We roll out our third pre-Gameweek members article in seven days as the schedule treats us to yet another round of December fixtures.

To get up and running, we check over the main contenders in this week’s Captain Poll, then assess the Opta numbers and Rate My Team rankings before suggesting a differential or two to help we with the Gameweek 17 armband issue.

The Captain Poll

Despite his midweek blank at home to Hull City, Harry Kane retains the top spot in our Captain Poll as Spurs prepare for the visit of travel-sick Burnley.

Currently claiming 33% of the votes, the England international has netted twice in two of his previous three at the Lane and faces a defence that’s shipped 16 goals in seven away matches.

Kane’s team-mate Christian Eriksen collects 15% backing this time around. The Dane has racked up 37 points in his last two home appearances and is the second most popular transfer target in the Gameweek after grabbing two goals and an assist in the 3-0 win over Hull.

Diego Costa (23%) is the Chelsea weapon of choice for tomorrow lunchtime’s trip to Palace. The Spain international suffered a rare blank at Sunderland in midweek yet remains the most consistent player of 2016/17, with a goal or assist in 13 of the opening 16 Gameweeks.

Eden Hazard collects only 3% of the votes after he missed the visit to Wearside with a minor knee complaint. The Belgian looks set to be back on the teamsheet for the Selhurst Park clash, though, having returned to training.

Alexis Sanchez has persuaded only 4% to take the plunge for Arsenal’s trip to the Etihad.

The Chilean rocks up on the back of six goals and two assists in the last four Gameweeks and seeks a fifth double-figure haul on his travels against an obliging City rearguard that’s kept out their opponents on just three occasions.

With a goal and two assists in the last four Gameweeks, Dimitri Payet (4%) finds a place in our top five as West Ham play host to Hull.

Handed a first start since the season opener in midweek, big Andy Carroll (1%) is also shaping up as a differential against a Tigers defence that’s conceded more goals than any other on their travels.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic continues to remain an overlooked option as United make their way to a West Brom defence with one clean sheet in 13 Gameweeks. Only 3% are willing to back the Swede, who has served up five goals and an assist in his last five top-flight outings.

Similarly, Liverpool’s attack is being overlooked for their visit to Goodison on Monday night.

The likes of Divock Origi (four goals in as many Gameweeks), Adam Lallana (three strikes and an assist in his previous two starts) and Sadio Mane (one goal, four assists in four) sit around the 1% mark.

All three have the form to plunder the points against a defence with a single clean sheet in 12 attempts.

Jermain Defoe also collects just 1% ahead of a home clash against a Watford defence that has shipped 11 goals in their previous three on the road. He boasts strong form in front of his own fans, though, scoring five goals in his last six at the Stadium of Light.

Surprised people are dumping haz, seems a bit knee jerk. He'll be back in this week and potent against a palace defense.

    Hazard > Tadic?

This will enable me to afford X2 Chelsea defenders.

    The case for Tadic:

    - On penalties.
    - £0.5m below starting price.
    - Great long term fixtures.

People will say Southampton don't score goals, but over the last 4 GWs they are 4th highest for attempts in the box. Just a matter of time before they start to go in?

Is Pelle really a huge miss?

I expected Southampton's attacking stats to be dire, but they are the team equivalent of goals imminent.

Look at the high scorers when Tadic did well. Pelle and Mane with pace who aren't there anymore.

Yes, Pelle was an important target man for that team.

Southampton have been "goals imminent" all season. Their conversion rate of attempts to goals is peculiarly low and losing Austin won't help in that regard.

Maybe they are just a team that lacks finishing edge.

Is stats from old seasons gone by under completely different managers relevant?

Shall we pull up Liverpool's stats with Suarez and Sturridge under Brendan Rodgers to assess Liverpool now under Klopp?

Think Ward-Prowse has been on penalties when Tadic has been out in previous seasons, given the run of starts for JWP and lack of for Tadic i wouldnt be so sure.

Not sure if you're allowed to say that on here. If you could remember what Jonty said in the first few scoutcasts of the season, you would get why Tadic has huge potential.

            1. Worzel Gummidge
              9 years, 7 months ago

I dont care what Jonty says and I dont want to take him for a romantic meal like you do. He is a horrendous pick so no idea why you are trying to justify it. Just get him if you want him.

Too nervous to pull the trigger so I thought I would initiate a healthy debate on here instead 🙂

Jonty's knowledge of FPL and his HOF rank is undeniable, though. You won't go far wrong listening to his advice. Capoue (as a 5th mid at the start of the season), Alonso, Siggy ... he spotted them long before we all did.

To be fair West Brom, Sunderland, and Spurs all set up to draw against Chelsea its not surprising why the score was close. Everton were woeful defensively and they were found out. I expect the same to happen against Palace. I would wait at least this one week

Exactly. I think Burnley's awful away form and Sunderland being at home has influenced my decision. With either match I've got someone of the opposite team so it's not ideal...

Same team as me mate other than 4

              Pickford - Heaton
              Walker - Valencia
              Holebas - Ake
              Carrol - Lorente

Everyone else is the same. Are you going to go Kane to Zlatan next week?

Ye, that's the plan as long as no one gets injured or suspended at the weekend.

What do people make of Arsenal facing City away? Usually with top 4 league games both managers outwit each other and play for a 1-0 or low scoring draw, but history suggests it could be high scoring? Pep's defensive woes certainly presume this.

Some one talk me out of Sanchez (C), i have Kane and Erikson, yet Sanchez seems the 'safe' bet after Spurs vs Hull.

I agree with you, think there will be goals in that game. I'm going to captain Kane personally, because I have lost out this season switching captains, so having captained him last week I am determined to do so again this week! But Sanchez could be great.

I do feel that i got Kane for this very game, but after seeing him drop back into midfield too much i'm a bit put off. Could hurt me though, Kane needs just one goal to start a riot

Neither manager flattered by mid-week games. Could be tight, or one or the other or both could go for it from the off. Given the current set of bans/injuries, I think Arsenal should be favored, but not filled with confidence.

Hoping Pep plays John Stones, annoyingly its either Kane who may be a midfielder, patchey Erikson or the arsenal points lottery

I think Sanchez is a decent shout this week.

Short term or long term mate?

Despite being in a rubbish team I would say Snod.

Guaranteed a few goals through set piece involvement

24 goals in the last 6 games between Arsenal and City.

If Nacho starts, I believe he'll get a goal.

I don't think he will start though, that's the problem. Sub appearance perhaps?
