It was always going to be a big ask.

With 37 points in his previous two Gameweeks, Alexis Sanchez had constructed a culture of fear amongst his non-owners, urging more than 380,000 to doubtless spend transfer points to move swiftly and capture his services.

Such explosive returns built expectation and paranoia in equal measure. It was a risk to overlook Sanchez and, having been burned by sacrificing his services after Gameweek 11, I was not in the frame of mind to gamble again.

I was not alone.

Sanchez topped our captain poll and was duly skippered by 17.3% of managers today – just 11,000 shy of Chelsea’s Diego Costa who proved the most popular pick of Gameweek 15.

Of course, we could have perhaps anticipated a significant regression in his output.

Stoke City arrived in north London having conceded just three goals in their previous seven Premier League outings. The underlying statistics backed them to frustrate the Gunners and perhaps stifle the threat of Sanchez.

To an extent they succeeded, although eventually the Potters caved in to goals from Arsenal’s other midfield threats – Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott.

That offered a reminder of Arsenal’s attacking promise and that, while Sanchez clearly has to be considered as the key force, neither Ozil nor Walcott can be totally overlooked.

The latter, in particular, continues to produce numbers that outperform his initial 7.5 price tag, or even his current 8.0 valuation.

Walcott still boasts more shots in the box and shots on target than Sanchez. We may suffer the frustration of rotation on occasions, but, barring Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, it’s difficult to find a midfielder in his bracket that can compete with the potential suggested by such numbers.

Sanchez is convincing, but we shouldn’t be blinkered to the promise elsewhere in Arsene Wenger’s midfield.

Appearing dejected when withdrawn by Wenger – Sanchez is currently showing real hunger and ambition in his play. For now, we will take the assist for Alex Iwobi’s third goal and look to Wednesday night’s visit to Goodison for a bigger return.

Tomorrow, the aforementioned Costa, along with Eden Hazard, backed by 17.5% and 9.4% with the armband respectively, will attempt to deal damage to the stubborn West Brom defence.

Significantly outscore Sanchez and it will create further doubt on the Gameweek 16 armband, with Chelsea at Sunderland and Spurs and Harry Kane welcoming Hull City to White Hart Lane.

Sanchez is just one key player embroiled in a fascinating phase of our season. The merry-go-round of in-form heavy-hitters took a major twist with the Sanchez Gameweek 14 haul.

Overlook him as our captain or, worse still, in our squads, and we will always live in fear of a repeat. Today’s modest return doesn’t change that: Sanchez can explode points at any time, perhaps against any opposition.

But it remains to be seen if the confidence in the Chilean as a captain remains strong should his big rivals deliver on Sunday.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Marshall will have a first team contract. Its as simple as that. We all know Jaku was in better form but its Hull's defence who are the main issue.

So, this Anichebe wagon, is it slipping under the radar thanks to other let downs today?

We're talking about a serial dud here that's been talked up like he's Gold.

It's his price, remember when Diomande was all the rage? If he's permabenched and it allows Hazard or something, I can see the logic.

Erm, not talking about his price, many took hits to bring him in based on his stats.

This is a player who's historically been toilet but was all the rage this week, many even looking at him as a 3rd striker.

        1. noquarternt

You're talking about the bandwagon. His price is central to the bandwagon. No serious player took a hit to bring him in based on stats, unless they were also significantly upgrading someone else.

True, good luck finding the cash to upgrade him to this week's new best thing in Lloriente if you got him to move cash around.

I don't have him, as I think he's a very poor option, but just saying I can see why others got him.

              Capoue Gundogan Anichebe Allen Iheanacho.

I'm not sure why people don't see that they could downgrade these guys to benchers (Anichebe aside) and they'd be able to afford another premium defender.

Don't get it myself, as a starter at any rate, bench enabler for a 352 is fine.

I got him in before the Bournemouth game for his 2 goals and benched for the 2 blanks after that. Played him vs Swansea and benched Austin this week.

He does allow a midfield of Hazard, Sanchez, Walcott, Firmino and Siggy and will come in when there's rotation hopefully.

Got more/same points than Nacho/Defoe/Wilson/Deeney/Carroll this GW. Tekkers/Llorent/Origi only other option. Not really a big deal to his owners who have used the money elsewhere last few GWs

Yes, well done to him for that but those players have shown in small patches that they are capable of scoring points, I'm afraid that he's priced so low based on his career at Everton /West Brom.

At the end of season awards for worst bandwagon he will give Viktor Fischer a run for his money.

How do you mean what floats my boat? Nothing floats my boat, just questioning how solid this bandwagon has been, I take it from your defensiveness that you maybe drove the wagon, is Lloriente the second coming this week? Vardy essential maybe?

You wasted an FT on a dud of a punt who is 2M more than Anich. Do you have Haz, Sanch, Siggy, Firmino, Costa, Kane, Alonso, Cedric? If so well done. I do with 2.1M to upgrade Anich to whomever I want. Played him 2 GWs and he allowed me Sanchez captain instead of Walcott and now have money ITB after Aguero inury to upgrade with FT. Not rocket science as others have explained

                      1. Worzel Gummidge
                        9 years, 7 months ago

or I upgrade my 5th mid to a 6.5M. Its is known as compromising 1 position to get a better team elsewhere instead of going for cheaper alternatives in a team such as Wally/Fer/Milner/Pedro/Moses which has amassed me more points rather than having Austin/Nacho etc. Now I have 2M and an FT. Understand now son? Think this is hopefully crystal clear.

I have Alonso, Koscienly, Hazard, Sanchez, Siggy, Kane, Costa and 2.1m in the bank, what's your point Worzel?

Most people can have good players now without Aguero and TV in the excess of 105.1 but not everyone gets sucked into believing a mediocre striker that's a mark down from Heskey is the next big thing because he's scored in two games in a row.

Him being cheap means nothing with Aguero funds in the bank for many.

You're certainly picking an easy target to win an argument against. For teams sticking up on Hazard, Kane, Sanchez, Costa, Liverpool mid, maybe he's a better enabler for that bunch than playing Capoue every week?

I have him, bought a few weeks ago as an enabler for 352. Only played him for two GW, today and Hull at home, I might upgrade to Origi it Nacho if I do Redmond> Can/Phillips, if I keep him only planning on playing him in decent home fixtures.

Shocking. I can't imagine a situation not involving a series of serious long term injuries that justifies a 12 point hit.

    All fellow Nacho owners...

Let's be honest, who else in his price range actually is as nailed or actually has a good fixture midweek?

    Carroll not 100% nailed either.
    Lorentte has West Brom away
    Origi could be rotated too?

There has to come a point where people stop chasing last week's points and give a player a chance.

He was brought in by many as a cheap City striker who scores goals and who has Watford and Hull in the next 4, not much has changed today other than an outrageous Leicester performance that no one called.

Does Coleman to Walker seem fair enough? No hit needs and I'm 0.1 short of Toby.
Everton are doing my head in, as much chance of a clean sheet as they did last year under Martinez, would leave my team:
    Heaton - Grant
    Alonso - Amat - McAuley - Chambers - Walker
    Hazard - Sanchez - Walcott - Shaqiri - Fer
    Costa - Kane - Rondon

Because of Messi, Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta.

The fact that Sam Allardyce could have won the CL with those four in their prime is somehow passed over.
