A tenth of World Cup Fantasy managers will be hoping their Gameround 2 purchase of Diego Costa (£9.0m) will pay off when Spain play Iran tonight.

The Atletico Madrid striker scored twice in the 3-3 draw with Portugal in Gameround 1, having largely been overlooked.

He was in just one percent of squads for that match but earned 94,000+ new owners after his brace, only Ronaldo picked up more (132,000+). His ownership now stands at 11.4%.

Sergio Ramos (£6.5m) is the most popular player in this fixture, though. Iran are not expected to trouble the Spanish defence, having registered nine shots in their win over Morocco.

Furthermore, Ramos is believed to be Spain’s penalty taker and with VAR awarding more spot-kicks than we’re used to at World Cups, goals are hardly unlikely from the Real Madrid man.

David De Gea (£6.5m) has suffered a drop-off in owners since conceding three goals to Ronaldo. He went into Spain’s opening match with the backing of 21% of World Cup Fantasy but that has decreased to 15.5% for Gameround 2.

Iran are not expected to offer much threat to Spain, with Fantasy managers largely agreeing with that prediction.

Every single one of their players has below two percent ownership on McDonald’s FIFA World Cup Fantasy.

Starting Line-ups

SPAIN XI (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Alba, Ramos, Pique, Carvajal; Iniesta, Busquets; Vazquez, Isco, D Silva; Costa

IRAN XI (4-2-3-1): Beiranvand; Hajsafi, Pouraliganji, Hosseini, Ramin; Ezatolahi, Omid; Amiri, Mehdi, Karim; Sardar

World Cup Data

We’re delighted to offer World Cup data as an early addition to our regular season offering to help those playing Fantasy games over the summer.

We’ve secured Opta data, not only for the tournament itself, which begins on June 14 but also from the Qualifying Rounds for Europe and South America and for international friendlies involving the participating nations. This includes all the matches played right up to the tournament kick-off.

Just to stress, this World Cup offering comes packaged with the regular Fantasy Football Scout membership.

Check out this new trailer previewing the World Cup content below…

    Crikey...good stuff...

I don't like defensive football but Iran doing it against Spain is not the same as Uruguay doing it against Saudi Arabia....

Putting their bodies on the line, great heart and ability, but terribly boring. Spain need to mix it up a bit, but seem to lack pace themselves to cut through the 10 man defence.

How do you expect Russia vs. Uruguay to go? Will Russia be attacking, playing into the hands of Uruguay's counter-attacking style? Or will it be as boring as the other two Uruguay games?

    It's a bit like Westworld.
You need to work out what famous song that their parping on their Vuvazelas.

I'll start it, the one just after kick-off was Bohemian Rhapsody I'm pretty sure although one corner of the ground was parping Teen spirit which made it sound a bit trumpety.

Anyone seen the analysis done by someone on twitter suggesting that Russia have put in by far the most average miles run with, I understand, one of the oldest teams? It will be very interesting to see if this continues by the end of the group stage, given Russia's history with doping.

    1. Klopptomist Scott Jelly

I thought this, but they're not miles ahead, and Egypt are high up so I wonder if it's just the type of game Rus play, coupled with the home boost/adrenaline of winning

Or will Belgium finally become the sum of it's parts ?

    1. diesel001

Belgium need to get rid of Martinez. You can see KDB and Hazard are doing what they want and not what Martinez tells them.

all of Belgium's players thrive over their club team's systems and other players

KDB (arguably the best attacking midfielder in the world), is being made to play a deeper role and put outside of his comfort zone by not being able to create as much

the back five looks secure enough, although I'm not sure if Carrasco particularly likes playing LWB

the system fits Lukaku (and maybe Hazard too) well though as you can see by his goalscoring record

for the rest, I'm either not sure or don't know the players well enough
