World Cup dark horses Croatia take on Denmark in Nizhny Novgorod in this evening’s last-16 tie, a match which features the player who has been bought by more Fantasy managers than anyone else since the group stage ended.

Luka Modric (£9.1m) was purchased by more than 400,000 McDonald’s FIFA managers ahead of Saturday afternoon’s deadline and is now owned by 36.2% of Fantasy bosses.

The Real Madrid midfielder has two goals to his name already and is on spot-kick and corner-taking duties for his country. Modric has also created six chances for his team-mates and fired in 12 crosses in his three appearances to date.

Dejan Lovren‘s (£5.1m) ownership has crept past the 20% mark, while goalkeeper Daniel Subasic (£5.6m), who kept clean sheets in both of his group stage appearances, is in 9.5% of McDonald’s FIFA squads.

No Denmark player has a double-digit ownership, meanwhile. Kasper Schmeichel (£5.1m), who also registered two shut-outs in the group stage and delivered save points in all three of his appearances in this tournament, is the Danes’ most popular player from a Fantasy perspective: 9.8% of McDonald’s FIFA managers own the Leicester City goalkeeper.

With a goal and an assist to his name already, Christian Eriksen (£9.1m) finds himself in 8.2% of Fantasy squads. No Denmark player has had more shots on goal at this year’s World Cup than the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder (nine).

Budget defender Jonas Knudsen (£4.0m), owned by 2.8% of Fantasy managers, is a surprise inclusion in Denmark’s starting XI.

Russia’s victory over Spain in this afternoon’s last-16 tie is significant to this match, too: whoever triumphs this evening will take on the host nation in the quarter-finals next Saturday night.

Croatia XI (4-2-3-1): Subasic; Vrsaljko, Vida, Lovren, Strinic; Brozovic, Rakitic; Rebic, Modric, Perisic; Mandzukic

Denmark XI (5-4-1): Schmeichel; Dalsgaard, Zanka, Kjaer, Christensen, Knudsen; Delaney, Eriksen, Braithwaite, Poulsen; Cornelius

        BB wasted on 0+ 0 +1 + 1 😆

52 pts. All defenders got 1pt. Bit of a waste.

What's worse is that I did it to surprise my rival, who also did it to surprise me.

Hey that's actually a good score! I got 42 (with BB 2+1-1-1 on the bench) and still rose from 5 to 3.5k

Doubt your old team was close to that, specially with a 8 point hit.

Just calculated I might have gained around 21 after hits, so yeah not too bad at all!

Tried to switch Ben Mustapha and Cedric for Gallese and Granqvist 10 seconds after the deadline, which would have made me satisfied with the WC had that gone through 🙂 glad you're happy with yours

Why don't they go to penalties straight after the 90 minutes. One out of 16 knockout matches may have a goal in ET. Not worth all the time wasted and boredom all around.

They would rather sort it out in extra time but don't want to give away a big chance.

That's obviously exaggeration, but the number of matches that finish in ET to those that finish with penalties is way too low.

It may by unpopular but I agree. Also if teams knew its straight to pen might take more risks in the match, match may be more open. If its still tight, no boring extra time.

The rule was good when teams were more inclined to attack. With the park the bus age we're in, the rule needs changing. We've had utter garbage in the 45 minutes of ET so far.

I don't disagree with that, but they are far and few between. Most matches in the world cups or even the CL knockout stages for that matter just play for penalties once ET starts.

Depends on how many players get knocked out this round. If you can field 11 next round without taking hits you can wait, just remember we get 5 transfers next round.

isn't it 3 for the QF?

The pool of players gets smaller and smaller, may as well use it in QF to have some diffs. Remember everyone gets 5 transfers before Semis and then 5 again for final/3rd place match.

Golden goal would make extra time so much better.

True, and maybe it would be worse if they were even more afraid of losing.

The choice for those who care more about pretty clothing than football. E.g. me when I was 8.

I like Kasper Schmeichels attitude. Energizing the team.

I’m sure it’s easy when he’s got nothing to do 😛

      Still good on him though.

Sisto against tired legs could be very dangerous for Croatia.

Croatia need to put their wide players higher up the pitch and bluff the Danish full backs. Knudsen and Dalsgaard are too slow to push forward and will be afraid of getting caught out.
