World Cup Fantasy managers will have to respond quickly to the emerging trends in Russia, as they prepare their transfers ahead of the Gameround 2 deadline on Tuesday.

We’ve taken our first look at the Opta World Cup data, which is exclusively available to members after the completion of each match.

Our analysis covers all fixtures contested in Groups A-F, with a scrutiny of Group G and H to follow before the second set of group matches commence.

Not surprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo (£12.0m) has been at the heart of the transfer market in recent days following his 16-point haul in Portugal’s opening fixture: since Friday night, his ownership has doubled.

Elsewhere, there appears to be a strong case to load up on Uruguay players ahead of their match with Saudi Arabia, while the underlying statistics should provide some consolation to owners of Lionel Messi and Neymar following the £12.0m-rated forwards’ opening-match blanks.

Thanks, that's the one I had checked. How can you see how many points Jia had? (as well as our opponents?)

So looks like next round is kind of a must-win for us - tempting to play bench boost even though it's definitely not the correct strategy long-term! 😀

I wouldn't. Having looked at who we're playing, I think we have a fair shout of a win. Just keep an eye on Jia. I was very relieved to see he changed his captain today, it had been stuck on Cavani's two points.

If you give me a couple of mins, I'll let you know what our next opponents have scored so far.

                    45 +3 players, 50 +1 and 50 +1

I suspect it'll be a close run thing next round.

Indeed - what kind of moves are you thinking? Personally, I want rid of Ziyech and Al-Dawsari. I really want to wildcard in order to get some more players I want (Isco and Costa for instance) but I'm holding for the knockouts.

    Suarez, Lukaku, Sterling
    Eriksen, James, Uribe
    Varela, Trippier, Meunier, Sabaly
    Muslera

El Kajoui, Granqvist, Ziyach, Al Dawarsi

I've already tranferred out Pavard for Varela. Sterling for Costa proper for a 4pt hit and hold on to my Wild Card?

Save WC and just drop Belhanda or Pavard?

    Pickford (Uzoho)
    Meunier Danilo Varela (Pavard* Sabaly)
    Muller James Eriksen Belhanda* (Al-Dawsari)
    Lukaku Jesus Mbappe

Thanks. Congrats on Fulham being back too - looking forward to the derby.

I will probably sleep on some moves and contemplate your suggestions. Tempted by a -4 to maybe bring in Cavani at the expense of Jesus and Muller.

I have very similar team, your 3 starting defenders plus Ziyach + Pavard and same front 3...
      Currently contemplating a -4
Ziyach + either Jesus or Mbappe out for Layun + Suarez.
I would definitely be thinking about the Wildcard to gain maximum points from round 2 if I were you though. Kane, Costa, Ronaldo, Suarez, Cavani all necessities

WC definitely interesting, but worried to use it right now. Used BB for Round 1 too. The -4 for a Cavani is tempting. Jesus/Mbappe to Costa straight up too.

I will probably run the WC.

    GK: Ochoa, Uzoho
Def: Danilo, Dalsgaard, Advincula, Meunier, Akanji
Mid: Lingard, Isco, Countinho, Layun, Gazinksy
    Atk: Ronaldo, Costa, Lukaku

    Thougts?

    Sommer, Uzoho

Pretty sure I'm settled on this WC. I think I'm going to risk having no goalkeeper rotation. Not ideal but I'm really confident in the Swiss defence. Thoughts?

I think it could easily backfire, especially for a hit. You are removing 2 high potential players with good fixtures for one higher potential player and one low potential player.

Pavard has the risk of being dropped or playing against a really attacking side that could cause France problems. Australia seem to be less attacking, could be a higher chance of Dalsgaard CS so yay.

He started because Sidibe was out, but Sidibe played for the under 19s (I think), so he looks to be fit again (though he was at fault for one of the goals). It looked like Pavard's place to lose, at least for one more match, but Pavard, himself, had a poor game, with Mark Lawrenson commenting the entrie match about how uncomfortable he looked on the ball and his inability to pass the ball forward.

Apologies if any of this information is incorrect. 🙂

Tricky. I would say D or E so you have a definite starter, but I think the potential for greater return could come from C, and take the risk with Pavard.

        • 9 Years

Serious question and not about substitutes or 4.5m defenders...

How were Brasil? Major disappointment and bow out soon and face a backlash at home? Still a tournament winning threat? Didn't see match.

Own Willian and Neymar. Plenty of money can be spread around there if needed.

    Thanks

Much like a several teams this tournament, they started well and looked like they could take the tournament by storm, but then they sort of fizzled out pretty quickly. To be fair, the Swiss were very solid defensively, so I'm pretty happy with my Danilo, Willian and Coutinho trio. Good value

    2. studge15
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 6 months ago

They were below average. Not enough to send them home early, not enough to convince they could win the tournament. They'll get through the group, Costa Rica are awful and they should get a draw with Serbia at a minimum. Coutinho stands out for the goal but other than that it was a dull match.

      1. Deulofail
        • 9 Years

Costa Rica played well against Serbia, though. Perhaps better in defence than attack, but Serbia created quite a few (near-)chances and only managed to score one. Wouldn't write them off entirely 🙂

Mostly down to wastefulness of Mitrovic and top keeping from Navas. Brazil will create chances against them and I back Jesus/Firmino to be more clinical than Costa Rica. But hey it's the World Cup, anything can happen I guess. Just ask the Mexicans

Not sure. According to one post I saw, he wasn't part of the "training team" (yesterday?). So it depends how much you read into bib theory.

Since they are playing KSA, I feel like he could be given another chance to grow into the tournament. But if not, he could still produce from the bench. Hopeful thinking, perhaps 😀
