Some Fantasy Premier League managers may have let England fever take over a little too much in their preparations for the new season this summer.

That’s because the ownership levels of Jordan Pickford (£5.0m), Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) and Harry Maguire (£5.5m), stand-out performers at the World Cup, have surged in the last two weeks.

Such trust may prove to be misplaced as the trio are currently in danger of missing Gameweek 1 after returning to training later than their respective team-mates.

Trippier (24.8 percent) and Maguire (21.2) are now the two most popular defenders in FPL after just two weeks of the game being open.

The pair are clearly responsible for the two percent dip in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£5.0m) ownership, which has pushed him from first place to third when it comes to popularity among defenders.

Marcos Alonso (£6.5m) remains on 17 percent despite his role at Chelsea jeopardised by the arrival of Maurizio Sarri.

Jan Bednarek’s spell as the most fashionable £4.0m defender has come to an end, presumably due to Southampton’s signing of Jannik Vestergaard (£5.0m). The new holder of that position is Scott Malone (£4.0m) with 11.1 percent ownership, although he appears to be the second-choice left-back behind Chris Lowë at Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started both of Crystal Palace’s friendlies so far and resides in just 2.6 percent of squads.

Pickford’s rise up the charts may be the reason that David De Gea (£6.0m) has seen his lead at the top of the goalkeeper popularity contest trimmed.

The Spaniard enjoyed 34.6 percent ownership two weeks ago but now sits in just 31.6 of squads. Alternatively, the drop-off may have been caused by Jose Mourinho declaring that he was unlikely to use any World Cup players in the first few weeks of the season.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) remains in second place with 24.7 percent ownership but has lost two percent since our last check.

Just below the now third-place Pickford is Ederson (£5.5m) whose ownership remains stable at 17.4 percent, while Nick Pope (£5.0m) has lost two percent.

In midfield, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) remains comfortably the most popular player on the game, in 46.5 percent of squads.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) is in second place with 27.1 percent ownership with the much cheaper Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) is the third most popular (21.4).

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s (£11.0m) strong start to pre-season, scoring five goals in the first three matches, has him climbing up the forwards charts. He is now in fourth place with 24.2 percent of managers backing him for Gameweek 1, dislodging Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m).

Top two Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) seem to have been the most fashionable sacrifice for managers getting the Arsenal man. Both of them were on roughly 39 percent ownership two weeks ago, they now have 37.8 and 33.6 respectively.

Guys, Josh King has good fixtures and on pens. Why is no one interested? 6.5 is a good price!

Good punt IMO. He’s rested and Bournemouth are good doing forward they do tend to score more then the teams around them.

    Hi guys.

Anyone care to run the rule over this mob/

    Pickford
    Mendy Robertson Shaw
    Salah Sane Siggi Jota
    Aguero Firmino Kamara

    Stekelenberg Wan-Biss Stephens Peltier

Main bone of contention being Aguero or Aubameyang and what to do with Shaw as and when Young gets back in

    Cheers.

Seen a lot of Jota everywhere, but almost no Maddison. Is there a reason he is being overlooked? He played yesterday, so the flag that he might be injured seems redundant.

Huge purchase and likely to be nailed, fantastic set piece taker on a team that will definitely have some big guys in the box (especially when Maguire returns!), and a creative/10 type player with Vardy in front of him?

Not sure he will be nailed early doors, he's a central player and Leicester have quite a few strikers vying for minutes as a pair up top

Probably a fair point. I guess Iheanacho or Musa could be a problem, although the latter might be gone/wide.

They don't have much else by way of creative players in midfield though, it's all anchormen. Iborra, Silva, Amartey or slightly more mobile N'Didi. If they do go for a second striker, Maddison could hypothetically play ten yards further back.

        Perhaps one for the watchlist.

Yep, if he performs, he'll probably become first choice, but there's few upsides to picking him I feel

Madd will be their main man, takes corners & free kicks.. maybe even pens. I see why ppl like Jota, but I prefer Maddison. 🙂

Very positive about Maddison. I watched the Leicester game yesterday and he was the best player on the pitch. Absolutely a no.10 (although defo on the midfielder-side of the spectrum) and will be an England international by March. He reminds me a bit of Marco Reus. It's just that I don't fancy Leicester generally right now and they're off to Old Trafford on GW1.

Norwich fan here and am pretty confident he can make the step up. Will consider him if hes fit to go but utd away as first fixture means I'll probably wait before bringing him in.

If anyone is wondering what kind of player Jahanbakhsh is, I will give a small profile...

He is a classic winger, right footed on the right wing. But that doesn't mean he can't score a goal. He is a technical dribbler with a decent cross and an outstanding shot. Even as a classic winger he scored 21 goals, which points out he is excellent in positioning, always available for the tap-in. With 12 assists he is always looking for the striker. He made Weghorst (striker AZ) a goalscorer, he earned a transfer to Wolfsburg. Most assists where from trough balls, he has the vision. Most goals where long shots.

For 24 million he must be a starter and I believe he is a good option for the FPL. I rate him above Izquierdo because Janhanbakhsh is a winger who can finish and provide. I hope he is 6.0. But I think he will be 6.5.

    Foster - Fabianski

Yedlin - Pereira - Van Aanholt - TAA - Valencia

    Kenedy - Richarlison - Keita - Martial - Sane

    Zaha - Lacazette - Auba

I have 1.0 ITB that I'm planning to use to insert Pogba in for Martial as soon as he's ready to go. Or I may leave things as they stand and swap TAA with Van Dijk

Then a 7.0 forward of your choice, then, and the same advice. The point is, Gundogan and Doucoure are, at best, illogical picks.

      1 if Pedro is playing
      2 if Gundogan is playing
3 looks like a more safe one at this point

    0.5m itb.

    Foster
    Shaw - Robertson - Mendy
    Lamela - Salah - Mane - Richarlison - Mahrez
    Laca - Zaha

    Fab - Kamara/Quaner - WanBissaka - Bennett

      Salah+mane is an overdo

        Why?

Both produced great returns last year

Yeah, but not sure how the top three will perform with a completely different mid trio.
Salah+firminho or mane+firminho is a safer option in my opinion. Cheers

Newbie here, your inputs/thoughts for this GW1 pick would be appreciated:

    1 Mio left
    Begovic
    Robertson, Cédric, Tomkins, Mendy
    Salah (c), Mahrez, Walcott, Jorginho
    Aguero, Firmino

Bench: Fabianski, Xhaka, Niasse (I have hopes that he'll play), Peltier

I plan on changing Aguero for Aubameyang and probably Mahrez for Bruyne after GW2 maybe

good start! I am not a big fan of walcott...at that price so many better options. I would downgrade Xhaka to Stephens and use the 1.0 to improve Walcott/Begovic

Thank you! I like the Everton fixtures during the first weeks, which is why I put in Walcott. Are Gueye or Davis expected to play?

Jorginho would only be good if FPL had passing or tackling bonus, if you like him look at sky sports fantasy football (if in the right countries)

Thanks! Don't want to start another another game, so it's probably easier just to replace the guy 😉

Would upgrade Jorginho and Begovic, maybe downgrade Aguero

Ok, thank you. I didn't want to spend too much money on goalkeepers, any other 4.5 (playing) goalkeeper you would recommend?

Wouldn’t go with Xhaka...yellow card magnet.

Gerard Deulofeu at the same price may offer a little more value, before the cold weather and/or annual injury. Will certainly be more important post-Richarlason.

Not sure how much can be gleaned from these 45 minutes and then a whole new team matches. Specially the ones with keepers that are shot.

    Yes, I meant shot.

Yeah, not much to learn from early pre-season. Teams usually play their best XI in the final pre-season game though, so that's a good indicator.

They've signed Lukaku, Pogba, Alexis, Bailly, Matic, Lindelol and Fred in last year or two. How many more exactly can they add that will definitely make them title contenders? I see at max 2 players they can sign and one of them better be Bale.

It doesn’t mater who they sign, they will not be competing until they change their manager.
