The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

If Pep gives any indication of KDB starting against Arsenal as he will be with the team at Wembley in the CS but wont play, will you be bringing him in

I would not bring KDB in personally but would definitely try to fit in some City players in that case.

Anyone planning to go without Aguero or Auba from the start? City without KDB do not look too appealing to me atm. Auba's tough starting 2 fixtures, and the possibility of playing on the wing also putting me off him. Anyone else agree on this?

I have Auba, rumor has it KDB could start GW 1 so that could influence things a bit

Feels good to be back doesn't it?

I am quite looking forward to this season for a few reasons, one of them in particular is the FPL Draft. It's now revamped and looking like its worth playing!

I am currently running a Promotion/Relegation league consisting of 4 leagues. I am looking for help running it, and also for people that are interested in joining. I have a large group currently from last season, but I think most lost interest as it was horrible without trades..

If your interested in joining, or helping me organize and manage it (ideally someone with experience with such things) that would be great. I really think this could take off, I have plenty of ideas for the future..

    Thanks!

I would be interested in joining in that case. I had also lost interest in the draft last season, so did not bother participating this season.

Hoping it gains more interest than last season. My worry is that it will have too much interest which is why I need the organizers.. May need more leagues.
Happy to add you to the list of players. I'll have updates later

    ?

    1. Football Weekender

      Armautovic for me.

Arnautovic has only been playing as a striker since the start of the year so his goalscoring stats aren’t a true reflection of where he currently is as a player.

Yes, Austin has better fixtures on paper but 2/4 of Arnautovic’s fixtures are really juicy.

Hey folks. I always prefer to play either 3-4-3 or 3-5-2. So looks like I might have to play my 5th midfielder atleast for the first 3 weeks.

Which 5m mid is a good choice? Not actually expecting anything more than 2-3 points a match. But I am not sure about anyone from promoted sides e.g. Neves or Costa or Cairney.

Anyone from the below list likely to outscore Cairney/Neves? Or should I stick with one of them for the 5th spot?

    1. McArthur
    2. Diabate
    3. Hughes
    4. Herrera

    1. Andy_Social

pretty set on 4 of my attacking players as City and Liverpool probably have the best opening schedule. So I've locked in Salah Kun Mane and Mahrez in my team.
I'm really confused about my team structure though..

    A. Cheap defence

    4.5 4
    TAA Tomkins Cedric Daniels Doherty
    Salah Mane Mahrez Siggy Mkhi
    Kun Zaha 4.5

    B. 3 premium defenders

    4.5 4
Robertson Mendy Rudiger Doherty Wan Bissaka
    Salah Mane Mahrez Jota Cairney
    Kun King 4.5

    C. All premium defence

    4.5 4
    Robertson Mendy Rudiger Bellerin Coleman
    Salah Mane Mahrez 4.5 4.5
    Kun King 4.5

No clear favourite structures in my book, so well have FPL Towers done the pricing this season.

I'm currently on 3 premium defenders and 4 premium mids with less spent up top.

    Leno
    Mendy, Mee, Morrison
    Salah, Lucas, Maddison, Richarlison
    Aubameyang, Agüero, Mitrovic

    Foster, Dunk, Wan Bissaka, Hudson-Odoi

Looking to trade Lucas out after GW2 and Morrison after GW3. The rest of the team is based on the first 8 GWs. Is Agüero worth keeping over other Man City mids (idk who are nailed early on) and Laca > Auba for the price?

Really good, wouldn't go Lucas myself as I don't like having a preemptive transfer in the team, you never know what can happen and you might need it for something else

Thanks! Hmmm, you could be right with the Lucas argument... I had pre-emptive transfers last year too and most of the time I didn't go through with it. My second option in that regard (since Richarlison and Maddison are keepers imo) is to change one of my premium FOR to accommodate Sanchez as an OOP MID. Even though this is also preemptive lmao, straight swap to KDB or Hazard is possible

Arnautovic, but Mitrovic, King or Wood are all good options as well. It's very hard. Going with 3 of those myself, and build out a strong midfield.

King with Bournemouth fixtures and pens is enticing...

      I'm going with James Tarkowski - £5.0
Good until GW 9 I think.
