Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) furthered his case for inclusion in Fantasy managers’ frontlines with a brace in West Ham United’s pre-season friendly against Preston North End on Saturday.

Jack Wilshere (£5.0m) made his debut in the same match, as the Hammers were held to a 2-2 draw by the Championship club.

Wilfried Zaha (£7.0m), who like Arnautovic has been reclassified as a forward in Fantasy Premier League this season, was also on target in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 win over Oxford United.

Andrew Robertson (£6.0m) set up Virgil van Dijk (£6.0m) for Liverpool’s opening goal in the 3-1 defeat by Borussia Dortmund in Charlotte, North Carolina on Sunday evening. Joel Matip (£5.0m) was forced off early in the first half with a thigh injury.

Dortmund had beaten Manchester City 1-0 a day earlier, with Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m) and Leroy Sane (£9.5m) both getting run-outs for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Manchester United were also in action in the USA, taking on San Jose Earthquakes in California. Jose Mourinho’s side drew the match 0-0 as Antonio Valencia (£6.5m) limped off with a calf problem. Alexis Sanchez (£10.5m) and Anthony Martial (£7.5m) both started the match as part of a front three with youngster Tahith Chong.

Rui Patricio (£4.5m) and Raul Jimenez (£5.5m) made their Wolverhampton Wanderers debuts in the 0-0 draw with Bochum on Sunday. Patricio saved two penalties in the subsequent shoot-out defeat.

A largely second-string Everton side also lost on penalties over the weekend after a goalless draw with Lille. A stronger-looking line-up then drew another blank in the 1-0 loss to Porto on Sunday night.

Jonny Evans (£5.0m) and James Maddison (£6.5m) made their Leicester City debuts in the Foxes’ 4-1 win over Notts County, with Demarai Gray (£5.5m) among the scorers.

A Fulham side that featured Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m), Tom Cairney (£5.0m) and debutant Jean Michael Seri (£5.5m) were hammered 4-0 by Lyon.

AFC Bournemouth highlighted their attacking aptitude – and defensive frailties – in a 4-3 win over Levante, with Jermain Defoe (£6.0m) among the Cherries’ scorers.

Shane Duffy (£4.5m) and Jurgen Locadia (£5.5m) limped off as Brighton and Hove Albion slumped to a 2-1 defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Oliver Norwood was on target for the Seagulls from the spot.

Huddersfield Town and Burnley both played two friendlies over the weekend. The Terriers lost 2-0 to Real Betis and 1-0 to Werder Bremen (both matches lasting 45 minutes) in Germany, while Sean Dyche split his squad for the encounters with Macclesfield Town and Curzon Ashton. Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.0m) was on target in the 2-0 victory at Moss Rose, while Robbie Brady (£5.5m) returned from injury in the 5-1 win over the National League North side. Ben Mee (£5.0m) found the back of the net in this second match, with Sam Vokes (£5.5m) grabbing a brace.

Summer signing Josh Murphy (£5.0m) scored Cardiff City’s only goal in the 1-1 draw with Torquay United.

Our Scout Notes on Monday will analyse the weekend’s friendlies in greater depth, taking a closer look at personnel and formations and detailing every single goal-scorer and assist-maker.

150 sounds about par if he avoids injury and rotation given his RB Leipzig output but for 7.5 million that’s not all that special.

Well yeah maybe but Firmino scored like 170 and is ”great value” at 9.5

        1. AndyCook
          8 years, 5 days ago

Yeah he is a player who it felt like he scored a lot more points than he did. It was mostly in spells I guess. Forwards rarely look good in the value game though but their output is more predictable which is presumably why they get priced higher

He's the casual's pick because he's a big name. Best 5.0s in my opinion are: Cairney, Hughes, Kenedy, Costa.
There's not much between them either

I wouldn't say he's the casuals pick. Strong underlyings and one of the most attacking 5.0s.

        Unfortunately, open fixtures are ghastly.

        1. SW6
          • 13 Years

Neves is not attacking at all. He's a defensive midfielder who scores the odd free-kick and screamer.

He was on loan last year, and a few players who were on loan are still to be added to the game...Sturridge for example, he will be priced depending on if he's a Liverpool sub, or a starter for a mid table team.

1/ nope, you're not allowed to do anything. Set your team up and leave it. End of
2/ better FPL chrome plug in shows transfers made etc etc. If anyone has cheated they're booted NQA and no second chances. Can't monitor it all the time but will keep a close watch 🙂

    Foster (Speroni)

Just having a think about potential ways Arsenal could shape up under Dick Emery next season. Its not clear at all at this stage, despite everyone proclaiming Mkhi is great value. I do think that they will tighten up a lot defensively however.

4-2-3-1 (or 4-3-3 depends how you view it): Emerys favoured system
    ---------------Leno
    Bellerin Sokratis Mustafi Kolasinac/Nacho
    ---------Ramsey Torreira
    ---Mkhi -------Ozil -------Auba
    --------- Lacazette

4-3-1-2 (or 4-4-2 diamond): Would seem the more obvious choice to get the best out of the current crop of players. Xhaka, with his shot on him, could be a gem if he nails a place.
    ---------------Leno
    Bellerin Sokratis Mustafi Kolasinac/Nacho
    ---Ramsey Torreira Xhaka/Mkhi
    ---------------Ozil
    -------- Lacazette Auba

In the same way Klopp said two weeks ago he was sticking with Karius.

Rumors are that if Courtois moves on from Chelsea, Cech could be lined up for a return, you get a higher transfer fee for your first choice GK, than your reserve one.

current rumour is Ospina will certainly move on (Besiktas in talks), whilst Cech could go back to Chelsea.

Sommer would be an excellent back up, although arguably too good to be a sub

    Thoughts on First Draft???

    Foster (Fabs)

    Coleman, Tomkins, Tark, (Cedric, Connolly)
    (S)alah, Mahrez, Sigs, Martial, (Ralls)
    Woods, Zaha, Aguero

Martial if transferred could be gold - Mourinho has the best record in the world of letting quality players go!

Who are the players that you really like the price of, but can't fit into your GW1 team (either through fixtures, or general congestion)?

I'm thinking the likes of Kenedy, Arnie, Jota, Mkhi

West Ham players - Arnie, Fredericks, Yarm - purely based on first fixtures.

I do fancy Arnie and would punt if his opening fixtures were kinder.
There's a few like Mahrez etc that will need monitored to see what preferred choices are in city mid.

Your assuming Moutinho will start! You would think so, but you see so many players could to the premier and struggle. At 31 I think this move has come 3-4 years too late.

Here is my first draft. Am going to listen to my inner mathematician and trust 5 at the back...

    Alisson
    Cedric, Mendy, Bailly, Tomkins, Coleman
    Salah, Mahrez, Mikhi
    Firmino, Auba

    Speroni, Deulo, Kennedy, Quarner

Are there any potential improvements I should consider?

      Interesting, good team indeed

  26. @FPL_Chess

The undermentioned is one of the strategies on the FPL Chess website. Any opinions would appreciated.

An important strategy is to have the heavily owned top players in your squad, so that if they have a good week you're not left behind; however, for absolute budget players the opposite is true. Having heavily owned bench fodder means that if they're not starting people will ship them out and they'll lose value. 4.0m players will drop to 3.9m etc. So when recruiting these players, it may be better to do your homework and find lesser owned players.

Not actually the case. Players drop according to a percentage of their ownership not how many people drop them.

      1. HamezMace
        • 12 Years
        8 years, 5 days ago

But by default the higher percentage of ownership, the more people own that player?

Regarding the 4.0 keepers and defenders, I wouldn't expect many transfers because there is unlikely to be a clear alternative. Speroni for example, the highest owned 4.0m keeper, you're not going to get a flood of people taking a -4 point hit to bring in a 4.5m keeper and downgrading elsewhere in their team in GW1.

The highest transfers in the first week are usually the random 4.5m defender who scores, or surprise cheap forward...like Hegazi, and Mounie last season.

        1. @FPL_Chess
          8 years, 5 days ago

Yep you're right, but I was thinking that lots of people are going for the popular 4.0 defenders and when they play their wildcard after GW4 they'll likely be shipping them all out.

As far as I know, WC transfers don't affect prices.

            1. @FPL_Chess
              8 years, 5 days ago

Good point. I was thinking that when I wrote it. I still think having high ownership bench fodder is flawed. Low ownership means they are less likely to drop in value.

      1)
      Fabianski (4.0)
      Robertson/Mendy/Cedric/Tomkins (Wan-Bissaka)
      Salah/Mahrez/Jota/Walcott (Cairney)
      Aguero/Auba (Kamara)

      2)
      Fabianski (4.0)
      Robertson/Mendy/Cedric/Tomkins (Wan-Bissaka)
      Salah/Mane/Mahrez/Mkhi (Cairney)
      Aguero/Arnie (Kamara)

Thoughts on this team? My First Draft - never thought I'd be remotely happy with a first draft but this one doesn't seem too bad!

    Ederson (4.0/4.5)

    Salah, Mane, Jota, Richarlison, Cairney/Hughes
    Aguero, Zaha, Arnie
