stock Check of Gameweek 8…

On the Rise

Nathaniel Clyne
Owned by less than 9% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Liverpool right-back shook off a knee problem to start and play his part in a first clean sheet of the season for the Reds. Clyne claimed the maximum bonus points on offer after winning all four of his attempted tackles.

Priced at 5.5, his stock is somewhat limited by his price point which, in the current landscape, presents a significant obstacle. Dejan Lovren, at 4.9, remains our preferred route into Jurgen Klopp’s rearguard.

With West Brom, Crystal Palace and Watford up next, further defensive returns for Clyne and Lovren could be on the horizon.

David de Gea
A world class save from Philippe Coutinho’s long-range effort kept the scoreline at 0-0 and helped De Gea to only his third save point of the season.

The Spaniard also edged a bonus point as United won their third clean sheet of the campaign – their first since Gameweek 3 as the Spaniard’s 40% ownership fetched belated returns.

Jose Mourinho’s rearguard takes on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in Gameweek 9, followed by an Old Trafford meeting with Burnley and a trip to Swansea City.

In Decline

Zlatan Ibrahimovic
Almost inevitably, Ibrahimovic suffers a further blow as he blanked for the third Gamweek in four and picked up a second successive yellow card.

That’s now just four points in four Gameweeks, during which time his price has dropped from 11.9 to 11.4, with more than 620,000 showing him the exit.

The Swede will dominate the transfers out column again heading into Gameweek 9, with Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku the major benefactors of the continued fall-out.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

        Not too bad 59 points.

Klopp on Lallana’s positive impact as a substitute:

"He’s a good player, so it was no surprise. But he trained for two days – maybe he could’ve started, I don’t know, he was really close. Thank you to the medical department, the fitness coaches, because they did a great job. After two days training…he could’ve played, but no-one knows for how long. When he came in he was really sharp, greedy, after 12 or 13 days, to feel the ball again."

Where is it said he won't be back until December? I think the setback was only 1 week.

A somewhat dispirited Mark Hughes revealed: “It's fair to say he's had a little bit of an issue. He had a little bit of pain in the ankle that just needed to be checked and he went to see the specialist again.

“It's a little bit of a setback, but he's been re-assured again and it's not one that will be a real issue.

“It just means that in terms of his recovery, he's lost a week or so. We want him back as soon as possible, but we're not going to take any risks with Jack."

A month ago whilst wildcarding I type:

    (1) Theo Walcott looks a bargain yet largely ignored?

    (2) If Theo keeps his spot then he's the best value midfielder imho

    (3) Walcott most shots on target and only £7.5m, why is he not on every team?

    (4) The Theo Walcott factor. People ignoring him might be falling into the groupthink trap on here. His stats are great, his fixtures are great, he's been picked every matched, is dirt cheap, was class against Hull. What's not to like?

    (5) Might ignore the vibes on here and not go Antonio and get Walcott.

So what do I do? Bring in Antonio and not Walcott. Anyone else incapable of following their own gut and just a sad sheep like me? Usually being a sheep works but this season I've found it's cost me dearly. I did similar with bringing in Barkley for Firmino as well, was a really popular move on here so I warned everyone not to do it and then did it myself!

Its only natural to fall into line. Not everyone likes to be out on their own. Half the challenge in this game is to back yourself but often that feels very risky when its against the crowd.

The Barkley out for Firmino move hurt me more as I was even more vociferous in my views that it was a bad move, yet I couldn't resist following the crowd. I hate Barkley as well which made my move even more weaker on my part! I spent the whole week telling people not to be short termist and Firmino was class and a season keeper and that 2 weeks wasn't enough to move him on. Well done those who truly steer your own ship, think that's the right way to play the game as well.

You may have thought it but you obviously thought something else more. We all think and say a lot of things, you will have thought and said things over the last couple of weeks that wouldn't have worked out as well. You're choosing to place emphasis on the one you considered but avoided and have gone to great length to demonstrate it. If Walcott had of flopped you would have pat yourself on the back for shrewdly avoiding the trap. As a decent FPL manager surely you consider just about everything and therefore always have regrets. this is exactly the way a gambler on tilt thinks, just take it in your stride instead.

Klopp must surely know that now. He keeps trying with Sturridge but it just doesn't work. They need to get shut and get another attacking mid to bolster their squad in his place. They don't need a genuine striker.

You're absolutely right, with their style of play a typical number 9 just does not fit.

Not had much game time though, either this season or last season so I think he isn't match fit. England are screwed for strikers now too. Kane, out. Vardy, poor form. Rooney, wouldn't have even played him at Brazil. Sturridge, poor form. The best English option now is Austin. Maybe we should do a Klopp and use a false 9/shadow striker.

I think people are over hyping Walcott, he just scores tap ins and a lot of his shots are off target. Though he is on form, I think somehow with his ability he will be back to 2015/16 form again.

    Lukaku or Austin? for ibra

Austin would ofc free some big bucks to rest off team

    Williams Vertonghen McAuley
    Antonio Sterling Firmino Walcott
    Ibra Aguero Benteke

Austin has played last 4 game weeks but subbed on last 37 mins gw5

He's top amongst strikers for SoT in that time but above the rest with 4 goals

I went Austin but I also have Diomande as my 3rd striker

  20. sthelenslad92

    My current team:

    Jakupovic - Foster
    Bellerin - Walker - Valencia - Holebas - Amat
    Sanchez - Sterling - Lallana - ANTONIO - Capoue
    Aguero - Lukaku - DIOMANDE

I have £0.5 itb, I want to upgrade Antonio & Diomande to Walcott & Wilson/Austin. This means I need to get rid of 2 of Bellerin/Walker/Valencia and shave £1.9m off my defence.

    Any advice?

I would shift Sterling and Antonio first because of lack of form/rotation risks.

    Foster, Pickford
    Vertonghen, Williams, Evans, Collins, Amat
    Sanchez, Sterling, Antonio, Snodgrass, Capoue
    Aguero, Costa, Lukaku

    2FT, 0.0 in bank

    Evans -> Holebas?

Also have Jonny Evans suspended but don't mind him sitting on the bench.

Man city has 3 cl and 5 pl games before turn of the year

Liverpool has only 5 pl games

Does this make Coutinho better option than Sterling ? (no rotation risk and much fresher)

(this is excluding epl cup game where neither will probably feature)

Not sure that's true. He will score when United start creating. Liverpool away was always going to be extremely tough.

I disagree. He really had two easy chances in two games (the very first one against Stoke and the header yesterday) and couldn't convert. At this price, you can't keep a striker that miss open chances like that. Of course he will score again, but I don't see him getting 20+ goals this season. 10+ is not enough when you have Costa knocking at the door and who's £1.5m cheaper.
