Our latest Captain Poll has now launched to gauge your early views on the top armband options for Gameweek 12.

Last week’s poll leader Sergio Aguero (13.1) now has three goals in his last two league matches after netting in Man City’s home draw against Middlesbrough.

Owned by 46.3% of Fantasy Premier League managers, the Argentine will be amongst the leading contenders once again, as he travels to a Crystal Palace side still seeking a first Premier League clean sheet of 2016/17.

His 10%-owned team-mate, Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) could be an enticing alternative, having scored or assisted in all four of his away appearances this season.

After a sensational 19-point FPL haul at home to Everton, Eden Hazard (10.0) has been drafted in by more than 147,000 managers ahead of Chelsea’s Gameweek 12 trip to Middlesbrough.

With five goals and two assists over his last four league matches, Hazard looks set to be one of Aguero’s fiercest rivals for the Gameweek 12 captaincy.

Also in his favour is a 14-point return away to Southampton in Gameweek 10, which indicates the Belgian may have addressed a travel sickness that has blighted him throughout his Fantasy Premier League career.

With a goal or assist in nine of the first 11 Gameweeks, Diego Costa (10.5)’s consistency makes him another armband favourite among Chelsea’s ranks.

But ‘Boro will be no pushovers.

Aitor Karanka’s side have conceded just once in the last three, which includes clashes against Arsenal and Man City. Furthermore, the Teessiders have been breached on just six occasions in five home fixtures.

With five goals against in the last three Gameweeks, Southampton’s defensive resolve has softened of late.

This presents another batch of strong captaincy candidates among the ranks of visitors Liverpool, who have scored 30 times this season, more than any side.

Topping the Reds armband options is Philippe Coutinho (8.7), who served up his fourth double-digit haul of the season during Sunday’s 6-1 thrashing of Watford. With an ownership of 45.8%, the Brazilian is FPL’s most popular midfielder.

Roberto Firmino (8.6) and Sadio Mane (9.0) both delivered impressive returns of 15 and 13 points respectively in that match to ensure they remain contenders in the poll.

Mane, who was sold by Southampton in the summer, is particularly intriguing for those who subscribe to the theory that players perform better against former employers.

Romelu Lukaku (9.8) may have blanked in Everton’s 5-0 humbling away to Chelsea on Saturday but in Gameweek 12 the 33.7%-owned striker faces a far more obliging defence.

Visitors Swansea have conceded nine times in their last four matches, while the Belgian international has scored in all bar one of his home league encounters. It would be no surprise to see him near the top of the poll by the end of the international break.

Alexis Sanchez’ away form looks promising as Arsenal make their way to Old Trafford. Six of the Chilean’s seven goals have arrived on the road, as he faces a defence with just two shut-outs in the last eight Gameweeks.

Elsewhere in north London, Harry Kane returned to action with a converted spot-kick at the Emirates yesterday.

Owned by a mere 5% of FPL managers, the Spurs striker has netted in each of his last three Premier League outings and hosts West Ham’s leaky defence at the Lane.

Gameweek 12’s differential captaincy options are led by Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe (7.3), who has six goals this season and hosts a Hull City outfit that has conceded 13 times on their travels.

We will be back to check in on progress in the poll later next week, as we deliver our “Captain Sensible” article offering our view of the results and the statistics behind the leading contenders.

    2FT:
    Bank: 0.1.

    Heaton
    Walker - Stones - Holebas
    Sanchez - Coutinho - Sigurdsson - Sterling
    Austin - Lukaku - Aguero
Subs: Pickford, Allen, Collins and Amat.

What do you think of my team?
I'm thinking I'm going to get Pedro for Sterling / Sigurdsson. What do you all mean?

I would rather downgrade the defence before you downgrade Wilson to be honest.

Wait on Wilson news and if he's fine, downgrade 2 of the defenders. I agree on Pedro in for Gundogan, but wit some reservations over whether he's fully nailed on.

Thanks, that's a tricky issue. I would love a nailed on 4.3 West Brom defender and/or an OOP Brunt playing on the wing. But Brunt at left-back diminishes the appeal.

This is some game. Soon as you're happy with your team, thinking you've found the perfect balance, along comes a bloke like Hazard and screw's you right in the bungholio. Worst part is noticing your ML competition being a step ahead of you in that regard.

Personally I like the doubling up of Liverpool players looking at the fixtures, especially Cout + Firm (It's what I have).

        Front of three Kun Ibra Austin;

        A. Ibra>Costa
        B. Ibra>Lukaku & captain vs Swansea
        C. Ibra>Wilson which leaves me enough for Gundogan>Hazard for a hit or wait a week.

Help needed on the same conundrum a lot of us will have...

        Heaton (Pickford)
        Mee Bellerin Smith Walker Holebas
        Coutinho Firmino Allen Capoue Fletcher
        Kun Kaku Costa

        1FT 0.5 ITB.

Badly need to upgrade Capoue to Hazard before I'm priced out, but can't work out who to lose out of the front 3 (in addition to downgrading Walker or Bellerin).

Which of the below (plus Capoue>Hazard)?

        a) Costa+Bellerin>Austin+Fuchs
        b) Kun+Bellerin>Austin/Defoe/Rondon+Alonso
        c) Bellerin+Kaku>Gibson+Austin

Someone has to go for Hazard... I sold Walcott myself and switched to 3-5-2 because I wanted to keep Sanchez.

I've not owned Hazard or Sanchez all season and have scored well without, but I'm thinking now that may need to invest in one or the other, out of the two im drawn to Hazard, thoughts?

I sold Sanchez & brought Hazard this week
I will sell Hazard & buy Sancez gw13
And so on depending on fixtures

I'm going to adopt the buy/sell method with Sanchez & Hazard.

If you have 0.5 or so or TV to burn this could work. But it will cost you this (maybe more) in the long run.

Bit of a general question: how valuable do you consider the AOA chip to be? Has anybody here ever managed to use it to great effect?

I usually try and plan it around my wildcard, worked well for me last year, but it's not worth taking many hits for

I think on average last year people gained between 1 and 2 points. Not in my minileague, though. If you broke even you were doing well - most lost out by benching defenders who got a CS or an assist and had a 2 or 3 pt midfielder chosen instead.

this was my impression. Extremely difficult to use well. Think I'm gonna burn it next week because I have 2 playing defenders, so at least I'm pretty much guaranteed to gain 2 points from it.

It's the ideal time to use it if you know you only have 2 defenders.

I got 10 points from it with Capoue scoring on his golden run but its all down mainly to luck. Better used when you dont have enough playing defenders and even then, its a pretty rubish chip.

        Taking a hit for:

        Sterling > Hazard
        Antonio > Bolasie/Allen/Gund
        Coleman > Brunt

I want to do the transfers before any price changes, does the above sound good? Also opinions on either Bolasie/Allen/Gund or even Snodgrass?

I'm not convinced by Guns/Allens consistency for points, and I see Evertons drubbing as an anomaly, but I do have Lukaku and no Man C midfielder after I get rid of Sterling

Yeah, I guess it makes sense if the second two are necessary for haz funds. I'm not hugely fond of any of the budget mid picks right now, but I guess I prefer Gundogan of those

        Kosc, Smith, Fuchs, Fletch, Austin
        >>>>>
        Alonso, Evans, Cameron, Firmino, Barnes

        Firm Cout Sanch Haz Allen
        Kun Kaku

What do you think about losing Lukaku after GW12 to enable a 3-5-2?

Poor fixtures, Everton not doing so well but of course he's still a top quality striker. Just think having an extra Liverpool mid or a Siggy type player with good fixtures over Xmas could outscore him.
