The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

It seems like it, he is one of the players that have had a decent/good pre-season, scoring two goals this far. He just signed a new 1 year contract. I can see him starting in gw1

5.0 to spend on one Def, and can’t be Pool or Sakho. Has to be Shaw (even tho transfer waiting to happen), right?

even if this transfer happens(and i'm actually doubt) the newcomer won't have enough training time with the squad and won't be nailed for the gw1(at least) as well.

If nailed, then probably. If both nailed, then it could go either way. Both will rack up CS. Attacking wise neither will offer too much, unless Luiz gets the odd set piece. I seem to remember Luiz doing ok in the bonus points. So maybe that tips it?

I'd expect both to start the season fwiw it's just that they can never really be nailed given the back-up, pick the one you like.

For a set and forget premium/4m keeper pair, which is better 4m Gk to go for? The least owned or higher owned. Looking for the 4m keeper less likely to drop in price.

You'd think people are less inclined to switch 4.0 keepers, because they're all there as enablers, not as starters. But it depends if the type of person selecting Speroni differs to the one picking Steele. All up, as long as you pick one and stick. A change is unlikely, and wont matter anyway.

Working with this at the moment, would love some thoughts:

    Ederson (Stekelenburg)
Robertson Van Dijk Luiz Tarkowski Wan-Bissaka
    Salah Sanchez Mahrez (Stephens, Masuaku)
    Aguero Zaha

Lining up VVD>Lovren, Sanchez>Hazard, Mahrez>KDB, Aguero>Aubameyang in the first few weeks. Monitoring Luiz v Bailly.

Masuaku is a horrible pick. What's point of Steklenburg unless Pickford gets sold? Double Pool defence??? Sanchez will he score like he did at Arsenal to justify that price. Don't think so

Maddison at 6.5 or Seri at 5.5? I think both of them could be sneaky good picks this season, but not sure I'm willing to carry both of them as it would be hard to justify benching one of the two of them if I decided to rotate (and also not sure I'm willing to run a 3-5-2 with a throwaway 4.5 FWD).

    1. Kered
      • Fantasy Football Scout Member

FWIW, I'd pick the one with the easier first fixture.. If it pays off, you could increase value, if it fails, could lose value.
The game is unforgiving at the start.. So that being said, Seri for me (better value also)

Thanks for the reply. One of my favorite games as the beginning of the season is to find that hidden gem that I get to hold for the entire season. Last season it was Salah and Doucoure (who was more than serviceable at his price). A couple of years ago it was Mahrez. I just really like both Maddison and Seri and think they both might fit the bill this season.

Good point. Also, I guess I could also downgrade one of the two to a 4.5 mid and then upgrade somewhere else if one of them doesn't look strong coming out of the gate.

What I will add, is the need to be wary of promoted sides, especially at the start. As good as they look on paper, the premier league is a different beast. So for me, I would assess a couple games before selecting two of them.

    2. The Gobstopper
      • 11 Years

I really think I might go with both. I know the set-piece takers thing doesn't have Seri listed on pens or direct free kicks, but he was on them for OGC Nice. If he ends up on both of those, and given his passing, he could be an absolute steal at 5.5.

Yeah. That's what it seems like, and that's what makes the decision so hard because Seri was an absolute force for Nice. I'm still completely befuddled about how Fulham even got him.

I would like to make a suggestion on the whole RMT article transition.

Its very possible this has been mentioned before, but it would be very handy if it was easily accessible in the top right corner somehow. I'm aware it's there if clicking on the article tab, but I think it needs its own BOLD "RMT" tab or something. Less clicks the better if possible..
