Some Fantasy Premier League managers may have let England fever take over a little too much in their preparations for the new season this summer.

That’s because the ownership levels of Jordan Pickford (£5.0m), Kieran Trippier (£6.0m) and Harry Maguire (£5.5m), stand-out performers at the World Cup, have surged in the last two weeks.

Such trust may prove to be misplaced as the trio are currently in danger of missing Gameweek 1 after returning to training later than their respective team-mates.

Trippier (24.8 percent) and Maguire (21.2) are now the two most popular defenders in FPL after just two weeks of the game being open.

The pair are clearly responsible for the two percent dip in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s (£5.0m) ownership, which has pushed him from first place to third when it comes to popularity among defenders.

Marcos Alonso (£6.5m) remains on 17 percent despite his role at Chelsea jeopardised by the arrival of Maurizio Sarri.

Jan Bednarek’s spell as the most fashionable £4.0m defender has come to an end, presumably due to Southampton’s signing of Jannik Vestergaard (£5.0m). The new holder of that position is Scott Malone (£4.0m) with 11.1 percent ownership, although he appears to be the second-choice left-back behind Chris Lowë at Huddersfield.

Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has started both of Crystal Palace’s friendlies so far and resides in just 2.6 percent of squads.

Pickford’s rise up the charts may be the reason that David De Gea (£6.0m) has seen his lead at the top of the goalkeeper popularity contest trimmed.

The Spaniard enjoyed 34.6 percent ownership two weeks ago but now sits in just 31.6 of squads. Alternatively, the drop-off may have been caused by Jose Mourinho declaring that he was unlikely to use any World Cup players in the first few weeks of the season.

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) remains in second place with 24.7 percent ownership but has lost two percent since our last check.

Just below the now third-place Pickford is Ederson (£5.5m) whose ownership remains stable at 17.4 percent, while Nick Pope (£5.0m) has lost two percent.

In midfield, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) remains comfortably the most popular player on the game, in 46.5 percent of squads.

Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) is in second place with 27.1 percent ownership with the much cheaper Henrikh Mkhitaryan (£7.0m) is the third most popular (21.4).

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s (£11.0m) strong start to pre-season, scoring five goals in the first three matches, has him climbing up the forwards charts. He is now in fourth place with 24.2 percent of managers backing him for Gameweek 1, dislodging Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m).

Top two Roberto Firmino (£9.5m) and Harry Kane (£12.5m) seem to have been the most fashionable sacrifice for managers getting the Arsenal man. Both of them were on roughly 39 percent ownership two weeks ago, they now have 37.8 and 33.6 respectively.

Can I get some advice please, I don’t think I’ve played a five back formation especially at the start of the season, is it viable up till the early wild card ?

    Current team:

    Ederson
    Shaw Davies Robertson Bellerin Coleman
    Silva Salah Sane
    Arnie Aubameyang

I think it's viable, but I'd make different choices. PVA and Douglas over Davies and Bellerin for me

Would you choose draft A or B?

    A) 3-5-2

    EDERSON
Robertson | Van Aanholt | Cedric
    Salah | D.SILVA | GROß | Kenedy | Neves
    Auba | Aguero

    Button | BENNETT | KAMARA | Peltier

1.5ITB for Aguero to Kane further down the line.

    B) 4-3-3

    RYAN
Robertson | Van Aanholt | Cedric | DANIELS
    Salah | Kenedy | Neves
    Auba | Aguero | KANE

    Button | CAIRNEY | CHALOBAH | Peltier

I'm surprised Pickford isn't in more RMT's. £5M, had a cracking WC, hasn't really got any competition, etc.

Played a big part in us winning our first ever shoot-out in a tournie. Made some great saves, but also had his suspect moments agreed.

No doubting he made a few good saves, but like you said looked suspect many times.

One of the goals we conceded against croatia was from a throw in he kicked out of play. could've also done better with a few goals he conceded. He kept 1 clean sheet. Our defence were the unsung heroes - if it was weak pickford would've shipped plenty more goals

      1. diesel001
        • 9 Years
        7 years, 4 months ago

Most GKs are decent IMO. Joe Hart is a good GK, for example. But when you play behind a crap defence then you are going to look bad.

Buffon, Lloris, Casillas, Neuer, De Gea all make mistakes, but their teams get them out of it, by scoring the goals. England can't score more than one goal generally so the GK makes a mistake and it is amplified.

    5. Scapegoat Salah
      • 9 Years

I think there's viable options at 4.5. Then there's 5.5 Ederson for City defense so he's priced in between for Everton so I understand him not being so popular.

In your opinion if you want to have a balanced team for the first few GWs of the season

Who is the best Liverpool player to have out of Firmino and Salah

    and

Who is the best Man City player to have out of Aguero and Sane

    Any ideas would be welcomed

      A) looks great but is incredibly punty. Martial could be just a sub once Lukaku returns. Mahrez is competing with Sterling and faces the same problem. Lamela is probably the safest bet and also the cheapest.

      B) is safer but with a lower upside.

Most of the people who are talking about captaincy value/ having more than one captaincy options/ only captaining players worth more than 10mn
You'll will be tempted by richarlison at home to Stoke ( ik Stoke are relegated but this is what happened last season. People actually captained richarlison at home to Stoke for his haul of 1 point)

I am really interested to see what this means for Alonso. Sarri formation of 4-3-3 only really utilises one one person on the touchline, so kinda rules either Emerson or Alonso playing ahead of one another. And I really can't see Alonso being used has a CB.

not sure im getting the Arnie love - the usual price for a West Ham striker over the past few seasons is about 6m
I get that they will probably be stronger this season with new manager and good signings

but he's coming in at 7m and has these fixtures in the first 10
liv BOU ars WOL eve CHE MUN bri SPUDs lei

tell me im wrong but I just cant see a bandwagon forming. wk 11 onwards however, Wilshere/Yarmalenko/Arnie all look like good ways to invest funds

for me, Zaha looks a better bet at that price point, or even push the funds into midfield and upgrade that 5th mid to Mkhi

This, basically. I currently have the possibility of Mendy/Robertson/PVA > Bellerin/Kolasinac sometime after GW2, but it's a but early to be tempted into the Arsenal defence with better options who have better short-term fixtures and are also good long-term options anyway.

After a couple GWs, I might be after 2 of Lacazette, Mkhitaryan, Ramsey or another Arsenal player to join Aubameyang, and it's much more likely I can make a reasonable informed decision after the season has started.

Definitely tempted. Especially as Arsenal don't have the CL. Is he nailed?

I really like him at 5.5. But those 2 opening fixtures are brutal. And with Emery it's wait and see...

Can see myself having 2 Arsenal defenders from gw3 and onwards(if a nailed Kola is one of them)

Are you expecting Kolasinac to play at least 60 minutes every week?

Second draft for the season. Confused whether I should spend 6.0m on Iheanacho, or just downgrade to Quaner / Kamara and redistribute the funds in defense / midfield.

    Fabianski / Foster
    Coleman / Cedric / Daniels / Tomkins / 4.0m
    Salah / Mahrez / Mkhitaryan / Walcott / Deulofeu
    Aguero / Firmino / Iheanacho

Thanks. I would like to tinker. But, I am also believing that this is going to be the breakout season for Iheanacho. With Mahrez out, it would be more direct balls from Albrighton. Benefits for Iheanacho, I reckon.

iheanacho is a great shout. can and should have a bounce back season IMO - only question is game time.

Don't think he will unless Puel for some reason tries a 3-4-1-2 or something else that's similarly strange

From what I have seen last season, he will replace Tosun.
