As anticipated, Gameweek 30 is already an edgy affair.

With so much uncertainty surrounding the Fantasy Premier League captaincy decision, we’ve already seen the “big two” put in their shifts and ultimately disappoint.

Backed by 14.5% and 13.5% respectively, Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku both endured frustrating afternoons, although their efforts, at least statistically, were worlds apart.

Costa shook off concerns surrounding his fitness to take on Palace and predictably earned the top billing for armband, nudging out Lukaku by just over 40,000 managers.

But, having failed to produce double-figures at Stamford Bridge all season, Costa again huffed and puffed without impact. A staggering nine attempts on goal, all from inside the box, were repelled by a determined Eagles rearguard.

A booking meant that the Spaniard has produced back-to-back single point returns, while his dry spell now means he’s provided just two goals from his last seven Gameweeks.

With Manchester United’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic now back from his suspension, that kind of output will surely lead to further ownership losses; Costa shed 55,000+ FPL managers heading into Gameweek 30.

The Chelsea man is already the third most sold asset since today’s deadline, as one of only two non-flagged players in the top eight being jettisoned.

The other is Lukaku.

While Costa did at least show willing in the defeat to Palace, Everton’s talisman made little impression in the earlier Merseyside derby.

While the two-point return represented his first blank in five Gameweeks, Lukaku failed to muster a single effort on goal. Over his two matches with Liverpool, he’s produced just one shot in total.

Significantly perhaps, the only other two matches in which he’s failed to register a shot on goal were against Chelsea in Gameweek 11 and Manchester United in Gameweek 14, suggesting that Lukaku is still struggling to make an impression on the big stage.

Tuesday’s trip to Old Trafford will be key, then, with the Belgian also under increased pressure now that Ibrahimovic is back in the equation, with a trip to Sunderland and a double Gameweek 34 beckoning.

While we consider our future approach up front, the issue of the Gameweek 30 captaincy remains unsettled.

Jamie Vardy and Eden Hazard also made their contributions today, with the Leicester City striker’s goal, his fourth in as many Gameweeks, offering a seven-point reward.

Certainly handy, but perhaps not the haul expected by the 197,000 who brought him in, particularly for those who may have spent a four-point hit alongside their sale of Seamus Coleman.

It remains to be seen if the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Sergio Aguero and Gylfi Sigurdsson can produce a genuinely big return to help their backers steal a march.

Sanchez and Aguero will square off at the Emirates wearing the armband for 5.7% and 8.8% respectively.

Prior to that, Gylfi Sigurdsson will make his pitch. He claimed just over 62,000 backers or 1.4%, although interestingly, twenty of the top 100 FPL managers opted for the Swans playmaker, making him the top choice among that elite group.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    A) Mane>Coutinho/Firmino
    B) Mane>Eriksen
    C) Mane>Hazard
    D) Mane>Sanchez + Baines>Yoshida/Gibson -4
    E) Mane>Sanchez + Aguero>Ibra -4
    F) Mane>Sanchez + Defoe>Benteke/Gabbiadini -4

    What to do with Mane.

With Mane out midweek most likely and possibly more what are his owners doing with him?

Holding out and happy to bench for a while?

Or seizing the moment to move to another player? If so who are the best options?

Last night with Alli gaining considerable ownership and Mane falling that looked to be the key move?

I'm ditching for Sanchez. Have enough in the bank to do that without a hit. Will probably captain Sanchez as well v WHU in GWK 31.

I took Mane's price fall on the chin last night....I'm not that desperate for 0.1m to get in a player who is yet to play the next day (even if they are a bullet proof Chilean who can score even if both legs were removed).

After the trouble you caused the other week with your comments on making early transfers you had no choice but to wait didn't you? 😉

Ha, I would have anyway. I don't mind early transfers if the main candidates have already played. So anyone who did Mane to Alli last night was being sensible.

But transferring our a player for Sanchez/Aguero or anyone else yet to play for the sake of 0.1 is just odd.

Uh-oh...I'm going off on one again 😉

Haha yes I know what you mean. I think it just came down to hindsight. It's easy to say it after a player gets injured but most weeks making early transfers is a requirement if your going to be able to compete in team value, especially this season.

I think I'm 0.2 down in team value by being patient. Can only think of two times I've waited until they played and they've gone up in price before I made the move.

I don't think its been a requirement at all.

Since I've been patient my rankings have gone up because those extra days also give extra knowledge from press conferences etc.

I think If we're talking just about transferring in players before they play then I agree there will be few occasions. However, if we are talking about all early transfers the value changes are quite significant. For example, I've done Mane to Zaha already. That's saved me losing 0.1 on Mane already plus Zaha looks like going up 0.1 today - so that's 0.2 difference in just two days.

It's all early transfers I'm relating to when I say most are needed to compete on team value. For the record, I wish FPL would lock prices whilst game weeks are live. That would remove a lot of the 'risk' factor.

Me too. Waiting has helped my rank . Early moves hindered it because they were more rushed and missed vital later info.

Mane>Sanchez was a future move I planned for GW32 but the pending price changes and his form forced me to do Mane>Alli.

I'll no doubt still get Sanchez in a 3 move xfer, but only after assessing form & knowing more on his future dgw's.

      I play 3-5-2 with:

      Alli Sanchez siggy sterling Mané
      Vardy lukaku (Barnes)

Sont tempted to bench mané this week, Barnes has stoke at home... Then do mané+Barnes to Ward-prowse + ibra without hit.

    Hello all

Advice welcome. Plan was always to do Mane > Sanchez at some point. Mane's injury means I need to do that this week. But I need to downgrade elsewhere to free up cash. I was going to do Defoe > Gabbiadini. But with Gab's still injured that seems rash at this stage. Other contenders are Alonso (probably to Vertonghen) or Lanzini (probably to Zaha). Real quandary this one. Ta

Am I crazy to bench Alonso for Chambers

Chambers has the better fixture but Alonso has goal threat

I'm tempted to bench Alonso for Robertson and/or Brunt. I think it's unlikely Chelsea keep a CS against City.

Annoyingly enough, he got points against bigger teams this season, so quite tough,

    Help please folks :

    Heaton / Jaku
    Baines/McAuley/Alonso/Maguire/Funes Mori
    Sanchez/ Alli / Siggy/ Firmino/Carroll
    Vardy/Carroll/Lukaku

    2.9M in the bank

I quite honestly pretty happy with my current team, got an eye on Ibra for the double in 34 and i still have WC to play (probably GW36).

What should i be thinking about in the next 3GWs? Boro defender? Palace defender/attacker?

Whenever I find myself happy with my team it usually means i'm missing something!
    Ideas/advice much appreciated. Thank you

Thoughts from Alonso owners? Looking at a cheaper Def like Sakho and use the extra cash on a striker as I already own Bert and Val.

Will probably be out for an Arsenal def for their DGW, but not in a hurry to ditch right now. Need to use my frees to beef up my attack as a first priority
