An injury scare for Hazard, a Depay double and another goal for Bolasie top Sunday’s international bill. Here’s the round-up of the action in Europe and Africa.

Belgium 8 Estonia 1

With apologies to any Estonians, but as they say in that great country: ‘Väravate vahe on üle hinnatud.’

At least that’s what Google translate came up with for ‘goal difference is over-rated’, although a scintillating Belgium were anything but as they finished their 2016 fixtures with a swagger.

Romelu Lukaku (9.8) hit a late double and provided an assist, Eden Hazard (10.1) scored for the sixth time in as many matches for club and country and Kevin De Bruyne (10.8) set up one goal and was influential throughout as Estonia were blown away.

The events were undoubtedly overshadowed by news of Eden Hazard’s withdrawal with a knock.

Signaling to the bench on 73 minutes, Hazard clearly had an issue and was subsequently removed by Roberto Martinez.

Early reports suggested a knee injury, only for Martinez to allay fears post-match by stating it was “just a knock on the calf”.

However, this morning we’re seeing conflicting quotes in sources stating it was in fact a kick to the ankle that prompted Hazard’s withdrawal.

“He received a blow to the ankle, but he is not hurt.”

Confusion reigns, with Chelsea undoubtedly keen to get the player back under the wing and assess him ahead of the Gameweek 12 meeting with Middlesbrough.

Hazard has been the top transfer target ahead of Saturday’s deadline, finding his way into 229,000 new FPL squads and climbing to 28.3% ownership. The transfer traffic will doubtless slow while we await his return and Antonio Conte’s news on both Hazard and Diego Costa but, given Martinez’ reaction, we can be hopeful that Hazard will remain in contention.

Elsewhere, Hazard’s team-mate Thibaut Courtois (5.5) returned in goal for Belgium following his own scare concerning an eye injury and Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen (5.7) also started.

Everton midfielder Kevin Mirallas (6.2) replaced Hazard after 73 minutes and Simon Mignolet (4.8), Christian Benteke (7.6), Steven Defour (6.0), Divock Origi (6.5) and Michy Batshuayi (8.6) were unused substitutes.

Neither Marouane Fellaini (5.8), Vincent Kompany (5.9), who pulled out of last Wednesday’s friendly with Holland, nor his replacement, Christian Kabasele (4.8), made even the bench – something Ragnar Klavan (4.7) would have probably settled for after enduring a torrid time at the heart of the Estonian defence.

The Liverpool man capped an ugly evening by scoring an own goal.

Luxembourg 1 Holland 3

Holland threatened to plumb new depths when they went in at half-time 1-1 with lowly Luxembourg.

But a double from substitute Memphis Depay (7.2) saved the day, and possibly reminded Jose Mourinho – and perhaps Ronald Koeman – of his goal scoring prowess.

In a season of high-scoring midfielders, The Red Devils middlemen have managed just five league goals between them, so Depay’s strikes – his first in nine appearances for club and country this campaign – won’t have harmed his previously limited prospects. And they don’t come much more limited than a mere 24 minutes from 11 Gameweeks.

Team-mate Daley Blind (5.8) crossed for Depay’s first. His second came from a free kick. Georginio Wijnaldum (7.5) had earlier set up Holland’s opener.

Maarten Stekelenburg (5.1) and Virgil Van Dijk (5.4) both started, while Middlesbrough’s Marten de Roon (4.3) came on for the last two minutes.

Michel Vorm (4.9), Leroy Fer, (5.1) Jordy Clasie (4.7) and Bruno Martins Indi (4.9) were all unused subs. Vincent Janssen (7.7) was not even in the squad after suffering concussion in the draw with Belgium last week and remains a doubt for Tottenham’s home match with West Ham on Saturday.

Things were generally less fraught across Europe on Sunday, although Bosnia And Herzegovina keeper Asmir Begovic (4.8) was beaten by a late, late goal in Greece to conclude a second half in which eight yellow and two red cards were brandished.

That match ended 1-1, while Switzerland beat Faroe Islands 2-0. Granit Xhaka (5.2) earned his 50th Swiss cap and Valon Behrami (4.5) also played the full 90 minutes and provided the assist for the opener. Edimilson Fernandes (4.9) made his debut in a 21-minute run-out after the break.

Southampton defender Jose Fonte (5.4) started as Portugal beat Latvia 4-1.

In Africa, Everton’s Yannick Bolasie (6.1) continued his fine from with a goal in Congo DR’s 2-1 win in Guinea. He was subbed off after 78 minutes, while Hull’s Dieumerci Mbokani (5.5) played the full 90 minutes – something he’s managed just the once in the league this season.

Mohamed Elneny (4.6) started Egypt’s 2-0 win over Ghana, with Hull’s Ahmed Elmohamady (4.8) an unused substitute.

Leicester’s Daniel Amartey (4.5) and West Ham midfielder Andre Ayew (7.1) started for Ghana. The former’s team-mate, Jeffrey Schlupp (4.9), played the last 20 minutes.

He just came back from a long injury and has been sent home to rest. Must have been agreed prior to him being picked that he would stick around for Scotland if needed and then return back to spurs for a full week of training.

Nothing as far as I know.

Southgate thanked Spurs for letting them have him for the qualifier but given he's just back from a 7 week injury and hasn't played a full game they let him go back without playing the friendly.

      No mention of injuries

I'm thinking of just writing off GW12 rather making any changes. Even if Costa, Hazard, Coutinho, and/or Aguero are out or rested they'll probably play the next week. Holebas too after suspension.

    I'd rather relax and have 2FT for GW13 🙂

That's my aim. Ideally a fifth mid with a chance of getting the odd assist too.

I remember a couple of seasons ago I could never catch the leader of my mini league because whenever he had an autosub it'd be Nathan Dyer from Swansea and it was always when he'd scored more than 2pts 🙁

13 teams have to play games 2 days apart (Saturday/Monday or Sunday/Tuesday) and there will likely be some nasty rotation going on, especially at some of the bigger teams.

I'd say 15 starters are required and you would be wise to focus on the 7 teams that have an easier timetable.

Have you compared the time scale of games versus last year?

I remember last year being almost rotation free, at least for the template players. Would imagine it was just an anomaly though.

A lot of teams played 2 days apart last season as well.

I think you also have to look at specific fixture sequences though. Some teams are clearly more likely to rotate than others. It's a question of preparedness. To what degree that preparation will be needed we will only see when we get there.

Also sort of depends on how the first game goes. If you can kill an easy home game at 60 minutes and take off your 'best players' you're in the best possible situation to play those players in the second game, not only by taking them off but by slowing the game tempo right down and not exerting much energy.

always try and get 15 starters in line by December.
Means you have December transfers to line up "positive " changes.

Lets have a simple change to the flag/price rises which doesn't benefit just potential new owners and punishes current owners. Flag Haz all you want but dont reset the price rises when the flag is removed.

At the end of the day my team value will never be as much as others on here purely because I ignore profitable bandwagons like Gundogan and Allen. All that means is that you have to cut down on one position in your team and that's usually in defence.

      1. Kings of Lyon ★

Pretty sure it has nothing to do with 0.1. For some it is the principle that flags are apparently to flag potential new owners of a doubt. Whether that is baseless or not is also not really the question IMO. If there is a process to help out some users of a game yet do the opposite to others there is clearly a flaw in the game. Why rest when once you flag erroneously or not people will start selling anyway. I wont lose sleep over it tbh. It has resulted in good discussion. Silver lining.

Don't understand why people don't share their team link or update the old team links. Maybe they think they are the greatest fantasy manager in this site !
Or maybe we will copy their teams. Lol

    1. Worzel Gummidge

Linking your team when you have a good history doing well is just to try and increase your self importance. Linking a bad history just results in ridicule and stupid comments. I see the entire linking of your team as a pointless exercise and will be used or not used based on that persons agenda etc. It means nothing IMO. My pet hate is when you disagree with someones opinion then they say "link your team".

        1. Worzel Gummidge
          9 years, 8 months ago

I just think an opinion needs to be considered by whomever is receiving based on that alone. Not how good your rank or history is. End of the day its just an opinion and I dont like the idea someone listens to another poster if their rank/history is better. Just my view on it.

you misunderstand, not looking for trust based upon rank just that when i discuss a transfer or a bold move it can be verified. I never judge people on rank, its very obvious from their posting style whether they are worth listening to

Which is fair enough but I also dont like the fact we can't take people by their word. In this case then yes I would agree somewhat but I still wont be linking my team to just prove I am not lying 🙂 Comes down to digesting a post yourself and whether you take what is getting said as a valid opinion or a big fat ugly lie 🙂

i agree, dont care whether people link or not, the biggest skill in fpl is determining what info/advice is good and which isnt. To be honest i usually only try and click on a link when a poster make some outrageous claim, and surpise surprise it very rarely works

Why is it so important to you or others people have their team linked?

People will tell what their team is more often than not here, it's unnecessary to have to have to click to see it.

If people want to do it then fine but it's not for everyone.

Personally I think some people sadly base their decisions on answers from people with a good rank after looking at their linked team. These are the same people who can't make a decision for themselves, ask the same question hundreds of times and then moan when it goes wrong

He didn't come through unscathed. Took a kick and asked to be substituted. It didn't look like anything serious though and most people expect him to be fine for the weekend.

Woah, alot of fuss on here today over very little.

Personally I'm hoping Sanchez, Costa and Hazard dont make the weekend. And maybe one or two others for good measure too.

It will make it alot more interesting.

In general though, I think the whole price rise system is absurd. I've lost 0.5 in a week waiting on a transfer before, because I believe that bringing in players early is a madness (esp during an international/European/cup week). I waited on a Sterling and Wilson to a Hazard and Anichebe transfer - if I do end up doing it (I wont), I will be several increments worse off for waiting to see how an international break panned out. The whole price change system is overly vulnerable to casuals bringing players in immediately. That is a far bigger problem that occasional flags producing issues.

    1. Worzel Gummidge
      9 years, 8 months ago

Yes but that price change functionality applies to everyone in the game and is user decision driven. You either wait and miss out or you take the risk and reap the price rewards. That is not a flaw in the game. Thats a 'flaw' in user decisions if you dont like the outcome. I have no problem with that as applies to all and is up to the user to decide what approach to take.
