A host of French attacking players rounded off a successful World Cup final performance by rewarding their Fantasy managers one last time.

Owners of Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe and Paul Pogba were particularly grateful as the summer Fantasy game came to a close.

We’ve got all the goals, assists and talking points from the 2018 World Cup final.

FRANCE 4-2 CROATIA

TOP-SCORING PLAYERS:

  • Paul Pogba (£8.8m) – 7 points
  • Antoine Griezmann (£10.1m) – 6 points
  • Kylian Mbappe (£9.2m) – 6 points
  • Ivan Perisic (£8.5m) – 6 points
  • Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m) – 4 points
  • Domagoj Vida (£5.5m) – 3 points
  • Lucas Hernandez (£5.0m) – 3 points

Paul Pogba (£8.8m) got his first Fantasy returns of the World Cup in the most important match of all, and finished the final as the match’s top-scoring player, with seven points.

His goal was the third for France as they were crowned champions by blowing Croatia in a 4-2 win.

The first goal of the match was for the French, but it was Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic (£8.9m) who put it into the net. Antoine Griezmann’s (£10.1m) free-kick from deep got the final touch from the Juventus forward, taking away any possibility of attacking returns.

Ivan Perisic (£8.5m) popped up with his second goal in as many World Cup matches a few minutes later to level the tie. Domagoj Vida (£5.5m) flicked the ball onto him from inside the box, he took a touch away from the defender and then struck it back across goal into the far corner.

France were in front again in 38th minute, though. A lengthy VAR review saw Perisic punished for a handball in the penalty area, allowing Griezmann to get his goal from the spot and make it 2-1 at half-time.

Pogba’s goal came just shy of the hour-mark after a period of Croatian pressure. Griezmann teed him up on the edge of the box, his initial shot blocked before his secondary effort flew into the far corner of Danijel Subasic’s (£5.5m) net.

Just six minutes later Kylian Mbappe (£9.2m) became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since Pele in 1958. The ball came into him from Lucas Hernandez (£5.0m) and his fancy footwork on the edge of the penalty area wrong-footed both Vida and Subasic, allowing him to blast home from distance.

Just as it looked as if the match was over as a contest, France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (£5.9m) gifted a goal to Croatia, his attempts to dribble round Mandzukic foiled by a successful tackle from the striker. His touch was enough to send the ball into the net.

France held out for the result in the end to become the sixth team in history to win the World Cup twice.

Elsewhere, England striker Harry Kane (£11.2m) finished the tournament as the overall top-scoring player on World Cup Fantasy with 40 points. Griezmann was just behind him on 38, with Raphael Varane (£6.1m) registering 34.

Andreas Granqvist (£5.2m) proved the most valuable player coming in at 5.9 points per million, Benjamin Pavard (£4.6m) recording 5.8 and Varane 5.5.

FRANCE XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Hernandez, Umtiti, Varane, Pavard; Kante (N’Zonzi 55’), Pogba; Matuidi (Tolisso 73’), Griezmann, Mbappe; Giroud (Fekir 81’).

CROATIA XI (4-1-4-1): Subasic; Strinic (Pjaca 81’), Vida, Lovren, Vrsaljko; Brozovic; Perisic, Rakitic, Modric, Rebic (Kramaric 71’); Mandzukic.

Surely Martial will be a strong differential for the first few gameweeks- could possibly even play striker until Lukaku is back. I fancy Sanchez to play slightly deeper and not as a false nine.

Yes. I think Clyne will start the season and TAA to be eased in. Gomez is fit as well.

TAA is going to be Liverpool's long term right back, but his minutes needs to be managed - he played too much last year and we saw him tire out towards the end of the season.

Too much invested in GKs. 4 players potentially won’t play GW1 (TAA, Stones, Pogba, Lukaku). I’d switch out one of the BUR defenders for a 4.5.

    Would you change anything here:

    Ederson - 4.0
    TAA - Kolasinac - Alonso - Schelotto - Zanka
    Sane - Ramsey - Martial - Cairney - Masuaku
    Aguero - Auba - Firmino

Martial great shout for first 2/3 gameweek.
      Attack is awesome.
TAA will likely rotate, Kola is a gamble and Alonso's position unknown under Sarri, so I'd say your defence needs work.

19k finish in WC. Not great as I was at 1.3k going into the semis! Only captain fail in the whole tournament! Rom then Kane.

Plus messed up on Max Cap as used it in round three gaining two points from Cavani to Kasper, the final was the one as a Meunier owner. Hey ho it was good fun!

Harry Kane wants to play in the opening Premier League match away at Newcastle United and end his August goalscoring jinx.

Kane: "I want to be playing in four weeks time. We will see. We will have to talk to the gaffer at Spurs. It will be a couple of weeks off. The most important thing is mentally [to be ready]. Physically, this has been our pre-season."

"We tick over and are not going to just do nothing for two weeks. We will ease our way into it. It is the world we live in and if we want to be fit for the first game we have to keep on top of it. Try and rest mentally as much as possible."

People are thinking very short Team and treating this like a one week wildcard. Pick a starting 15. Even Ederson is a huge risk according to the media

Then from weeks 2 and 3 everything will be normal again and we wildcard shortly after.

If you get 11 out you can smile. But don’t overthink it.

Both played the maximum possible games, Mourinho said his players need 3 weeks before even thinking about football. City don't need de Bruyne early on, he was already knackered last season to the extent he considered withdrawing from the World Cup. I wouldn't be so sure.

From now not from the start of the season
            Not 3 gameweeks

To even think about football. There's training after that, getting back in fitness, getting ready mentally, so on.

A non playing pricey player is to be avoided in my opinion, but it could work out IF they do start playing GW3 onwards. Bit risky.

Kdb will not start gw 1
But how much do we expect him to do if he would start?
Maybe 2/3 points which I gain by my bench players
And pogba may even start gw 1
He is too important for utd

There's a risk you'll lose value on the too, particularly if they miss 2 weeks

Feels like the midfielders are pretty week, or is that very naive?

Midfielders get you the most points. Some good options but uncertainty about who’s playing or WC will mean early wildcards for most

    Thoughts on this draft?

    Ederson - Speroni
    Bailly - Matip - Tomkins - Daniels - Bednarek
    Mane - Willian - Ramsey - Richarlison - Stephens
    Aguero - Auba - Firmino

Do u think willian starts from gw1? If so and hazard leaves he could be great at 7.5

I guess I need to look closer on that and the transfermarket status in august. But I think he is the best player you can get for 7.5 this year.

Matip's a huge rotation candidate - you'll need an exit plan for him. Not sure of his price (assume 5.0?) but personally would go with Tarko/Mee in that bracket to start the season.

Yeah I know. Just for the first GW’s when he isn’t rotation risked because of Lovrens WC. Thanks for the reply.

Wouldn't be surprised if Gomez takes that spot initially. We view him ultimately as a CB so I reckon we'll go with Clyne-Gomez-VVD-Robbo.

With big name players likely to miss gw1 and even gw2, is an early wildcard the way to go this year?

I can’t see any other way. Hopefully people will be stubborn and not play it early for us to benefit

Am considering planning for it in advance, after gw 3 or maybe 4 that way can pick a short term team, as it already looking very likely we will all have to play it anyway when the world cup players return, and there so many unknowns this season with all the new managers and players, with the early deadline

        I have a similar plan.
Who are you considering as short term punts?

    RMT

    Ederson, 4.0
    Robertson, Bailly, Tomkins, Bennet, Peltier
    Salah, Mahrez, Deulofeu, Walcott/Jota, 4.5
    Kane, Firmino, Wilson

    1. Astronautovic
      • 9 Years

2 4.0 defenders is a bad idea in my opinion.
I like the rest. Walcott and jota should both be great options for this price. I like ibe more than deulofeu.
It's hard to decide between wilson and king imo.

Yes I know about 2x4.0 def but im gamble both of them will play.

Im not sure about Ibe firstly because I have Wilson and secondly minutes play times.

At 6.5 price, I kind of prefers Wood actually but my budget strictly on 6.0

Yeah if u go with a bournemouth forward ibe isn't an option. Maybe mitrovic if he signs could be 6.0. Or ings would be interesting at 5.5

Not a lot of love for the Watford defence on here. Manager seems to set up the team pretty defensively and their opening fixtures aren't too bad. Most starters available at 4.5. Any takers?

i quite like kiko femenia and holebas however holebas gets a yellow almost every game so it would be just kiko for me but he's not in my team for now

Had Kiko/Holebas in initial drafts but then Watford went and signed a couple defenders so now I have no idea who will start out of the Watford backline!

Yep, I'm keen on a Watford defender or Foster. Won a lot of home matches 1-0 under Gracia. Will just have to wait for the final pre-season game to have a firm idea on who is the most secure starter.
