Fact or fiction, Friday night’s media circus surrounding Diego Costa was always going to impact on our Gameweek.

Over 374,000 Fantasy Premier League managers moved to show the Spaniard the door in the last 24-hours as reports stated that Costa had been “dropped” for Chelsea’s trip to Leicester City.

Of those transfers, more than 124,000 shifted to Olivier Giroud but, more significantly, just over 76,000 were to look to Spurs’ Harry Kane as their replacement.

Despite Giroud finding the net for the fourth successive Gameweek, Kane’s hat-trick and return of 17 points stole the headlines and provided an instant reward for those who had reacted to the Costa kerfuffle.

Another 32,000 have already pulled the plug on Costa since the passing of today’s deadline, seemingly consigning the striker to a term of absence and dismissing the prospect of Chelsea’s next fixture with Hull City at the Bridge.

It’s not clear if Costa will be a factor in that match.

Antonio Conte was quick to dispel the talk of a dispute or “bust-up”, citing a back problem as the cause of Costa’s omission. The striker will now apparently be assessed ahead of Gameweek 22, as the Blues work to diffuse talk of their player being unsettled.

That will be no easy task.

Ironically, even without their leading scorer, Chelsea were to breeze past the Foxes in third gear, with Marcos Alonso, another Fantasy asset subject to recent media reports, providing an unexpected brace and 21 points to outperform even Kane’s haul.

With Nathan Ake’s recall, there was talk and even reports that Alonso’s status in the Chelsea line-up was at risk.

The Standard reported “growing injury concerns” and, while Alonso’s start at the King Power was never seriously questioned, there were new doubts surrounding the Spaniard’s long-term prospects following Ake’s return.

Confidence was knocked. More than 78,000 FPL managers moved Alonso out of their squads over the past two Gameweeks, reacting to the four goals conceded but also perhaps the reports of Alonso’s “problem”.

Post-match, Alonso himself confirmed that there was some truth in the chatter but, with his emphatic performance, he had underlined both his present condition and importance to Chelsea and Fantasy managers.

The noise and bluster surrounding these two prize assets has been difficult to shut-out – in Costa’s case, it will inevitably continue.

The striker’s remaining owners will now be forced to strap themselves in for a prolonged period of uncertainty, with the tempting Gameweek 22 fixture providing an alluring reason to sit it out.

Meanwhile, those holding Alonso will be strengthening their grip.

Whatever the “pain” recently felt by the wing-back, it likely pales in significance next to the agony now being felt by those who sold him over the last two Gameweeks.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Heaton
    David Luiz*, Brunt, Chambers
    Sanchez, Lallana, Alli, Phillips
    Ibra, Aguero, Defoe

I did Snodgrass ➡ Phillips, but I have the exact cash for: David Luiz ➡ Alonso -4

    A) Take the hit
    B) Stick with Luiz

He is by no means a points machine. Last night was an anomaly.
I'd do it for free but not at a 4 point cost.

He started late and is still the highest scoring defender, but I doubt I will have the FT to use for the move. Lallana ➡ Coutinho seems likely soon

Unless you're willing to downgrade Hazard to Eriksen ahead of the Hull fixture, there's not a lot of room to maneouvre with no money in the bank.

Convert Allen to Stanislas...that'll get you a better mid and 0.1m extra perhaps.

With the 0.2m in the bank, hopefully that's 5m if Holebas is cashed in.

That can get you Brunt right now (dump JEvans at a later date).

...or alternatively, wait to see who replaces Vertonghen in the Spurs back-line...people think it's Wimmer or BDavies...both are affordable and sub-5m

March 1997 – Harry Redknapp reveals he’s “bitter and angry “ with Slaven Bilic trying to leave West Ham: “He’s on a fantastic contract, the highest paid player in the club’s history. He signed it … Now he wants a move and feels Everton are a big club, so there’s nothing we can do.

"West Ham are a big club in our eyes, but he feels otherwise.” Bilic: “I had to do this. We are professionals – all players know, if anyone gets the chance of a big club, he must take it.”

Only 4.3 to spend after Ake's drop last night, but do have 2 FT available so could drum up some cash by selling Fer.
Not many options at that price, Britos/Naughton/Robertson. Chilwell & Collins unlikely to hold onto their place I think.
Donald Love for 4.0m at Sunderland whilst the Africans are away could be a temporary solution, but just kicks the issue down the road really

That was just a coin toss. I was sure that Leicester would at least score 1. Never could have predicted that Alonso would score two

Surprised to see so many people getting Coutinho in.

Might take a while to get fit, has awful league fixtures and numerous cup games to contend with. And then there is a strong chance he'll be missing for gws 26 + 28 due to cup fixtures so you'd have get rid anyway.

Why not just wait till gw30 when it all passes and GE has great fixtures and dgws coming his way?

So many cheaper alternatives at the moment, I wouldn't want KDB unless City start showing some form. Spurs next too...

Any suggestions ? Got 1.7 itb, no FT as moved Ake to Rose:

    Heaton (Robo)

    Alonso, Rose, Brunt

Hazard (C), Sanchez, Phillips, Stanislas, Eriksen

    Ibra, Giroud

    (Carroll, Pieters, Amat)

    Thanks all

I'm not really a fan of the phrase 'due' but I can't help feeling Hazard could get the haul against Hull everyone has been waiting for.....We shall see, I'm hoping I can keep my nerve with the arm band

Yes its always a problem isn't it, I'm normally in your boat but am trying to prioritise points over value from here on as my over all TV is ok. Giroud rose .1 since I got him so I will lose .2 max....Plus who ever my replacement is going to be I guess, hope Lukaku doesn't go up too much ! Cheers

1.7itb and 2 Fts, defence seems to be a huge source of points this season I've missed out on!

    Valdes
    McCauley holebas VVD
    Hazard Sanchez eriksen lallana Phillips
    Costa Ibra

    Should I...
    A) Holebas and VVD to Baines and Walker and hold 0.4 for Costa to Kane? (Exact cash)
    B) just do Holebas to Baines and wait and see...

Just have a feeling Spurs will turn city over next week.

afraid that 0.6 is needed now for Costa 10.5 > Kane 11.1
there is a volatile market out there after the Costa news.
yes, they can beat City. I watched the Spurs-WBA game yesterday and it was one of the best performances I've seen from a football team....a joy to watch. great game from Walker, Rose, Alli, Eriksen and master class from Kane. their both DMs Wanayama and Dembele brilliantly shield the solid defence (shame Vertoghen got injured)
I want to get Kane myself. tough task.

      Heaton, Pickford
      Alonso, Baines, Brunt, Pieters, Yoshida
      Sanchez, Alli, Eriksen, Lallana, Phillips
      Ibra, Defoe, Giroud

      1.8M ITB
      Giroud > Kane - I am 0.7 short. who should I sacrifice?

Just noticed the price shifts, darn. Baines'fixtures are so enticing but I'm getting seriously burned not having Spurs or Chelsea defence.
I suppose at some point I can swap hazard and Costa to Pedro and Kane.
Think triple Spurs attack is overkill? If so use one of eriksen Alli as yourmake weight? Or lallana to snod/stanislas?
