Preparations for the 2018/19 Fantasy Premier League season went into overdrive this week as our community said goodbye to the World Cup.

While those who won their McDonald’s World Cup Fantasy leagues celebrated, we started looking in more detail at the upcoming domestic season.

We’ve got all the latest Community Articles, discussion topics, tables, and tournaments from the last seven days.

Community Articles

Toberlone52 produced an article on the interesting strategy of covering price points as opposed to teams in the early part of the season to enable greater movement in the transfer market.

The rather unfortunate Deulofail wrote a piece on Liverpool goalkeeper Danny Ward (£4.5m) when it looked like he might get a shot at the number one jersey at Anfield, analysing who he could rotate best with. Sadly for Deulofail the shot stopper has now signed for Leicester and Alisson has joined Jurgen Klopp’s charges.

The Hottest Topics

With the Premier League pre-season well underway, our community has been discussing how much we can read into the friendly fixtures which take place over the summer. Loftus-Queef reminded us of Alex Iwobi’s excellent form in non-competitive matches last year before failing to deliver on his promise, while TheDonald discussed how much the Community Shield can teach us.

The unknown quanitities of players new to the Premier League was another key talking point as the off-season rolls on. ZoumasBloomers asked the community which new options looked the most exciting and Norman Conquest issued a warning about those who have come up from the Championship.

As Fantasy managers get further into their plans for the new FPL season, several of you looked at the value of some important players. Olivier Bernards Watch divided points-per-match from last season against new price points to help factor in assets who only played part of 2017/18, while Chelsea Harbour revealed his thoughts on those who have been under and overpriced by the 2018/19 player costs.

The big changes news at Manchester United and Chelsea shaped our debates this week too. We talked up Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez after Jose Mourinho said they would start the season up front and AEK started a conversation about what Maurizio Sarri will change at Chelsea.

MikeHarbrw identified which teams are capable of scoring three or more goals in matches this season.

From more of a house-keeping perspective, we confirmed that we’ve solved problems relating to staying logged in and announced that our Watchlist is now live, and being updated along with the Rate My Team tool and our projections.

Lastly, there was some good discussion over who to hand the captaincy to in the World Cup final, thanks to Legomané.

Community Tables

The devil is in the details when it comes to FPL and our community members have been working hard on creating tables to help us improve our value picks for 2018/19.

FPL Virgin has created a comparison of forwards priced below £7.0m, sorted by shots in the box, to see who could be the most effective third striker this season.

vijayc has looked at mid-price midfielders to see which of the options below £9.0m look set to score the most goals in 2018/19.

Finally, dnglos is on the lookout for clean sheets, sorting last season’s defensive records by goal attempts allowed in the box.

Community Tournaments

TorresMagicâ„¢ has launched his sixth annual Last Man Standing competition this week, where a portion of FPL managers in the mini-league are eliminated each Gameweek. Find details of how to join HERE.

Meanwhile, our World Cup Fantasy mini-leagues came to a close this week after Sunday’s final and we can confirm the following winners.

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

is there any point of really bothering with the RMTs at this point?

I'll just wait for a few hours before the season's first game and copy the template that will be hot at that time. Easier than the numerous RMTs which keep changing after a few hours.

Yes. Constructive feedback is good and can highlight flaws in your team and method(s). Although most feedback comes down to opinion, its still nice to be able to bounce ideas off of one another.

Today's team, may change before deadline..

    Ederson (4.0)
    Robertson - Coleman - Shaw (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah - Eriksen - Walcott - Mkhi - Costa
    Aguero - Firmino (4.5)

Only works if the 4.0 defenders are secure..

My first draft this season, I'm starting with 5-3-2 formation so feeling a bit risky, but hopefully it could pay off!

    Ederson (Stekelenburg)
    Bailly - Coleman - Robertson - PVA - Davies
Salah - Siggy - Martial (Masuaku, Stephens)
    Aguero - Firmino (Kamara)

Martial, Bailly and Davies could become Ramsey,Bellerin/Monreal and Mendy after 2 - 3 weeks...

I like it. Depending on pre-season, you might want to just start with Mendy instead of Bavies. Excellent fixtures v many road matches.

Anyone’s guess at this point which of the two will rotate more. Bavies has greater talent to compete against for position. But Mendy coming back from major knee injury.

Anyone know if there is a way to get the fantasy stats on the members tables? I'd like to get cost (this season) and points (last season) alongside the opta stats but I don't see them in the filter?

I’m hoping we can get a Pogba, KDB, Salah midfield on the go early doors, serious points right there, especially if partnered with another starting city mid, maybe Sané for explosiveness, or Silva for consistency. Who needs forwards with those in midfield

I wouldn’t save more than 0.5 - 1. 2 is too much. Not using that much money, you’ll have to nail all of your picks to avoid a situation where you won’t knee jerk. That’s highly unlikely.

So when you want to tweak after coming up short you’ll have too much MITB, facilitating an overreaction (chasing points) which you’ll kick yourself later for.

Just personal preference on the 4.5s ... Tomkins, Doherty both stand out for me. Watch pre-season carefully, but the feeling is Silva has Holgate down to start alongside Keane, but we'll quite possiby buy another CB anyway.

Mane has more improvement on last season. But there is a dearth of strikers to pick. Tricky

If you could have the choice of any 4.5 defender to keep long-term who would it be and why?

Everton when we get more information on the defensive situation.. They currently have to play one of their 4.5's unless they sign someone during this transfer window

I have made this draft based on the information I have so far. I will most likely make some alterations before deadline, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on the team. There a quite a few punts in there, that I might have to transfer out at some point, but I think there are plenty options in the same pricebacket for each of those players, to make it work, without committing to an early wildcard.

    4-4-2:
    Begovic (Ryan)
Bailey - Shaw - Clyne - Keane (Mendy)
Salah - Mahrez - Martial - Deulofeu (Stephens)
    Aguero - Firmino (Kamara)

    Thought on this team?

I agree.. He is just there for the clean sheets and good rotation with Watford... But he is their only nailed player in that pricebracket

There won't be clean sheets if he's playing, that's the point. Why do you think even Samuele il Lardo couldn't get them to stop conceding goals? Until they sign a CB I'm steering clear.

Evertonian here, and I completely agree. Not going anywhere near our defence. Loads of better options out there.

Too many punts for me, you'll need transfers to get rid of Shaw, Clyne, Martial and possibly Mendy too.

I think Shaw, Clyne, Mahrez and Martial all have something to fight for.

Mendy should be nailed! If it doesn't work out though, I will wildcard, like most people willl within the first five gameweeks

That's exactly my point. They are all fighting for their place in the team which means they will not be starting every game when all the players are back from the World Cup.

    Cheap keeper edition:

    Bego / Boruc
    Shaw - Robertson - Coleman (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah - D. Silva - Jota - Mkhi (4.5)
    Aguero - Firmino - Tosun

The Aub / Kun decision really feels like the biggest one at the moment. I don't feel convinced having the two of them is worth unbalancing an entire squad for. Aub has really horrible fixtures to start with, but Kun has Jesus trying to nose in on his minutes. Who are you going for?

Ive found good balance with both imo. I mean yeah downgrading one to Firm would be nice but then you have double Pool attack.

I believe Aguero is essential coverage for the best time in league and Auba is just a very special talent who for FPL is as good as it can get.

Yeah I feel it is. Strong defence but then a more budget midfield.

Using players like Siggy carney. Stephens etc

I’ve had drafts with both, either/or and none (all with Salah)... and at the minute it’s the none option that’s winning out.

Going with two city mids and sitting back to see how arsenal perform before jumping in on investing in them scoring loads of goals.

Preseason signs are good of course, as well as Auba’s form from end of last year, and his undoubted quality.

But you just don’t know how they’ll do with Emery in charge, it’s not easy for a new manager to come in& take a club like arsenal to be scoring 2 or 3 goals week in week out.

Agreed actually. I am currently on Aubameyang, but I feel like a 5 goal haul is imminent against Hudders for Aguero GW 2. If we get past that safely, I think Auba will outdo him.

But to be honest, those going with both + Salah could be the big winners

I tried but the closest I could bare to get was Salah, Aguero and Lacazette

Just tried a Kun, Salah + Auba team. It just decimates it.

Yeah Laca could easily match Auba... I can’t remeber there ever being this many options going into a season before.

And that’s without even seriously considering a single spurs or Chelsea player, something tells me there will be unprecedented ripping up of teams over the first 3-4 gameweeks.

Austin is very interesting, seems like he should be at least 6.5 if not 7.

If you had a fully fit and nailed Austin, Zaha, Arnie, Tosun - I would go Austin every time even if they were all 7.0, let alone at 6.0

It’s just the “fully fit” and “ nailed” that always seem to go against him lol

Using the RMT tool for the first time. Why would a player with a lower projected score be in the starting team over another player with a higher projected score for that gameweek
