Another Sessegnon warning as Brady recovery drags on

Burnley continue to struggle with injury this pre-season as Robbie Brady suffered another setback in his recovery.

His expected absence should make it easier to predict who will start on the wings for them in Gameweek 1 but questions still remain over their goalkeeper situation.

Elsewhere, there was another stern warning for those invested in Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m).

ATLETICO BILBAO 1-3 FULHAM | FULHAM 0-0 FIORENTINA

  • Goals: Neeskens Kebano (£4.5m), Aboubakar Kamara (£4.5m), own-goal
  • Assists: Jean Michaël Seri (£5.5m), Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m)

The trio of goals scored against Atletico Bilbao ended a run of three goalless matches for Fulham as Ryan Sessegnon (£6.5m) finally involved himself in attacking returns this summer. It was his cross that Yeray Álvarez directed into his own net towards the end of the first of two Cup of Traditions matches. However, there was further confirmation that Sessegnon offers much less in terms of attacking potential when playing at left-back. He was used there in the second match of the afternoon, for the second time in pre-season, and had little influence on the game. The 12.1 percent of Fantasy managers who currently own the 18-year-old should make themselves aware of that and keep an eye on new signing Maxime Le Marchand (£4.5m) – any injury or suspension to him could force Sessegnon back into defence this season.

These two matches saw new signing Fabri (£4.5m) make his first appearances in goal, and give us a chance to see whether he could take the number one jersey from Marcus Bettinelli (£4.5m) this season. Of particular note was the former Besiktas man’s distribution, able to easily find his full-backs and get play moving well from the back. According to local press, this is an area that Bettinelli has struggled with in the past which could hand the advantage to Fabri, who also has experience of playing Champions League football too.

In front of him in the first match, we saw Le Marchand, Tim Ream (£4.5m), Denis Odoi (£4.5m) and Cyrus Christie (£4.5m) line up as the back-four for the third time in pre-season. No other combination has been used as often by Slaviša Jokanović during the summer, suggesting – barring any further recruitment – they will start at Craven Cottage when Crystal Palace come to visit on August 11.

Neeskens Kebano (£4.5m) has done his chances of featuring from the beginning in that match no harm after a decent display in these friendlies. The DR Congo international faces competition for a start on the flanks of the front-three from Sessegnon and Andre Schürrle (£6.0m), who made his first appearance for Fulham against Fiorentina, but is currently the club’s top-scorer in pre-season and with more minutes in the bank than Schürrle. However, the German World Cup winner reportedly impressed in his 45-minute spell in the Cup of Traditions final and, as the new signing, is expected to also be in with a strong shout of starting Gameweek 1.

FULHAM XI vs BILBAO (4-3-3): Fabri; Le Marchand, Odoi, Ream, Christie; Johansen, Seri, Cairney; Sessegnon, Kamara, Kebano.

FULHAM XI vs FIORENTINA (4-3-3): Fabri; Sessegnon, Odoi, Ream, Christie; McDonald, Johansen, Seri; Kebano, Kamara, Schürrle.

BURNLEY 0-0 MONTPELIER

  • Goals: None
  • Assists: None

Robbie Brady’s (£5.5m) recovery from injury hit a setback in Burnley’s latest pre-season match, a 0-0 draw with Montpelier. The former Hull City man has been on his way back from a knee injury sustained in December but was forced off with a hamstring problem just before half-time on Sunday. Manager Sean Dyche has sought to ease fears that Brady will be on the sidelines for some time, which should be of interest to Fantasy managers aware of the Irishman’s potential this season.

“It was a very minor thing in his hamstring so we took him off immediately. He’s been out for a while, so we don’t want any secondary injuries if we can help it.” – Sean Dyche

Regardless of how much of a setback this proves to be for Brady, his withdrawal strengthens the case for investment in either Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£6.om) or Aaron Lennon (£5.0m) – the two wingers who started against Aberdeen last week. The Icelandic international has one goal to his name in pre-season and is the key man for set-pieces while Lennon has found the net twice so far this summer and is £1.0m cheaper.

Burnley are still waiting on an update on Nick Pope’s (£5.0m) dislocated shoulder, with him having seen a specialist this week. With Tom Heaton (£5.0m) carrying a calf strain, the prospects of the Clarets’ defence are somewhat up in the air. There is no return date set for either him or Pope yet with Anders Lindegaard the most likely stand-in so far. It may be difficult to invest in £5.0m defenders like James Tarkowski or Ben Mee if there are doubts over the man between the sticks.

“The shoulder joint definitely came out and (went) back in so it just depends on the damage along the way. We’ll see what the specialist says tomorrow. When you look at the incident it was a freaky incident. I’ve seen the stills and it is just a freak moment in a game. It went back in pretty quick, so it depends on the disruption in the shoulder. We’ll find out more tomorrow.” – Sean Dyche

Jeff Hendrick (£5.5m) was the only member of the starting XI that faced Aberdeen to feature from the beginning in this match, as Dyche largely used either second-string options or players on their return from injury problems. Ashley Barnes (£6.0m) was one of the latter, his involvement against Montpelier the first since the opening match of pre-season. The former Plymouth Argyle striker managed 60 minutes before being replaced by Nakhi Wells (£4.5m). Sam Vokes (£5.5m) started alongside him after coming off the bench to equalise for Burnley at Pittodrie.

BURNLEY XI (4-4-2): Legzdins; Taylor, Dunne, Long, Bardsley; Brady (McNeil 42’), Hendrick (Goodridge 60’), O’Neill, Walters; Barnes (Wells 60’), Vokes (Agyei 70’).

    Are we overlooking David Silva?

Currently found in just 6.2% of FPL teams is a player that many Man City fans regard as one of the greatest, if not the greatest , to ever put on the sky blue shirt- David Silva. With 48 goals and 75 assists in 249 city appearances as well as countless games bossing the midfield it is easy to see why the blue half of Manchester is so fond of the little magician.
Yet the player is only currently found in less than 1 in 10 fpl teams. Why is that?

    - Young Mateo- David’s son was born prematurely in December 2017 at which time Pep allowed (as he should) David to essentially come and go as he pleased from the City squad as he rushed to and from a Valencian Hospital to see his boy. Thankfully for all involved Mateo is now at home with his family and this stressful period for the Silva family is over. In terms of how this affected David on the pitch he went from making 17 consecutive starts (GW1-17) to missing 9/21 of the remaining league games. His form did not seem to be affected too much though as he still returned a respectable 4 goals and 3 assists in the 12 games he did play.

    - World cup fatigue- Silva made 4 appearances in Russia playing 327 minutes as Spain crashed out in the R16. City’s other midfield stars Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne were involved until the Quarters and the 3rd place play off respectively so in theory should be more fatigued than the spaniard. However, both Silva and Fernandinho returned to training on 30/07/2018 giving them a fortnight to get into shape before their opening game versus Arsenal.

    - His career is winding down- I hear this argument banded about quite a lot on the FFS boards but I don’t quite see it myself. Before Mateo was born in December 2017. As mentioned above, Silva started the Citizens opening 17 games. At the point where his family issues arose city had an 11 point lead that they were never going to relinquish. In the opening period of the season where the hard yards were run, Silva was an ever present returning 5 goals and 8 assists in those 17 games. City missed out on their main central midfield target this summer in Jorginho and as of today, have not signed anyone to play in Silva’s position. With Mendy back fit again City should have more midfield cover now that Delph is free to play in his favoured position but I don’t think anyone in their right mind can argue that he is of a similar calibre to Silva. With De Bruyne looking likely to miss GW1 due to his world cup exertions I would be amazed if Pep went into the Arsenal game without his other midfield playmaker. I would also expect Silva to play many, if not all, of their opening fixtures as Pep eases KDB back into the fray.

So bearing all this in mind, here are my reasons to pick Silva:
    - Personal problems are behind him leaving him free to play
    - Should start the season
    - Lack of a like for like replacement in city squad
    - Had his 2nd highest goal scoring return last season despite missing several games with 9 goals scored
    - Highest PPG of any City midfielder bar Sterling
    - A great differential: found in only 6.2% of teams compared to KDB’s 27.9%, Sane’s 19.1% and Agueros 12.9%

    Thanks for reading.

Good post and I completely agree. I’m very likely to have D Silva or Mahrez in my team. You think he’s worth the extra 0.5m given he’ll likely be in a more advanced role?

      Really appreciate it!

I've just had in my head that "no City outfield players are nailed" and so haven't picked any - though Silva was in my very first few drafts when the game came out.

I think I should definitely be putting more time into looking at players in this way. This could be really beneficial to my team if I go for him. Thanks!

Gundogan is fit now. Bilva wil get more minutes there, as the wing is preoccupied. They also have Foden and Douglas.

As for that, I trust Pep a lot more than Mou for instance.

Im avoiding all city mids because it’s too crowded, I may triple up on gk/def but right now I’m on ederson and mendy.

KDB and Silva do seem to me to be the most likely starters once WC fatigue is over. But it’s a wait and see for me.

Great post. I actually thought he was in the form of his career prior to his family commitments. None of us know who Pep's favoured 11 will be at this stage, but we do know they will score goals. The best way of dealing with this is I think to pick their cheapest attacking assets and just take the rotation on the chin (and make sure your bench is decent).

I thought the same about D Silva. In fact when his family troubles started, in the games he did play he dominated play so well nd collevted so many points that I felt he would be a great asset this season. He's come in at an attractive price

          *posted before I finished*
...but with Mahrez about now, it's hard to decide between having (1) one city mid, high rotation risk, and a medioce bench player (2) one nailed player like Mane or Eriksen with weaker bench player, or (3) two mid price midfielders with one on bench each week or filling in for any other absent player.

Might look at how these options would have performed season.

Yeah I bought him into my team after he scored 2 v Swansea....then his family troubles started, he didn't play a game for me in 3 weeks and I had to transfer him out! But yes when he came back into the side he was superb.

Yeah I don't know if Mahrez has been bought in to play the D Silva position, or to compete with Sterling on the right. And I don't really kno where that leaves B Silva either, I guess he could play any position across the attacking mid positions.

Whichever you decide, I wouldn't go above 5.0m for a player who will be benched most weeks, wastes too much of the budget that way.

Had similar experiences with D Silva last season, taking him out and regretting it every time!

Mahrez is a flexible player, as are all the other city mids. It's too difficult to predict their lineups and formation and all i can say now is that there is more risk. Aguero actually has more appeal to me this season, since there's even more uncertainty in midfield.

Last season I always injured players in my team, often ending up with 10 men including weak bench fodder, so I wouldn't be surprised if it pays to spread the value around.

Yeah it was an odd season for him really, I did managed to have him for his 2 goals v stoke though which was nice.

Yeah thats true. I'm assuming he plays a 4-1-4-1 again, with Mahrez, Sterling, B Silva, D Silva, Sane, De Bruyne competing for those 4 spots, but even that might change I guess. aguero though is uncertainty and cost 11m, thats too much for me to pay for a rotation risk who I'd be too scared to captain, theres no way Aguero can deliver value when not captained imo.

Ah ok, make sure you have a playing bench then as the first step 🙂

That's how I think about it, basically 4 players to choose from 6. The points should be shared out more and I expect the league to be more difficult thucity s season, so potentially less points for city (just speculating, though!).

After seeing aguero' s per minute stats over the last 5 years I decided he's never a bad bet as long as he's fit.

Just because he has the same name doesn't mean he can do the same job! According to this:

        https://www.transfermarkt.com/bernardo-silva/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/241641/saison//verein/281/liga/0/wettbewerb//pos/0/trainer_id/0/plus/1

he played CM/AM 6 times in the whole of last season and didn't play there again after January 2nd which is right when David's personal problems were at their most taxing.

I think a lot of the posts about rotation are overlooking one thing. D Silva os an absolutely sensational player and head and shoulders above B Silva, Gondogan and Mahrez. He is quite simply a cut above these other chaps, while they are all quality themselves.

£8.5m is an absolute snip for DSilva and he's been an ever present in each and every one of my drafts.

Great post Mike. For me it's between him and Silva, which i'l decide on after Charity shield.
I'm leaning towards Silva, as I think he's as nailed as any city mid until champ league. And it's likely at that stage i'l be looking to upgrade KDB

Struggling to look past the Ederson/4.0 keeper combo. Most nailed and cheapest route into a decent MCY defence with great fixtures. Probably rules out Mendy though, who I think could be a great option this year - 1 MCY attacker is likely to be insufficient.

Anyone else in the same position?

I really like him as an option as well, but leaning towards a cheaper option. Mainly, as you say, because I believe Mendy can become an excellent value player this year.

If Heaton is fit for GW1 I can see an argument for going set and forget with him. If he's not though, I think I'm probably going Ederson.

Literally switched Ederson to Heaton this morning.

Actually tempted by an early double up on City defence - Ederson + Mendy.

Very tough to decide between Ederson or a 4.5.

In general there will be a few 4.5 keepers who offer better value than the expensive ones, but finding them will always be difficult - you know what you're getting with Ederson, and he's still a great value pick compared with other positions on the pitch

He's a good pick. However I feel someone like Patricio will offer better value over the season. That extra money can be better used in midfield where the biggest points are to be found. Good luck either way

I still think it will be a stretch for Mendy to play every game having played so few minutes post injury. Fancy he'll get the odd rest.

With you on Emerson and a 4.0 keeper.

Thoughts on this chaps? Focus on City/Liverpool attacking assets. Patricio a weak link however most will go with Ederson and I think Patricio has a chance of outscoring Ederson over the first 2-3 gameweeks (and allows another outfield City player).

      Patricio
      Robertson, Mendy, Bailly
      Salah, Mane, Mahrez, Cairney
      Aguero, Zaha, Arnie

      (4.0, Ward, AWB, Peltier)

      Cheers

I like it, but my two concerns are the slightly weak bench, but more so that all of Mendy, Bailly, Mahrez and Aguero will be rotated imo.
Think Patricio is viable in the first weeks with those fixtures

Had an interesting idea on team structure in the first few GW’s and I’m interested in hearing your thoughts.

As I’m not fully convinced that the premium strikers like Auba, Kane, Aguero will play/do much in the first couple of GWs, I thought of starting with a front line of triple 7’s; Arnie, Zaha, Tosun with two heavy midfielders (Salah and Sanchez).

Although usually I’m not a big fan of having transfers lined up from the beginning, this seems interesting. You can easily with 2 transfers downgrade Sanchez (or even Salah) to one of the many potential bargains at 6.5-7.5m (Pedro, Jota, Mkhi, Ramsey, Rich etc.) and spend the cash on upgrading one of the 7m forwards to Kane/Aguero/Jesus/Auba after the first few GWs.

It will give you a chance to asses the form of all the cheap mids while also seeing which of the 7m forwards will perform.

Is this a crazy team structure from GW 1 or could it be a valid way to start off?

          Appreciate your thoughts 🙂

Sanchez mostly as a punt for the first few weeks if he starts up top - and as I say it is an easy switch.
Aubas first fixtures are kind of tough and he might start on the wing.

But I’m getting that you are not a fan of it haha

Hahahaha I have both Aguero and Auba in my team as well as Salah. The only United asset I have is Bailey and I am even debating getting rid of him. I don't mind if Auba starts on the wing. He did last season and he has this pre-season and he still bangs them in. He also plays up front when Lacazette isn't played. You can't know if Sanchez will be played up front or on the wing until GW1 and then it is too late plus Mourinho has now said Lukaku should be back for the WC.

Again, I’m not so convinced that Auba will outperform the 7m forwards in the first couple of weeks with those fixtures, but could be very wrong. It is a punt, as I said, trying to do something a bit different from what I usually do.

Can’t see a lot of premium mids I want in the first few weeks if Hazard, KDB etc. won’t start GW 1.
And I agree that Tosun is also a risky pick, but he could do well with those fixtures and prove value for only 7m

Salah is in my team even with the funky structure - and would like Sané too.
Eriksen a good long term pick, not sure about short term, Mahrez maybe, but will be rotated too much for my taste. Better value other places than Mané, as he never really delivers.

There are no playing reliable 4.5 strikers for the third slot ... may as well have a playing 4.5 mid and a 7.0 forward, than a non playing 4.5 forward and a 7.0 mid 🙂

The problem with planning transfers is that you're relying on things to go as you envision, but rarely does life and, by extension, FPL, work that way. You're setting up for a particular set of outcomes which might leave you blindsided, rather than setting your team out in an adaptable way to adapt to a wide set of possibilities and probabilities.

I completely agree that having to settled a “transfer plan” rarely works out. But I actually think this starting structure is fairly flexible. Of course if all of the premium strikers AND Salah, Hazard, KDB, Salah will all bang them in, we aren’t going to be able to get them all.
Again, it will definitely need to be changed after a few weeks, but think it could perhaps be a good way to start of.
                        Thanks

It's not crazy at all, and anyone who criticises it just hates thinking outside the box in my opinion. There's a lot of uncertainty around at this early stage, especially among premium assets who featured heavily at the WC, and I think it's wise to go for nailed on, talisman types in the forward line for now, then make the double switch as you've outlined once we know more.

It's so important to get off to a good start. I'd rather spend a few hits in the first 6 GWs than pick a team that's "well set up" for the season but not looking that strong for GW1 and GW2. You want to race out of the blocks.

Personally I'm going even lighter up top with Zaha, Arnie, Wood for now. I like Bournemouth fixtures and attacking intent but since I can't fit in King, I've got Fraser (Stanislas injured, Fraser has higher PPM than King and Wilson). My final decision is whether to go with Sanchez (and Schlupp) or Mahrez (and Mendy).

If Sanchez starts on the wing doing his cut inside and booting the ball into the crowd thing because Lukaku is back or just because his manager is Mourinho, then he is only going to be getting you 2-3 points regardless of starts and opposition

Sensing a bit of a hostile attitude towards Sanchez/Utd.

I agree that they play too defensively, but Sanchez is a class player and had a rest for the first time in a few years. They won’t win the league for sure, but people are writing them off too easily imo.
Risky, but it could be a different strategy that pays off.

It isn't United that annoy me, it is Mourinho. With that team they could play amazing to watch football. See the match last night? However, it will be another dour season until he is fired or leaves. Sanchez was a class player last season too and how well did he do then? I am just steering clear of attacking assets until I see how they set up. May keep Bailey unless it becomes crystal clear who will start for 5.5m in the Chelsea team.

I agree on Mou, as you say, they could really play amazing football with that group of players. Unfortunately he chooses his negative football. I just have a thing for Sanchez even though he didn’t do well last season. He has the hunger and I think he wants to prove himself this season.
I’m actually staying clear of the defenders as well - too much risk for me with many other decent options in defense.

It's not a bad shout. My previous draft had a midfield of Sane, Mahrez, Salah and Mane and Zaha, Arnie & Tosun. I just don't think Sanchez is good enough value when you consider the style of football Liverpool, City (and Spurs) play.

Yeah i agree that Sanchez probably won’t be good value long term, but he seems kind of fired up and may start up front.
The only reason, why I think it could be a good way to start is the flexibility and the state Spurs and City are in. Both still kind of heavily hit from players coming back from World Cup.

Doesn't surprise me - I keep on saying it, but I think a hell of a lot more WC players are going to be playing GW1 than people on here think.

Think we need to rate every player by himself. For instance I cant see KDB playing GW1 with the depth that City has. I can see Lukaku playing because Mou is Mou and will want his best team out regardless of his early "they need rest".

Yep - agree with this - the consensus on here though seems to basically be that if you played late into the WC you are automatically a massive doubt for the first 2 or 3 GWs. I really can't see this happening in this day and age.

I think it would be very wise to have a bit of a plan on how to shoehorn both KDB and Hazard in if the latter stays!
                              A. KDB + Hazard
                              B. Salah + 7.5m
Thinking about it A. seems the much better long term option to me from GW3 onwards.
Albeit a lot of ifs and buts etc.
                              Thoughts?

Totally agree, especially considering the 7-7.5s aren't the best value imo. KDB and Haz should have great seasons, one could even outscore Salah (dare I say it)

Most will slate us for thinking like this on here but Salah is way down my pecking order due to price and effect on.the rest of my team! Robertson was of the first names in my team and will start with Mane, Sanchez and Eriksen with an close eye on KDB and Haz!
Hazard could easily be to points scorer under Sarri if he stays!

Totally agreed, Napoli's wingers banged last season. I feel as if Hazard has a really good season in him (then a move to Madrid)

If I don't mind saying so, I really like my team.

                              My two problems are
                              A) No City options going forward
                              B) Too much strength on the bench (I dont mind this for the start of the season to be fair as it makes bringing replacements in easily, fewer transers)

Too many rotations prone players for my taste - especially in defense.
Eriksen is a good pick for the season, but I’m not convinced he will smash it from the get go with Spurs’ situation.

Would love to get a discussion going on goalkeepers:

For those without DDG, are you getting one of their defenders in? Last season and pretty much every season since I can remember, if you don't have any Man U def 'coverage' (cringe) your rank gets burned if they keep a clean sheet.

                                What are your thoughts? Giggity

City as well for sure, I think Ederson and Bailly will work for the start of the season but Bailly isn't the 'nailed' option you get with DDG for the long term.

                                    Frustratingly I can't see a decent M.City option for 5.5m either

Mou said that he wanted to give gametime to Smalling & Jones so that they could make the World Cup squad (which Smalling did not, unfortunately).

Bailly most probably will start. But Utd’s defence looks wrecked. Probably needs DDG to save them.

I like this strategy, however, Man U fixtures:

LEI, bri, TOT, bur, wat, WOL - tasty fixtures, plus I think Burnley have Europa around their fixture so even tastier.

I'm currently going without. For starters I think their defenders are an absolute lottery at the moment as to who will play. Secondly, their defence is dreadful. Their expected goals conceded was 16 higher than the amount they let in, which shows they were basically utterly reliant on De Gea having the best season of his career. even a small downturn in De Gea's form, or a touch less luck, will see their defence rendered no better than average. Thirdly, Mourinho is completely going into meltdown, and the culture of negativity at the club I only see ending in one way - his sacking, after a run of poor form, at some point in the season.

I would disagree that their defence is dreadful, they will keep cleanies, that's almost a guarantee for me under Maureen. As a Man U fan, I'm not keen on Mourinho anymore, the style of play is negative and boring and has been this way for so long, having said this, I wouldn't believe everything the media is portraying in terms of the negativity.

Ok dreadful was perhaps an overstatement, but its a worse defence than Chelsea, Man City, Spurs and Liverpool. I think you are more likely to get clean sheet points by investing in assets from those clubs, especially as some defenders from those clubs can be identified as far more "nailed on" than the Utd ones.

I agree with you. And at the moment they have a lot injuries, world cup players wont play opening games and ofc Matic is out for start of season (big factor with De Gea for Uniteds clean sheets).

See reply to YMA above. Well the investors in PVA are betting on the fact his attacking threat outweighs the potential for fewer clean sheets than utd players aren't they? I don't think any of the United defenders offer the attacking threat PVA does, nor are any of them a guarenteed starter like PVA is.

No way. United will suck balls this year. They'll be mid-table at Christmas without a clean sheet to their name. So much better value in other defences.

Injuries are piling up, I think Matic will be a big miss, their defending didn't look that great against Milan, and don't like picking non-nailed players (except City attackers).

Wait till those first 3 are done, and then get one in.

Currently starting without any ManU defs, as it’s been said, it’s a lottery at the moment. Just think VVD/Robertson will prove better value in the beginning at least. Not sold on Ederson, as I want to see how Mendy gets on and we probably can’t waste two City spots on defs long term

I have none for now as hard to predict the starters. Don't really fancy ddg particularly over ederson or Allison tbh think they will get similar points

I also think Man U will struggle and mourinho will do his usual 3rd season self destruct and be sacked before the season finishes

I think its okay to go with whats perceived to be a reliable way into their backline (bailly). It's also more than okay to wait and see, as it seems that MOU is being really MOU in preseason, and currently none bar DDG is nailed.

Dont like the DDG pick. At 6.0 he needs to perform the way he did last season, and with the uncertainty currently surrounding the team, he doesnt look to be likely to replicate it. Using transfers on a gi early on is really a waste imo.

The Utd defence looks poor tbh, but for unbelievable heroics from DDG their numbers would have been average at best. Pre-season already has a sense crisis about it and I wonder if he's close to losing the dressing room? Caveat emptor.

Going without any United at all to start. Looks like something isn't right to me, and we don't know Mourinho's favoured back 4 when everyone is fit. Will reassess on wildcard, or swap one of my two premium defenders if the United defence looks worth investing in more than Liverpool, Chelsea or City.

Mourinho *promised* Bailly will start, so he probably will (for some time), he even played a friendly with a minor physical problem, which caused a praise from Jose.

That might be actually something valuable in this context of crisis.

That said, will Bailly start just one game and then be benched? It might happen. Lindelof is already back in training.

So I would trust Bailly to start one game for certain, but just that.

If you don't get a United CS, you could get a CS from another player, or actual goals, assists and bonus points. And when United don't get a CS, you can also get goals, assist, bonus points, and even a CS. And if a United player is benched you could get any of those things plus 2 appearance points. Amazing!

Absolutely not essential. No defender owned by more than 6.3% ... the question should be, is DDG essential with his 29% ownership and again I'd say no.

We are having this United defender topic to see if we need to draft a defensive cover for that hight DDG ownership, I personally think we do, at 29% DDG ownership United cleanie can hurt your rank, that’s the main reason I’m going with Bailly,
I also have Ederson, VVD, Luiz and Bavis in defence in 4-4-2

I know we kind of knew this already, but it's confirmed Son will be available for GW1 against Newcastle, and will leave for the Asian games after GW1.
The Asian games runs until September 2nd. So Son probably won't play again until GW5.

Spurs apparently struck a deal which allows Son to miss the start of the Asian Cup in January. (7th and 11th - GW21/22)
They initially wanted to keep Son until after GW2 but South Korean FA said no.

B for me. Both have tricky fixture to start. Uncertain around Aguero for gw2. Aubameyang looking strong, good preseason and no World Cup. I want him from gw3 anyway for great fixtures so may as well save a transfer.

I think this is my first RMT, as I am getting a hang of what team I could take into GW1.

                                  Ederson, 4.0,
Robertson, Cedric, Tomkins, S Cook, 4.0,
Salah, David Silva, Mkhitaryan, Richarlison, 4.5,
                                  Aguero, Firmino, Arnie.

                                  Looks kinda safe init?

Yes, I like it, beware that D Silva could be rotated a lot more this season tho

Yeah I know - but if they stick to 4-3-3, who really are the alternatives to Silva? Can Mahrez play there - dont think so.

Gundogan, B Silva and Mahrez imo. I think Pep could play him in that role a lot. Maybe raise 1m by transferring Micky for Jota/Maddison so you can go D Silva to Sane. Up to you though

Mkhitaryan Firmino silva and your 4.5s not guaranteed playing time

Mkhitaryan is only guy who can play wide right in the entire squad, though. Until we go something drastically different - like 3 at the back, he's good.

Firmino? What's wrong w/ Firmino? You expect Sturridge to play ahead of one of the best strikers in Europe last year.

Anyway, I could switch on the 4.5s yet, just think this will be base of the team.

                                  Fulham penalty taker
Going to start by saying that Cairney is in my team and for 5.0 I think GES brilliant value. But some posts suggest that he is the number one penalty taker and I wanted to provide some info and a bit of history.
TLDR Fulham don’t have a clear penalty taker and in the past it’s been shared around depending who is on form.

Last season, Norwood took penalties, then Kamara. However, neither will feature much this season. Cairney didn’t take any penalties last season but then again we weren’t awarded one after January and with the new signings it’s very much up for grabs I think.

In 2016/17 we had a shocking time with penalties and went through half a dozen penalty takers. Even Tim Ream took one (and missed). Cairney ended up taking the last two in 2016/17 (and scoring).

In the recent penalty shoot out against fiorentina which finished 9-8 to fiorentina, the penalty takers in order were:
                                  Shurrle
                                  Sessegnon
                                  Seri
                                  Kebano
                                  Odoi
                                  Ream
                                  De la torre
                                  McDonald
                                  Sessegnon (missed)

Cairney, Le Marchand, mitrovic and Kamara weren’t playing.

So buy Cairney because he’s guaranteed minutes and is brilliant value with goals and assists in his locker. but don’t expect him to be on penalties.

                                    What does TLDR mean?

My gut feeling is that Cairney will take the penalties when he's on the pitch
