Our first of this week’s members articles casts an eye over the increasing number of options in the mid-price midfield bracket.

After Joe Allen and Ilkay Gundogan were subject to major bandwagons in Gameweek 11, Hull’s Robert Snodgrass emerged from the bench to grab a goal and assist at home to Southampton, serving a reminder of his points potential ahead of some fine upcoming fixtures.

With the fitness of West Brom’s Nacer Chadli being keenly monitored prior to the weekend, we take a look at some of the key midfield protagonists priced at 6.5 and under in Fantasy Premier League.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Should I start Benteke or Bolasie for GW12? Or should I bench Gundogan?

    My Team:

    Foster
    Pieters Williams Evans
    Alexis Coutinho Firmino Gundogan Bolasie
    Austin Aguero

    Cech Benteke Amat Holebas

Never heard of him, so would be amazed if he's better than Aguero. A potentially tough game against Colombia, too. So why leave Aguero out - Especially considering he only played 45 minutes in the first game?

Aguero has always been terrible for Argentina. Somehow is a different player for Man City. Most likely for the support he gets from Silva KDB and co

Messi's rarely been himself for the national team either. What can it be then? The pressure? A few places run it close, but I've personally never seen a more football-mad country than Argentina.

I think its the poor midfield. The attack is undoubtedly blessed with the best. They didnt include Tevez in the lineup. And any defensive midfielder got to play their Midfield position

Or because he's head & shoulders the best CF in the league with or without KDB & Silva. This has been the case for years now. Higuaín is also poor for Argentina, yet has been in one of the most consistent & top strikers in Europe.

Meant the support he gets from City is much better than Argentina. Higuain didn't have the best of service in Napoli but still Mertens, Hamsik was good as well. Compared to what he get in Argentina where midfielders with doubtful playmaking ability

                    Ah misinterpreted you there.

Fair points, Bauza has insisted on playing a pivot of Macherano & Biglia which has worked out pretty poorly. Banega & Pastore are also options that Bauza isn't a fan of, both talented playmakers.

They still have a good generation of midfielders coming up, Paredes, Lanzini & Kranevitter are all some of the most promising U23 talents out there. Especially Paredes who's been penned the next Riquelme by the man himself & has been outstanding for Roma this season.

Yes they have a good generation of players coming and had as well. Its that managers always got excited with the attacking lineup argentina has and almost always decides to play a 424 esque formation.

They've always been spoiled with talent up top, to think neither Dybala nor Icardi (to a lesser extent) even get a whiff for the team.

This Argentina side could do wonders with more progressive & aggressive managers like your Sampaoli, Bielsa, or Poch. Simeone albeit not nearly as aggressive is of course another one. Bauza just doesn't have the international experience nor CV as the other options, plus he's a very conservative & defensive minded manager. Such a clash of style with the profile the current team has/had.

Argentina have just been plagued with mad managerial appointments with this golden generation. Tata Martino, Maradona, Batista, Basile, & now Bauza. Sabella's probably been the only decent appointment in the last ten years IMO. Subs in the final of the WC were abysmal that said.

Real pity the current state of affairs though, the old AFA is the real culprit though tbh. Tarnished relationships with the likes of Bielsa & other talented coaches due to their shoddy practices, unreliability, & corruption. New page now for them & hopefully Bielsa & co show some
interest in managing the team soon

Of course Wenger's going to be cautious about a key player with a minor muscle issue. A player who hates sitting out games and is the hope of a nation. The outcome doesn't contradict the fact that there was some risk involved in him playing.

Hi guys, just wondering if I should play AOA given that Gundogan has a much better fixture and is more likely to start than Kingsley? My only doubt is that Wilson is still a doubt and I get the feeling nothing will be mentioned about his status in the presser. Although coming off a goalless defeat you'd think Bournemouth would need him if fit. Any advice appreciated.

    Pickford (HUL)

Alonso (mid) - Pieters (BOU) - Kingsley (eve)

Sanchez (mun) - Hazard (mid) - Firmino (sou) - Coutinho (sou)

Howe never mentions anything about injuries in press conferences. I highly doubt I'll hear anything. Just a guessing game.

I have no cash in the bank either so the replacements in that price range aren't the best.

Its hard to imagine him winning a consistent starting spot with Sunderlands dire form. Sooner or later he will be dropped.

Anichebe kind of works functionally in that it would free up cash to upgrade Amat. So I guess that might seem more worthwhile from a team balance perspective if not from an FPL points perspective. I'm sort of reluctant to go for a Burnley attacker because they don't seem particularly attacking, kind of like picking a WBA or Boro attacker too I suppose. Crazy hot form and fixtures could swing me that way but I don't think its there. Might have to consult the team stats.

For sure. My team looks pretty useles this week tbh. I cannot field 11 if Amat does not play so dunno what I am going to do. Diomande could become Anichibe but Hull have most of their forwards injured or suspended so he should be the main man when he comes back from suspension for a bit

How do you think he's going to fit in at City in the new year? Will take some time to adapt to the PL you think?

        1. Zasa

Can't say or be too sure tbh. The Brazilian league & WCQ's are very physical & dirty, he's carried himself fine all this time. Tite's Brazil is a pretty organized & high-tempo team where Gabriel's pace & superiority on the counter have shined

Pep's Man City is a different beast to Tite's Brazil though. Very different philosophies, style of play & Gabriel will be asked to do much more up front (i.e better pressing, link-up play, etc). Worth mentioning he also also played as a winger for a while & is capabale of playing on either flank. He's transistioned into a striker now since last season so that's more than likely where he'll be playing for Man City.

Considering City are usually playing with one up front and have a derth of wingers already, is it possible he could be a threat to Kun minutes? And he'll instantly be ahead of Kelechi in the pecking order?

            1. Zasa
              • 11 Years
              9 years, 4 months ago

Kelechi's been outstanding nearly every match he's played, so I don't think it'll be an instant change there IMO. It'll probably take a while to train & develop a young player like Gabriel into Pep's system though regardless. A lot of principles & ideas, Gabriel will need some good coaching to get him to a respectable level there.

A lot of uncertainty there mate, can only really say that he gives some quality depth as either an an inverted left-winger (giving Sterling & Nolito competition) where he played well cutting in on his dominant foot & as more of an inside left-forward than genuine, traditional winger as he showed early in his career. Or as the striker he's developed into now & give Kelechi some good competition in due time.

Notched an assist & a goal today in the 2-0 win vs Peru. That's 5 goals & 3 assists in his last 6 matches in the WCQ's for Brazil.

Think of it as a striker replacing an attacking midfielder for the striker spot. Surely, Firmino is the better player. But Jesus is a better striker and maybe has an immense potential too.

Yes, but he said 'unless' which actually means the opposite of what you're arguing.
The correct sentence would have been: "Unless Lukaku get's a hatrick and Defoe and Haz blank, then you'll be proved right."
Or something like this: "If Lukaku get's a hatrick and Defoe and Haz blank, then you'll be proved wrong."
