The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

My entire FPL tinkering goes on around this one question...

    Salah or NO-Salah...???

Not able to go beyond this thought. Teams looks so different with and without salah.

      for e.g.
      Salah + Mitrovic
      vs.
      KDB + Firmino

      Salah.

Easy to swap out if needed, but will probably stay for the season

No Salah is a big mistake imo but obviously no player is essential but if he starts scoring gw1, it would be hard for non owners to get him, his price will start to go up and you will be chasing from gw2 onwards.
If he does nothing in 2-3 games you can easy get some KDB/Hazard or whoever will be back from WC but your rank will be ok as his ownership is quite high plus many big hitters coming from WC wont burn you till that time.

if he does nothing than my rank would shoot up being the non-owner

Swings and roundabouts really. At least you'll have 35/36 GW to claw it back after his double hat trick!

I’m no Salah expert, having not played since 2015/16, but he seems hard not to pick. He managed to score whilst injured for Egypt at the WC, and has looked in good form in preseason.

His price will not rise even if he hauls GW1, unless the casuals are taking hits, as you can’t do a straight swap. So you could risk him blanking, but ultimately your whole squad structure is built around him. It would take a wildcard to restructure or at least three or four transfers to properly get him in if you start without.

I'd say go with Salah, while you have chance to pick a strong squad. If you want to take him out later its a very easy transfer.

Agree completely, I still have Kun, Sanchez, Robertson, Mendy and Luiz plus the 6.5m mids, Jota, Richarlison, Pedro and King up front.

    7. Dyballer

Ok so here's my team with and without. Which do you think looks better?

      Leno
      Mendy, Mee, Morrison
      Salah, Lucas, Maddison, Richarlison
      Aubameyang, Agüero, Mitrovic

      Foster, Dunk, Wan Bissaka, Hudson-Odoi

Without Salah, the changes I'd make are Salah -> Mane and Lucas -> Sanchez / Hazard / KDB.

Essentially you can still have two premium FOR with Salah. The difference is that you can have an extra one or two premium MID / DEF without him.

The reason why I would sway towards keeping Salah is because Mane has scored maximum 13 goals in 4 seasons of PL but also 10ish consistently. This is clearly a result of his playing style, so I cannot see him scoring 15+.

The question now is 'What is the min no. goals Salah will score this season?' I think 25+ is easily within his range. Now that 10+ minimum difference in goals is what you have to base it on. Balancing it out with Hazard or Sanchez could work out, but there is much more uncertainty given their previous seasons

Salah for me. If you go without and realised after a few gws realise you need him, he is so expensive and hard to bring in without major surgery.

Zanka, Tarkowski**, Bellerín, Daniels, Digne in the back. Should I be considering a complete DEF change? Suggestion?

Zanka - prefer tomkins or boly at that price
      Tarkowski - decent
Bellerin - decent but may be rotated. David Luiz could be a safer bet
Daniels - likely to be second choice now they have a new left back
Digne - dont like everton df at all.

Overall think you probably want at least one premium 6+ DF instead of the 2x5m

Not many people seem to be going with King who has averaged around 130 points over last 3 seasons which going off last season puts him ahead of Jesus and Morata who are premium strikers.

At 6.5 with 9 of their first 10 fixtures looking good and on pens he looks great value.

Couple of quick ones guys. First, which looks better:
    A ) Eriksen + Mane
    B) Mhiki + Salah

Secondly, can any Liverpool fans discuss which player Shaq is going to take minutes from? Is Mane going to be regularly subbed on 65 minutes, for example? Or will it be rotation with Firmino?

    Robertson - Coleman - Cedric - Tomkins - WanB

    Aubameyang - Arnautovic - Tosun

This is my draft at the mo.

          Patricio. 4.0
          Robertson. Mendy. Cedric. Tompkins. 4.0
          Salah. Eriksen. Richarlison. Neves. 4.5
          Aguero. Firmino. Arnie.

Have 0.5 in bank. Not sure where to use it.

Cedric is late to pre-season after world cup exploits, and *apparently* is a doubt for gw 1 but I don't have a source for that.
KDB may well not start GW 1, in fact he probably won't. Check the CS to make sure
Fraser is a punt who I've been looking at, but I'm not sure he's good enough to play week in week out.

Are you looking at a 3-4-3?

Mods don't want any RMTs on this main pages. Personally I think it's less of a problem during DZ, but if people actually replied to other RMTs instead of just caring about their own we wouldn't have this problem 😉

Yeah I can see how that could sound passive aggressive but it wasn't intended to be tbh.

It was genuinely a plea @ the whole community to try and help each other out a bit more. The RMT article has been really working at peak times, lots of replies for everyone, but at this sort of time every person counts.

No offense intended my friend 🙂

                Non taken.
I realise that and your doing a diligent job. It’s seem s that it’s coming more and more to the fore these days when someone posts comment on social media with an emoji next to it and that’s meant to make it ok. So it’s not you and the comment wasn’t that bad.
I will get round to rating a few teams this afternoon when I don’t have little ones wanting my attention.
Thanks for looking at my team.

Thanks for the feedback, all fair points.

Will look for Cedric replacement - which national team was he with?
Might do KdB > Mane/Sane to start? CS?
Hopefully Frasers break through season 😀

Yeah always play 3-4-3 but this squad allows for a bit more 3-3-4

He's Portuguese, so the exploits of watching Ronaldo carry his team might have been tiring 😉

Mane for me. Sane gametime at risk with Mendy about.

CS = Community Shield. Not clean sheet as I spent ages thinking, much to my confusion 😆

Big hopes for Fraser, talented, attacking and a good price

      No Kiko!? You've changed! 😉
Mhikitaryans minutes seem to be in question at the moment. He does look great value if he's nailed. Could be worth leaving him out for the first couple of games (Man City and Chelsea)and then jumping on if he's getting decent minutes coinciding with a change to good fixtures.

    Ederson
    Mendy / Bailly / Lovren
De Bruyne / Mané / Eriksen / Pogba
    Firmino / Zaha / Arnautovic

    Hamer/ Tomkins / Wan-Bissaka / Cairney

Make sure Lovren and KDB are back otherwise your team is starting to look weak, especially with Zaha transfer saga potentially having s negative affect.

Love the Pogba pick. If he is nailed to start he could be a great option.

Well potentially on pens, hits his fare share of free kicks are the positives.

Plays a bit deep and not as prolific as the likes of Jota.

Neves did score a few worldies last season though.
