Some Fantasy Premier League managers may have let England fever take over a little too much in their preparations for the new season this summer.

That’s because the ownership levels of Jordan Pickford (£5.0m), Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) and Harry Maguire (£5.5m), stand-out performers at the World Cup, have surged in the last two weeks.

Such trust may prove to be misplaced as the trio are currently in danger of missing Gameweek 1 after returning to training later than their respective team-mates.

Trippier (24.8 percent) and Maguire (21.2) are now the two most popular defenders in FPL after just two weeks of the game being open.

The pair are clearly responsible for the two percent dip in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£5.0m) ownership, which has pushed him from first place to third when it comes to popularity among defenders.

Marcos Alonso (£6.5m) remains on 17 percent despite his role at Chelsea jeopardised by the arrival of Maurizio Sarri.

Jan Bednarek’s spell as the most fashionable £4.0m defender has come to an end, presumably due to Southampton’s signing of Jannik Vestergaard (£5.0m). The new holder of that position is Scott Malone (£4.0m) with 11.1 percent ownership, although he appears to be the second-choice left-back behind Chris Lowë at Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started both of Crystal Palace’s friendlies so far and resides in just 2.6 percent of squads.

Pickford’s rise up the charts may be the reason that David De Gea (£6.0m) has seen his lead at the top of the goalkeeper popularity contest trimmed.

The Spaniard enjoyed 34.6 percent ownership two weeks ago but now sits in just 31.6 of squads. Alternatively, the drop-off may have been caused by Jose Mourinho declaring that he was unlikely to use any World Cup players in the first few weeks of the season.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) remains in second place with 24.7 percent ownership but has lost two percent since our last check.

Just below the now third-place Pickford is Ederson (£5.5m) whose ownership remains stable at 17.4 percent, while Nick Pope (£5.0m) has lost two percent.

In midfield, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) remains comfortably the most popular player on the game, in 46.5 percent of squads.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) is in second place with 27.1 percent ownership with the much cheaper Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) is the third most popular (21.4).

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s (£11.0m) strong start to pre-season, scoring five goals in the first three matches, has him climbing up the forwards charts. He is now in fourth place with 24.2 percent of managers backing him for Gameweek 1, dislodging Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m).

Top two Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) seem to have been the most fashionable sacrifice for managers getting the Arsenal man. Both of them were on roughly 39 percent ownership two weeks ago, they now have 37.8 and 33.6 respectively.

In terms of balance, this is the best I think I've come up with. But I still prefer having Kun and Auba.

    DDG
    Robbo Douglas PVA Mendy
    Mahrez Salah Jota
    Tosun Auba Arnie

    Boruc Hughes Cairney AWB

Can DDG makes as many saves this year as last year or was it just a freaky season for him? A heap of those Utd clean sheets were solely down to him rather than Utd have a tight defence

I hope not. If his saves go down, it could mean United's CSs go down too. Fingers crossed.

anyone think that richarlison is likely to provide better value than ramsey in first part of the season? If so, please try and convince me. i could use the extra dough

Richarlison, Jota, Maddison, Elyounoussi, Sessegnon, Walcott

Many very good 6.5m options this season. I really think at least a couple of the above will be gold. To answer your question, yes I think Richarlison will be better value.

I reckon Alisson is going to be the best keeper to own this season. Liverpool could be incredible defensively.

Which team is the surprise package this year? i.e. the team from outside the top 6 thats in around the top 4 by xmas time?

Im going to say Palace or Wolves, but thats just a gut feeling I have no idea.

Palace finished strongly under Roy. Though it looks like they won't retain RLC and he was a big part of it.
Good team though, top half of the table for sure.

My guy says Wolves too. Rafa could also improve Newcastle - he's done incredible for them so far.

Big spenders West Ham and Everton have good managers so should be up there behind the top 6.

      Yeah - looks great.

Very similar to mine, although I'm probably going Auba from the start.

Bench is stretched a bit thin though - Ramsey to Mhiki to bolster it a bit?

Yeah actually been on Micky until now, Kamara-Sørloth or Chalobah-5.0 looks better.

I'm currently on Sorloth and Chalobah - but would love to squeeze Costa/Hughes in there.

Main difference is I have Douglas and Arnie not Bailly and Wood - but may need to reassess that due to a Douglas' lack of pre-season so far.

An alternative strategy is to upgrade Wan-Bissaka to Bailly/Coleman, and have Costa and Hughes as a rotating 4th midfielder instead of Mhiki.

Reports from training suggest Sarri has been impressed by Barkley and put him through one-on-one sessions for the third creative midfield role (alongside Kante and Jorginho).

For the price that Chelsea paid he is relatively low-risk, in worst case failing to perform and can be passed on, or developing into a good attacking midfielder and giving them another English asset.

In terms of FPL, 6m would be a bargain if he came good...

    1. Piggs Boson

Barkley, Fabregas, and RLC all gunning for that role. Community Shield may give us answers.

In al fairness - 2 matches of 45 minutes, with completely different teams each half. Both teams a mixture of regulars and fodder.

Does anyone know why Doucouré isn't participating in Watford's pre season friendlies guys ?

    Most nailed on 4.0 CBs?
    A) Wan-Bissaka
    B) Bennett
    C) Peltier

You can earn a lot of cash on having two of these. Currently on A and B

      I've got A and C.
      A - started last 3 CPFC friendlies
B - started majority of championship games last season and would have played more if remained injury free
C - lots of competition for his role. Potentially new signing or Saiss could dispose him

    Patricio
    Mendy - Shaw - Robertson
    Eriksen - Richarlison - Ralls - Mane - Salah (c)
    Aguero - Arnautovic

    Stekelenburg - Doherty - Wan-Bissaka - 4.5m

Doherty can be rotated with Ralls depending on who I think will score more. Once the Richarlison move has gone through I think this team will be pretty resistant to an early WC bar a series of freak injuries. Shaw is the only player I could see myself 'planning' to transfer out

I'm on it, was good under Silva when Silva was good, so hopeful for him at Everton

I believe he was quite lucky in the first part of the season. I really think he will fail at Everton...

You might not have a keeper GW1, after that Shaw's a risk as moanriniho doesn't seem to rate him.
Personally don't like Everton as a defensive option
      I like the midfield
How sure are you Austin starts?

Why do u think De Gea won’t play. Keepers don’t need the same level of pre season and they got knocked out early. I agree on Shaw and I think that’s a one - two week punt. I also agree on Austin and will monitor that. Happy to go with coleman
