Strikers took centre stage among our Hot Topic posters this week as the community keeps its fingers crossed that January’s transfer dealings improve the pool of forward options.

Price changes, patience in the transfer market and a spot of Scoutcast magic are also covered in our discussions, while our community scribes focus on the Premier League’s manager merry-go-round and the best players over the last 15 years.

We finish off with a look at the latest from our Members’ table constructors and our community competitions.

The Community Articles

With 15 years worth of Fantasy Premier League dream team data at hand, Wesmantooth has been delving through the archives to pinpoint key strategies for success and look at those players vying for an elite end of season listing this time around.

Meanwhile, FPL Virgin has been looking at how a new boss can help or hinder a Premier League team’s chances of success, given seven clubs have already decided to part company with their manager this season.

Among those to make a change at the top is Stoke City, who look set for a rough evening on Monday when they travel to Old Trafford according to Hutch_James’ latest canvassing of ‘the crowd’.

Top Marx has been named community writer of December following this week’s vote. A £20 Amazon voucher is on his way to him.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The community’s attacking line-ups are in flux, according to our Hot Topic on strikers, as Fantasy managers eagerly await third-forward prospects to emerge in the January transfer window.

Another factor driving the desire to make changes up top is that Sergio Aguero now looks largely rotation-free due to the injury to team-mate Gabriel Jesus.

The Sky Blues striker certainly looks in fine form, says Wet Dream in his discussion on the Argentinian. But Doosra’s latest fixture analysis, as delivered by G-Whizz, advises waiting on transferring him in until after his tricky away match at Liverpool this weekend.

There was evidence that being cautious in the transfer market can reap rewards in our latest Live Hall of Fame update, as one of FPL’s most patient ever managers makes a return to the top three.

However, Mei you shagua warns against being too reticent when making transfers after losing points by sticking with Dele Alli and Leroy Sane over their barren run of games.

Patience may also prove a virtue for those that clung onto Reds winger Mohamed Salah during his recent injury lay-off.

Our discussion on FPL’s transfer market details how the Egyptian, who is set to return to action at Anfield this Sunday, confounded price change predictions by retaining his full 10.1 value over his short break, much to the annoyance of the 649,000 FPL managers who have shipped him out over the last two weeks.

Last season’s FPL winner Ben Crabtree is another not overly pleased by Salah, with his Liverpool player ban proving far less successful this time around thanks to the African Player of the Year’s relentless scoring form. Following Ben’s latest musings on his season,  FPL Virgin sparked a discussion on whether this former champion should rethink his heart over head policy regarding Liverpool assets.

With the second FPL Wildcard now available, we canvassed the community’s views on which players deserve a place in a revamped side.

Stoke players are unlikely to grace many Wildcard drafts due to a dire run of form that ultimately cost their boss Mark Hughes his job. But with an impending change of management and a strong run of fixtures, we pondered whether Potters assets may just be worth looking at.

Chelsea and Arsenal also have strong schedules, but with patchy form for some of their key players the community is also reluctant to invest heavily according to our Hot Topic on their players.

Finally, eagle-eyed Scoutcast viewers spotted a moment of magic in this week’s show involving a glass of water travelling 150 miles across four English counties within a second.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

There’s some surprising names to cherry pick in my latest goals imminent table this week, while those in search of a striker are advised to check out Doosra’s latest Deadly Assassins standings.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

My Pretty Pony is on the look-out for at least six other community regulars to take part in the inaugural FFScout charity football event. Some 16 Fantasy managers have already signed up for the event, which takes place on February 24.

Elsewhere, Speedyboyz dropped by with the latest from the Community Watch tournament, which in Matchweek 15 features a number of key battles at the top and bottom of the table.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

Yeah he is but I just fancy a little punt. Now he has started last 4 and looked good, he is a natural left back unlike the others.

If he plays he is a great choice - with these sorts of players you just have to get them in and see what happens, and in 5 weeks time you are either happily smug or you have been playing your bench fodder and getting a few points if lucky - risk/reward

    Pope (Elliot)
    Vertonghen, Christensen, Ogbonna (Klavan, Martina)
    Salah, Sterling, Lingard, Richarlison, Eriksen
    Kane, Morata (DCL)

    1 FT, 1.0 ITB

I plan to save FT. Next week:
    1) Morata, DCL > Aguero, Crouch
    2) Morata, Eriksen > Aguero, Mahrez
    3) DCL, Eriksen, Vertonghen > Aguero, McArthur, Mustafi

    Or this week
    Vertoghen > Mustafi

I'm itching to click afraid of missing another week of not having him.
It's either that or sticking & weighing up him or Aguero for next week.

Salah or Lingard. Definitely not Kane - how many times have Spurs struggled at home vs deep defending teams? Why would it be different this time? Pickford great GK too.
If Im not mistaken Kane only had fun at home in the League vs Pool, a very poor Stoke side and a Soton side that didnt give a shit and were missing both wing backs.

There will be goals in Pool-City. Stoke very poor. Salah or Lingard for me.

Think I'm gonna go Morata, basically because nobody else is and I think he has just as much chance of scoring today then Kane against Everton's bus. Craving a huge green arrow

      Form
      Fixture
      Home
      Stoke
      Monday night game
      My new signing

Have triple Spurs attack (don't need 4)
Horrible rank so can afford or need captain punts

      Kane.
      - he is in good form, blank just against West Ham where he was recovering from illness
      - solid fixture - even if Everton park the bus I can see Tottenham capable of scoring 2,3 goals. Burnley defend deep to and we now Kane scored HT against them
      - Tottenham lost points last game and they usually react well after bad results
      - after Southampton game they have 3 difficult opponents, so they need all 3 points today to fight for CL spots
      - high involvement in one of the best attacks in the league
      - explosiveness potential

      Son.

Everton face lots of shots, usually lose a midfielder who scores.
      Wonderful differential.

      I think Kane will blank.

Also, I dont think Holgate will play. After last weeks controversy he's deleted social media accounts after lpool fans found homophobic tweets from when he was a kid. I think Keane and Williams will start, meaning Everton sit deep with little pace.

If I had Eriksson, I'd captain him.

Important cup tie for me, teams are almost identical (assuming same captain), it boils down to just:

No. I wouldn't. But if you are going 451 you may as well get Ayew or Quaner and then upgrade a midfielder. I think you need another heavy hitting midfielder to make the. 451 pay off. Moat people have up to 4 of your playing midfielders. Otherwise every week you are putting Son up against Morata/Aguero in other people's team. You are likely to lose out.

Hey guys, decided to play my WC. A bit early but I needed to change something up.

    Pope Elliot
    Alonso Jones Schindler Ogbonna Dunk
    Salah Eriksen Sterling Lingard Carroll
    Kane Firmino Ayew

    0 ITB
    WC activated

    Any changes I should make?

      • 11 Years

Looks good but maybe take out Eriksen for Mahrez or whoever as I feel you don't need double Spurs and upgrading Pope.

Also I think using your WC depends on your situation. If you need to make up ground I suggest taking some risks and going for players others at the top probably don't have. For example if everyone has Kane, yes its a massive risk but I would suggest taking him out and using the money to upgrade other areas of your team.

Need to blow a FT. Please help!

    A) Get a fifth playing defender by upgrading Honey to £4.6m (alongside Jones, Ota, Ogbana, Schindler)

    B) Replace injured Quaner (also impacted by Pritchard) with a £5.2m

GW23 swap Quaner for Ayew and roll FT

GW24 swap Ayew for Crouch and roll FT

GW25 swap Kane for Kun and see if DCL needs to go

Assuming all defenders, goalies and midfield remain fit

Like to try squeeze value out of every player.

I remember when Moreno was thought to be back early Jan...still red flagged...

Don't want to be tricked by Quaner in case DCL does not start

What transfer are you thinking of then? I'm guessing a good defender like Alonso? Don't know if he's worth a hit though.

I also have 4.2 ITB and 0 FT. Looking to bring Alonso in for a hit as well. Alternative is wait a week and go DCL to Firmino instead. Undecided.

I have decided that I won't take a hit. Really don't like taking hits for defenders and my starting 3 have okay fixtures + I already own Christensen from Chelsea.

Next GW, I'll evaluate again. DCL to Firmino is a good shout, upgrading Eriksen or one of my defenders will be the other possibilities then.

Eriksen goes for Mahrez after next GW. I don’t often take hits for defenders either, but I don’t have any Chelsea cover and fancy them getting a CS. Alternative is I play Maguire or Ogbonna.

Jones or DDG are ones you should be looking at. Alonso as well for sure. Maybe even KdB in for Eriksen – no need for double spurs this season, they're not very good.

Well those are all valid points. If I had a FT, I'd surely bring one of them United boys in to strenghten my defence. I just really don't like taking hits for defenders, especially now that my starting 3 have okay fixtures.

Double Spurs not needed is true, that was just for the DGW. Will sort that out later and move for KDB/Mahrez, but Eriksen plays Everton at home so don't really fance a hit either.

This week I think they all concede but Otamendi is the only real goal threat going forward.

Also I understand your predicament but personally I'll never bench a 6 mil+ defender no matter who they play.

I've been let down too many times by Ramsey over the years to consider him. He'll have a short, brilliant run of about 3 games then go quiet then get injured. Never again.

just can not put lingaard in my squad... dont rate him at all. just a rotation waiting to happen

ramsey has been kind to me, just get the feeling he's the most dangerous arsenal player at just 6.9 ...
