Woe for Argentina, yet another injury scare for Kompany and a literally forgettable appearance from Janssen marks the start of November’s international action. Here’s the round-up of Wednesday and Thursday’s matches.

Brazil 3 Argentina 0

Philippe Coutinho (8.7) continued his hot run of form with the opener in a humbling of bitter rivals Argentina.

The Liverpool midfielder cut in from the left and fired home a trademark long-range screamer as Brazil exorcised the ghosts of 2014 at Belo Horizonte – scene of their World Cup semi-final mauling by Germany.

Coutinho now has three goals and as many assists in his last four matches for club and country.

The hosts made short work of an Argentinian defence that included Man City pair Pablo Zabaleta (4.7) and Nicolas Otamendi (5.9), as well as Everton centre half Ramiro Funes Mori (4.7) and Man United reserve keeper Sergio Romero (4.8) – four players with just two league clean sheets between them this season.

After suffering an October international break during which he suffered an injury scare and missed a penalty, Sergio Aguero (13.1) failed to make the starting XI, but was introduced at half time to little effect.

City midfielder Fernandinho (5.4) played the full match for Brazil, whilst Roberto Firmino’s (8.7) 60,000+ new owners will be relieved after he was afforded an eight-minute sub appearance late in the match.

Chelsea’s Willian (7.2), meanwhile, was an unused sub.

The Brazilian contingent now look forward a Qualifier with Peru in the early hours of Wednesday morning before they travel back ahead of Gameweek 12.

Argentina face Colombia in their own qualifier on Tuesday night.

Holland 1 Belgium 1

The in-form Eden Hazard (10.1) captained Belgium but went goalless for the first time in six league and international matches in Wednesday’s friendly with Holland.

Coach Roberto Martinez had said pre-match that he might struggle to find a starting place for Man City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne (10.7) in the light of the fine form of Dries Mertens. In the end they both played, with Belgium initially fielding no recognised striker.

De Bruyne’s team-mate, Vincent Kompany (5.9), was due to start. But in a season consistently blighted by injury, he complained of feeling discomfort during the warm-up and had to be replaced by Watford’s Christian Kabasele (4.8).

Martinez played down worries over Kompany post-match, but the Belgian’s ongoing woes further cement John Stones’ (5.0 and 26.8%-owned) status as the Man City defender of choice for Fantasy Premier League managers.

Two Tottenham players were involved and both had matches to forget – literally in the case of Dutch striker Vincent Janssen (7.7), who lost 20 minutes of memory following a clash with Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet (4.8) and is now a doubt for Gameweek 12’s home match with West Ham.

His club colleague Jan Vertonghen (5.7) played the full match but gave away the penalty that led to Holland’s goal.

The friendly involved a plethora of other Premier League players, including Maarten Stekelenburg (5.1), Virgil Van Dijk (5.4), Daley Blind (5.8) and Georginio Wijnaldum (7.5). Romelu Lukaku (9.8) and Memphis Depay (7.2) also came on in the second half.

Meanwhile, Hazard was seen to be limping from the pitch on the whistle having suffered an awkward fall and collision, although there has been no news on any repercussions from that incident.

Hazard and Belgium are due to face Estonia in a World Cup Qualifier on Sunday, with the Dutch facing Luxembourg on the same day.

In South America’s other World Cup qualifiers, Arsenal’s David Ospina (4.8) kept a clean sheet for Colombia in a 0-0 draw with Chile.

At the other end of the pitch, Manchester City’s Claudio Bravo suffered a hip injury via two collisions either side of half-time which saw him forced off on 64 minutes.

Alexis Sanchez (11.3) played no part for Chile after picking up a training camp hamstring injury.

As we reported in yesterday’s Say What article, Chile face Uruguay on Tuesday, with Arsene Wenger urging the Chilean FA not to make a ‘suicidal’ decision to play their star man anytime soon.

A bad week for Wenger was worsened by the news that Hector Bellerin (6.6) had picked up an ankle injury on Spain U21 duty. The Spaniard, along with Sanchez, is a doubt for the Gunners’ Gameweek 12 trip to Man United.

Middlesbrough duo Christhian Stuani (5.1) and Gaston Ramirez (5.3) were involved in Uruguay’s 2-1 win over Ecuador. The former played the full 90 minutes and the latter came on in the second half.

Elsewhere in Europe, Leicester’s Demarai Gray (4.8) scored and on-loan Middlesbrough defender Calum Chambers (4.4) provided the assist for the late winner as England’s U21 team beat their Italian counterparts 3-2. Southampton midfielder-turned-striker Nathan Redmond (6.0) played the full 90 minutes.

so not going to do any more transfers before close to deadline, but interrested to see what others would recommend for a team in my position, assuming nothing changes on the injury front.

    Jaku( non starter)/pickford
Evans, Pieters, Clyne, Amat (non starter), Holebas (suspended)

Hazard, Coutinho, Firmino, Walcott, De Roon
    Austin, Lukaku, Agüero

    0 FT 2.7 ITB

yet to take any hits and had a good start so up to rank 5.3k OR. Thinking it might be better to take seasons first hit to fix defence, rather than wait until i only field 10 man for a week.

    maybe:
    -Amat --> Alonso -4
    -Jaku --> playing keeper -4
    -or both -8

Am I missing something here, you've got a starting keeper in Pickford and 3 playing defenders. How would you be fielding 10?

oh yeah, what i meant is that Jaku and Amat are looking like transfers that needs to be made anyway.
So was thinking they might be worth doing for a hit now rather than risk playing 10 if just 1 player in defence misses out.

defence ain't too bad, once Holebas is back the only issue is Amat but he is bench fodder anyway.

Clyne needs to go. For an arsenal defender. Or azpi/Alonso in a couple of weeks

yes, Clyne and Amat both on their way out as things look. But prefer to have 5 playing defenders so i can ignore Short term injuries/suspensions in defense. Since i have the money Available i want to do Amat --> Alonso now, Clyne can be sold to free up money later on.

I would not take a minus there is no pressing need. Just monitor mannone's return and maybe then look to swap jaku to heaton. Defence looks fine imo. Maybe Clyne to Alonso in a couple of weeks, wouldnt want to tie up money in two 5.5 or higher defenders.
      Atm dont do anything

Which one would you prioritise ditching?

    A) Lovren
    B) Williams
    C) Jakupovic
    D) Amat
    E) Kingsley

        Pickford.

Jaku to Heaton is looking favourite I reckon.

I'd be happy playing Pickford this week though.

Heating on 8.9 on fpl at the moment so probably little risk of him rising again and Pickford has Hull.

What would be your options if you removed Amat or are funds not an issue?

Well I've done Sanchez to Haz so have 1.7ITB. I hardly want to use all that up on upgrading Amat though!

I figure Heaton is good until the next WC so might just fire and forget.

            Cheers.

What has happened to this site?
In the first few seasons it was filled with insight and sound advice. Now it is mostly personality driven ( i.e. Some posters claiming superior knowledge). As the membership has grown, the posts have gotten diluted,

It's international break time that is all.

Also finding that as I become a better player I seek the advice of others less often and don't value it as much as I used to. I'm sure it has happened to many on this site. The more exoerienced posters give more advice than they ask for. It is normal I think

I still think there is a lot of good advice on here and for free it's hard to complain. There has been a surge of new people this past year more so than ever. I'm a veteran of 8 or 9 years to this site and it was and still is a valuable source of information. I just think there are too many people out to ruin people's experience now though.

The trolls that post fake lineups should be warned then banned

The lol at xxxx posts should also be eliminated. There is banter then ruining people's experience. It's a fine line. This season has been the worse ever for this. I won't stop using it whilst games are being played but I can imagine it has put most folk off.

That's my opinion for what it's worth which probably isn't much to be fair

theres a difference between advice and then being told to transfer out Firmino by a number of regular posters after a 15 point haul (and big returns all season) in order to knee-jerk hazard in (this was prior to any sanchez 'news'). thats when I knew something had changed on here, people who have played for years pretending to themselves there was a sound rationale behind that. On match days, this place is a living nightmare, always has been. nothing has changed in that regard

I have only been using the site for 3-4 years. I still think there are a lot of good discussions on here and I still enjoy giving and asking advice - often leading to informative and helpful discussions, new ideas and generally fueling our passion for the FPL game.

This being said, I think I have seen a big rise in posts that are either just destroying the discussions on here. Either the above mentioned "LOL @ xxxxx owners", fake line-ups, people being plain rude, people insulting each other, people spamming the same questions without taking up discussions on the answers they get and generally just a lack of seriousness. The site unfortunately have gone towards most other internet forums, where people are trolling and writing ignorant stuff.

For the mods: Do you have a way of warning players that consistently post these posts? Could you consider either giving some posters a warning with subsequent temporary bans?

I know it would be too big a task to remove each and every ignorant post on here, but maybe it could be a good idea to warn the more "persistent" trollers?

personally , i don't have any issue with lol@x owners, people should be able to take that. its part and parcel of being on a forum in which you are competing against others. if a player does well we cheer, if he doesn't we rub it in. I don't see that as trolling.

True and that is not the worst part of the comments at all imo. I wasn't suggesting warning for people posting LOL @, but more for the people who are deliberately posting fake line-ups, insulting other players and running the discussions with personal attacks etc.

I am able to take the lol @ posts as well, although I still think they aren't benefitting the site...

And to add to the above....just because something is flagged doesn't mean it will be removed if there's nothing wrong with it.

When it comes to warnings, suspensions, bans or whatever you won't hear about it on the site - that's all handled behind the scenes. Just because it looks like nothing is being done doesn't mean it isn't.

I don't think it has anything to do with how long you have been on the site, more about what you are posting in my opinion.

I agree with you. But it sort of does feel like a stand that the 'established' members are taking - hence the bit about how long you've been on this site being important.

In my opinion, for every 100 people who join, in the worst case scenario, you're getting 20 trolls. And that's an inevitable part of any sample space of 100 people.

I would just assume that as a reality/fact and discount a troll post when i see it, knowing a majority are in it for the right reasons - that sort of ends the whole whining about quality. You just have to choose where you want to focus

Again, i have no intention of picking a fight, and i have no background to the times when this site was extraordinary - it's not so bad right now 🙂

I understand why you could have interpreted me mentioning my time here that way. All I wanted to do with mentioning that I have been on here for a while, was to give context to some of the changes in posts on here. Nothing to do with newcomers not having the same role or anything 🙂

And I know it can sound a little whiny. In fact my intention wasn't to complain about the quality on here as to complain about the number of people who are actively trying to ruin the discussions.

But I hope you will enjoy the site as much as I do 🙂

You're right about the more popular thing, there's going to be an influx of both good and bad posters for one reason or another.

I personally think the community here is still great. Two very recent examples - Someone in Chile providing updates on Sanchez directly from the Chilean media, and also the Chili Bowl tournament. You don't get that kind of thing anywhere else for Fantasy Football.

      Agree with the defender swap.

Walcott has to be monitored for playing time/fitness, inspite of the fixtures

I wouldn't let go of Lukaku until he trolls again. At the moment, Everton have a decent attacking midfield/potential, and the whole team is built around finding a pass for Lukaku - he might not stop scoring!

Otherwise the AOA is meaningless if he wont play. Also Cout may get less minutes. Firmino probably 90 min. If so Id consider getting a def in for -4, would basically be -2, given that they doesnt concede 4 goals/gets yc.

I'm 4 pts ahead of my brother and we both have Sanchez Coutinho and Hazard. Does it matter if Sanchez and Coutinho don't play ?...not a lot.

All I need to do now is try and work out if he will sell Sanchez, if he's out for one week then he certainly won't...and if I think he will sell him then i'll just do the same.

I find myself dithering over Sanchez > Hazard . The amount of injuries , doubts and reports of injuries to big players is putting me off making the move early . Is anyone else holding back ? . My gut says at best we won't get concrete news on Sanchez starting before the deadline .

    1. LakhaneeFC

Even then, you're only risking a 0.1 increase in value - so Sanchez -> Hazard is covered all the way through. And you've already missed the main price rise, so there's no value addition that's going to happen if you get him now vs if you get him next Friday

If you're taking a hit for it, then i would wait till the last minute to get him in.

Just a suggestion guys, but why don't you wait and see if Sanchez plays on Tuesday and then make a decision.

Ultimately, it's up to you - I swapped him out the night I heard of the injury, simply because I was going to make that transfer anyway and that was the final push.

You can wait til Tuesday, if he plays - then there is no issue.

    1. Dr Dream
      • 13 Years
      9 years, 7 months ago

Just because he plays Tuesday doesn't mean the issue will go away. Maybe he plays and they get lucky and he doesn't make it worse, but that doesn't mean Wenger will ignore do the same and hope for the same.

He plainly has a problem and Wenger plainly still has a nice big healthy squad....unlike Chile...

      1. Badger Badger Mushroom Mush…
        • 9 Years

If he plays, then surely he is not worth a -4 hit to remove. I'd definitely wait until at least then - see how he performs, he could bag a brace.

If he doesn't play, then this obviously helps the decision further.

I think it's more of a case of see if he doesn't play, rather than if he does.

        1. Dr Dream
          • 13 Years

Personally I don't think it matters either way...I don't think he'll play vs United. He was already iffy to begin with even without an injury.

Yes he's played a few times after the IB but that has had a lot to do with Arsenal's endless injuries at times rather than Wenger actually wanting to play him.

What's going on with the essential Amat? (not joking here - he was essential)

He was the only base price starting defender that enabled us to spend 0.5 more in other areas. Now he's dropped back to the bench under the new management.

Are there any chances of Amat regaining his first team spot after the string of bad results (not that the results were good while he was playing)? Or should we look at potential replacements for our 5th defender spot in the near future?

If anyone has any insight into the whole situation I'd appreciate the insight.

My 5th defender, who happens to be the least of my worries. Especially seeing as he's 4M.

I'd consider swapping Amat only as a luxury transfer (when on 2FTs and no other major issues), but as a Holebas+Kelly owner (dear God I suck at playing defense - with Clyne and Darmian the rest of my back 5) I don't know where to start with the repairs.

Holebas will be out for just 1 game, while Kelly is failing to register 60 minutes very often and Palace defense looks terrible + they play City this GW.

Witcher is completely different to Titanfall 2.

It's an RPG so is naturally slower paced but with much more story etc. I find it hard to play those kind of games for an hour at a time, I want a good 2-3 hours at a time at least.

Depends really, can be fun and the characters are really diverse but I'd prefer playing something like R6: Siege, or Titanfall.

It's an arena shooter so you need a bit of team work to do really well, there's healers, damage dealers, tanks etc.

Have you played The Last of Us?

Highly recommended for PS4. Story based like The Witcher but perhaps not so much of an RPG - I think that would be easier to pick up for an hour, complete a level and then put it back down.

Although once you start playing you won't want to put it down 😀

WItcher is an ABSOLUTE gem. It's pace is basically however you want it to be.

You can rampage through the storyline or take your time just walking around meeting people. And the decisions you have to make, the choices, are so beautifully deceptive (and have such far reaching consequences) - you'll fall in love!

Skyrim will make you spend 10 hours on your PS4 mining iron ore in a cave to take it back to the blacksmith to get ingots to increase your levels. You might laugh now, but you'll do it - trust me. There's only so much Fus-Ro-Dha you can do at unsuspecting strangers before you go to the mines

Everything you do in Witcher has a point, so makes it more fulfilling (though a few of my friends prefer the mines in Skyrim). Plus, you can pick up girls in Witcher, and close them 😛

Two good moves there but i'm happy with Austin and don't want to move on Lukaku just yet. Getting Walcott back is a shout but i'm already worried about Giroud & Ramsey returning and indirectly gobbling up his gametime.

I have Firmino but i'm sort of reluctant to double up. Don't know why but with Coutinho I feel like his bandwagon has passed now and I should look for the next one rather than accepting my mistake.

      I have both.

If his injury is serious and he's out for more than 1 or 2 then I'll probably do a straight swap for KDB and bring Sanchez back in when he's fit again.

No point having 11mil on the bench losing more value when you can get KDB or the like and retain that value with the hope of KDB rising and Sanchez dropping so the net gains are higher when bringing him back in.

Two away games for de Bruyne seems a bit meh. Might double up on Liverpool mids(only have Firmino) or go for Walcott instead.

I should add I also have Coutinho and Firmino hence KDB seems the next best option.

Coutinho or Pedro and use the cash to do some housekeeping in defense so that:

      a) I own a keeper who cost more than 4.0
      b) I no longer own Kelly or any other CPL defender
      c) Lovren is no longer my second most expensive defender
      d) Williams is no longer my most expensive defender
      e) I no longer own any CPL defenders, especially Kelly
      f) Kelly I no longer own, nor other defenders of CPL

I have to take a hit to field three defenders this week, but I think it's worth it anyway, as I'm getting rid of Amat in the process.
Who should I get, you think? Can afford up to 5.2

    Foster (Jaku)
    McAuley - Koscielny - X (Holebas, Smith)
Hazard - Coutinho - Firmino - Allen (Capoue)

Doubling up on Liverpool midfielders isn't for everyone, Walcott has form and has produced this season already.

I think for the value the pool mids are unbeatable myself.

Walcott prehaps playing a more advance role in the absence of Sanchez might be very profitable however.

I'm summary I think keeping that strike partnership won't do you any harm at all. Keep it as it is.

id go as far as to say he's the most important asset in the game right now simply coz Chelsea don't have Europe, same for Liverpool but they have 3 midfield options that are close to each other

Gotta get him. It will hurt ur rank if he has a haul. Plus hes put 1m in my bank.

Great fixtures after the next 3

I guess it depends who you already have in your team.

The same was said about Sanchez a few weeks back and I went without him and i'm ranked higher now for not signing him. Hazard's form is good but nobody is guaranteed to perform every week.

Just posted on the captaincy article on this. He certainly deserves our attention but it is his home form that is gold right now as well as his form under the shift in formation. Some more strong Away performances would seal it for him, IMO.

So who DO you have then? No sanchez, kun or haz? Surprising

I do have Kun but no Sanchez or Hazard

        Lloris (Pickford)
        Walker, Kosc, Williams, (Kelly) (Browning)
        Firmino, Coutinho, Gundogan, Allen (Carrick)
        Costa, Aguero, Lukaku

Is the first choice WBA back four:

    Dawson McCauley Evans Nyom

Any of them likely to be rotated aside from injury/suspension.

the cbs are injury prone but I think that's the first choice

Nyom has quite a bit of competition including Brunt depending on other areas.

Not sure how my team has ended up looking so pony.
    - What needs to take priority here with this monstrosity?

(btw, not a fan of taking hits to bring defs in - but don't seem to have a choice)

    Foster
    Bellerin(inj) // Rose // Holebas(sus)
    Alexis(inj) // Hazard // Coutinho // Gundogan // Allen
    Kun // Austin

    Subs: Pickford; Rashford, Kingsley, Love.

    Thanks in advance 🙂

You need to sort out your defense. A -4 over the course of the season isn't terrible. AOA isn't an option with both Sanchez and Rashford perhaps not starting.

You're correct however with Ibra out i fancy Rashford to start this week

I'd be looking at downgrading Bellerin to a Chelsea defender, pray Sanchez is fit (otherwise then take the hit) and play your AOA chip this week.

Hopefully by the time next week comes along you can then use your next free transfer to get Love or Kinglsey outta there!

      Crumbs. Umm.

Rashford out for Defoe who has hull next?

Or maybe a Sanchez out for firmho and invest the rest in a striker?

      Depends on funds.

Bellerine has to go. Maybe for Alonso. Although i don't really fancy Chelsea for cs for the tot & city fixtures but he may get attacking returns.

How long is Bellerin out for?

Arsenal fixtures are wonderful from next week onwards

"More than 3 players selected from Liverpool."

Even more than their inability to keep CS, this was why getting in Clyne five weeks ago was such a mistake.

Anyone here have successful stories from 13/14 of trebling on Suarez, Studge, Gerrard for a long period? Was only the middle of that season that I made my casual transition

I have Firmino and Coutinho and am toying with the idea of getting Lallana in for 1 week on a free transfer

I know I've asked this a few days ago, but Chris Brunt... Let's talk about him and his OOP please.

Got him in last week - couldn't resist. I think he's a favourite of The Capped One so hoping he keeps a place.

Even though he's mentioned on here and lot, he's currently the biggest differential in the game. 0.1% ownership

If he is nailed I may well double up with McCauley for some great fixtures.

Jenkinson. Debuchy seems to be completely frozen out

Whenever I see Debubchy's name I think people are saying the other word that means excessive indulgence in various things 😆
