Strikers took centre stage among our Hot Topic posters this week as the community keeps its fingers crossed that January’s transfer dealings improve the pool of forward options.

Price changes, patience in the transfer market and a spot of Scoutcast magic are also covered in our discussions, while our community scribes focus on the Premier League’s manager merry-go-round and the best players over the last 15 years.

We finish off with a look at the latest from our Members’ table constructors and our community competitions.

The Community Articles

With 15 years worth of Fantasy Premier League dream team data at hand, Wesmantooth has been delving through the archives to pinpoint key strategies for success and look at those players vying for an elite end of season listing this time around.

Meanwhile, FPL Virgin has been looking at how a new boss can help or hinder a Premier League team’s chances of success, given seven clubs have already decided to part company with their manager this season.

Among those to make a change at the top is Stoke City, who look set for a rough evening on Monday when they travel to Old Trafford according to Hutch_James’ latest canvassing of ‘the crowd’.

Top Marx has been named community writer of December following this week’s vote. A £20 Amazon voucher is on his way to him.

Don’t forget, if you’ve got some analysis, scout reports or features brewing, be sure to visit our community section to submit your article.

The Hottest Topics

The community’s attacking line-ups are in flux, according to our Hot Topic on strikers, as Fantasy managers eagerly await third-forward prospects to emerge in the January transfer window.

Another factor driving the desire to make changes up top is that Sergio Aguero now looks largely rotation-free due to the injury to team-mate Gabriel Jesus.

The Sky Blues striker certainly looks in fine form, says Wet Dream in his discussion on the Argentinian. But Doosra’s latest fixture analysis, as delivered by G-Whizz, advises waiting on transferring him in until after his tricky away match at Liverpool this weekend.

There was evidence that being cautious in the transfer market can reap rewards in our latest Live Hall of Fame update, as one of FPL’s most patient ever managers makes a return to the top three.

However, Mei you shagua warns against being too reticent when making transfers after losing points by sticking with Dele Alli and Leroy Sane over their barren run of games.

Patience may also prove a virtue for those that clung onto Reds winger Mohamed Salah during his recent injury lay-off.

Our discussion on FPL’s transfer market details how the Egyptian, who is set to return to action at Anfield this Sunday, confounded price change predictions by retaining his full 10.1 value over his short break, much to the annoyance of the 649,000 FPL managers who have shipped him out over the last two weeks.

Last season’s FPL winner Ben Crabtree is another not overly pleased by Salah, with his Liverpool player ban proving far less successful this time around thanks to the African Player of the Year’s relentless scoring form. Following Ben’s latest musings on his season,  FPL Virgin sparked a discussion on whether this former champion should rethink his heart over head policy regarding Liverpool assets.

With the second FPL Wildcard now available, we canvassed the community’s views on which players deserve a place in a revamped side.

Stoke players are unlikely to grace many Wildcard drafts due to a dire run of form that ultimately cost their boss Mark Hughes his job. But with an impending change of management and a strong run of fixtures, we pondered whether Potters assets may just be worth looking at.

Chelsea and Arsenal also have strong schedules, but with patchy form for some of their key players the community is also reluctant to invest heavily according to our Hot Topic on their players.

Finally, eagle-eyed Scoutcast viewers spotted a moment of magic in this week’s show involving a glass of water travelling 150 miles across four English counties within a second.

To view all our discussions please visit our Hot Topics page.

The Members’ Tables

There’s some surprising names to cherry pick in my latest goals imminent table this week, while those in search of a striker are advised to check out Doosra’s latest Deadly Assassins standings.

If you’re a member and are yet to get to grips with the custom statistics tables, you can view this movie for an explanation of how they work. Also, remember to tag them so that people can find the tables with ease.

The Community Tournaments

My Pretty Pony is on the look-out for at least six other community regulars to take part in the inaugural FFScout charity football event. Some 16 Fantasy managers have already signed up for the event, which takes place on February 24.

Elsewhere, Speedyboyz dropped by with the latest from the Community Watch tournament, which in Matchweek 15 features a number of key battles at the top and bottom of the table.

If you are running a community tournament and would like the latest scores included in future Community Round-Ups, please email us a summary of the current leaders and a link to your league, spreadsheet or head-to-head competition, at jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

For those who used the free hit last week..

If you make two transfers this week, I guess its for -4 even if you made no transfers the week before the free hit chip was used?

Yep, seems like the FT chip resets the 2ft you may have to just one. Saw a chap was pretty peeved off last week about his 2 FT he had when he played the chip for DGW.

I suppose there is an argument to say that the team should be left Exactly as it was the previous week including transfers.
Oh well. I really dont mind, after all, you've just had the opportunity the change your entire team.

Son has Southampton next week and has scored 12pts more than KDB last 8 since getting good minutes.

I'm saving FT and if Arnie not striker again him to Albrighton + DCL/Depoitre to Aguero

When will Hazard stop beeing suggested as an option in Scout Squad...almost every single week...he is overpriced, overrated and offers 0 fantasy value. Can score only random penalty from time to time. When will they finally realize this I wonder.

    (B) Long (cry)
    (C) DCL (tot)

BAC not that it really matters, as RLC and Long both look injured.
Waw even DCL may not get much play time if Tosun is sent to the forward line.

Would be better, Transfer out these 3 in which order

But long is nice to have as a 5th defender if you have either mee or tark, as he covers for the other 2 CB's this week he may play for tarkowski.

Hola a los es'nacks de Pedro.
I'd be inclined to go Murray. The old boy has some nice fixtures coming. But I just read somewhere that Brighton are after another striker in this window to give Murray a rest here and there.

He's not really a defensive minded player though, dribbles forward a lot, looks to play people in behind and chips in with a few goals.

If played in one of the 2 positions in front of cdm for Liverpool I think he could get decent returns

happy days. Now we ALL need Lingard to keep his form going.
On paper he's been epic. Scores tons more points that some of the very big hitters.
Weirdly his price tag and the fact he was kind of an unknown until now has been putingt a lot of people off until now.
If he was priced at 8, 9 bracket starngely i think he's of been more popular. And captain material!

Agreed. Mkhi looked awesome early this season but just couldn't keep up the form.

Hopefully Lingard can keep up the starts- a nailed, sub-6.5m Man U mid playing in the no10 role is about as good as it gets for FPL (in a similar category as a ~7.0m Chelsea defender playing as striker).

I've given him the (vc), but it is funny how price plays a factor into captain choices- we've seen it with Salah for much of the season when he was in the low-mid 9.0's.

    Pope Adrian
    Otamendi Christensen Mee Dunk Kabasele

    Kane Aguero Quaner

    A) Roll FT
    B) Alli > Lingard
    C) Alli and Kabasele > Lingard and Alonso for -4

I was going to do nothing but I listened to the scout cast today and it’s so tempting!

i think spurs have a great couple of fixtures.
Maybe not the time yet to transfer, spurs mids out.
C looks like the nicer pick. Maybe wait until next week and pull the trigger on that for a free

Robertson has played very well. He'll share minutes at best. Might even be second choice

Rotation. Robbo been good, they'll switch in between cup games and CL.

TAA worth getting as a 5th if the rotation starts to follow a good pattern for him? Got done the first time with him and Gomez but at 4.2 if the latter gets CL...

I would get TAA if rest of team is solid and play easy fixtures and let auto sub do its work

Is smalling worth a punt this week for maguire (ft) if i have either dunk (wba a) or masuaku (hud a) as cover off the bench?

Have just enough cash to get jones but would prefer to bank that .4 if i can

No. I have him but don't expect him to start (see team news for explanation).

Dunk is almost first choice def for me this week.

I'm reasonably sure Mourinho is not a big fan of Smalling. If you want certainty you get Jones or don't bother

Thanks for that. Ill hold off transfer i think

Alonso (lei h), dunk (wba a), masuaku (hud a) sufficient defensive cover this week?

Got to have some Burnley defensive cover with their collective ownership, so Pope in nets (Adrian benched). Currently have Masuaku starting ahead of Dunk and Mee due to fixture + attacking threat, right decision?

Dunk better CS potential and attacking threat. Masuaku has no attacking threat. It's a myth

One of those all flash with no end product players? Have only watched him in the Spurs match so yet to get a good picture of his attacking potential.

It might be better to double on Burnley. Would have Masuaku slightly ahead of Dunk though. The way you have it noe looks the safe option TBF.

Not sure Palace is the type of fixture to double up on given their home form. Burnley are resilient but I wouldn't be surprised if Palace score, cheers

If they're over -100 then typically, they should.

      looks like he'll drop.
I just had a look at the list view on transfer page.
I'm ok to absorb a drop. Bought him for 5.2, now at 5.5.
If you are going to loose selling value on him, now seems the moment to sell him on.
Murray at 5., i think, looks like he has some nice fixtures incoming.
