The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

Wow, a decent article by the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44845039

It analyses Man City's title win, demonstrating how they exploit the half-spaces to create chances.

Very good read this. Amazing that parking the bus does naff all. You actually have to try and match their intensity, get into them, deny space and force errors. Which is why Liverpool (who play similarly) beat them. Hopefully other teams will look at the article too!

      A is AWB
B is tough and pretty much subjective. BHA defender? Bamba? Mine will be based on someone that I could rotate.

If I had to pick one on their credentials alone, it would either be Oop schluup or the more nailed Tomkins. Unless someone slipped my mind 😉

      A. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, a.k.a. AWB

      B. Stretch to 5m if you can, a lot better choice at that price. If you are going 4.5m, in order of preference:
      - Ward at CAR
      - Dale Stephens at BHA if you want 2pts every week
      - Masuaku at WHM who's OOP in the wrong direction (playing left-back)
      - Hudson-Odoi at CHE...punt of all punts, but looks great, Sarri likes him

City - No need to explain why.

Pool - Excellent summer buys. Now have some strength in depth.

Man-u - Boring boring but solid at the back will once again win them games.

Chelsea or Spurs - See a close race this season.

      Ps I'm almost always wrong.

I would throw Arsenal in the mix for 4th too. Aubmeyang and Emery are quality.

Sarri may take a season to get his ideas across to his players, like Pep, so we may have to wait a season before we see his team dazzling the league.

Hard to look past City and Pool unfortunately. No doubt United will be close behind after scraping results.

I think City have depth on another level to Liverpool, and will likely lift the trophy again. I firmly believe Pep is one of the greatest managers of all time. He's revolutionised the way football is played. He took Cruyff's wonderful vision, and built his own on top. with incredible success.

It'll be close, but I like what Klopp's bought over the summer.

Liverpool's defence is far better than City's now IMO.

There's decent depth in midfield now too.

    Coleman or Luiz?

Might sound silly, but Everton have great fixtures and he’s nailed. But they’ve looked dreadful in pre-season. On the flip side Luiz sounds like he is important for Sarri, cheap way into Chelsea’s defence but will always be lingering concerns over rotation.

    Overthinking?

    1. Holmes

CS might give some idea about his position and role, if nothing clear, I would go for Coleman and then switch later on if required

I wouldn't have Coleman at 5.5m...don't see ANY prospects of clean sheets under Silva, so you're relying entirely on attacking returns.

Luiz if he's first choice, sure. If he starts in the Charity Shield, he's probably good for starts. He'll have Jorghino and Kante protecting him too

For the same price, is Mane better than Firmino?

For now, yes. Further into the season, likely no.
Sure. Both are good picks, again later in the season I'd switch. Firm may well be the stand out choice in his price bracket, whereas Mane will almost certainly be outscored by ARS / Man C / TOT assets.

Not required, but a solid bet.

      Yes. Less competition. No WC.
Hard to tell. Depends on who’s in your side over each option. Ex. If you go Mané who’s your fwd?
Should be. But Chelsea and Arsenal could do really well early on (after gw3). Monitor and have a plan to get Haz/Auba/.

I'm not having that Salah is essential, if you get Mane instead that means a 6.5 mid could be upgraded to Eriksen, none of the mids that were priced around 6.5 last season got within 60pts of the Dane. Also gotta think that new methods are being thought of to deal with Salah seeing as he's clearly Liverpool's most dangerous player. Plus this the time to experiment, if it turns out the moppily maned one can repeat those staggering stats I'd rather get him back early before he's 13.5.
Owning Salah is just piece of mind, those prepared to think outside of the box could be in for a big season, or a long one of course

I agree but risk of not having him and being wrong will kill your season early on

Depends how people perform I think. If Salah's form suggests hell only score maybe 230-250 he's not but if he's on course for another 300pt season that's 600 points if captained. 600 plus a performing 6.5mid (not easy I know) makes let's say 750 points. I'm not sure two 9.5 mids can make up that score unless one has an exceptional year.
Because if captaincy you always want to own the top point scorer because you get two of them effectively

Also. “Elite” (FPL V) posters are saying that premium fwds are extremely poor value if not captained. Isn’t that also the case with a 13 mill mid? Wouldn’t want to perma cap Salah during the first 10 weeks. Just look at City’s fixtures.

Easy to have Salah and also Kun/Auba and captain the best option. I will captain even Kane probably during this season, even though I don't have him from the start.

        It is a herd mentality.
Plus the other myth created is that it will be much harder to get Salah in.
All you have to do is change two high priced players instead!
I think the value in liverpool is defence.
Also I think given thier strenghting I think Liverpool could become like man city and the points are shared everywhere.

Shaqiri and Gross begs to differ 🙂

Dont think everyone owning Salah has him because they think he is "essential". My guess is that most have identified him as a preferred captainpick for the first couple of weeks. Just seems silly to suggest owning Salah is about "piece of mind", when in fact most of the people owning him probably have studied a lot of different options before landing on that selection.

This argument surfaces every year with the game's so-called essential player. As history shows, there is merit in both methods going with and without the 13m man. It's been Kun and Kane before. Now Salah. We will have the same conversation next year. My guess is it will be Aubameyang.

It's true. Still, Salah being a midfielder does make it a little different to me. And it's not like Kane wasn't worth his price at times last year. Or that Aguero wouldn't be if he wasn't rotated and healthy.

It could go one of two ways.
Like Ronaldo in his heyday where missing out on him at all would be a disaster.
        He made the game easy.

        OR

Robin Van Persie when he was at Arsenal and the highest priced player in fpl and not worth his price at all.

RVP was never the most expensive player in the game whilst at Arsenal. Your thinking about his season of decline at Man United, but in fairnes, he had performed extraordinary numbers 3 years running, before he was priced at 14,0 and bombed.

I had a Salah-less team and it looked great with Mane, Eriksen and Sane with Auba and Firmino up top. It's the captaincy though. The odds of nailing the right one for Liverpool home games to compete with Salah captainers is a scary thought.

So I've gone Salah and Robbo for my Liverpool cover now. That's £19m near enough the same cost as Salah and Bobby F last season. I think to do the same double up this year at a cost of £22.5m is too much budget.

This. Just the way the market is right now. The fee looks better than it is because he's had two long term injuries... but he is proven.

          For comparison: Mitrovic £18m, Carillo £20m, Tosun £27m, Slimani £28m, Benteke £32m and then £27m+ 😆

And Burnley couldn't even get Jay Rod for £16m...

Playing in a #10 role (maybe). Probably on all free kicks and corners and pans following Rooney departure and baines looking a little old with a clear replacement having been signed.

Fanteam.com and fantasybet.com have both a 22 €/£ (100k garantee) seasonbet. Fantasybet have the same prices as fpl. Fanteam have small adjustments on some players. Both have wildcards, but no other chips.

When betting on a single GW, fantasybet is the same as fpl. fanteam is adjusting the prices on bookiesodds. The pointsystem is also different with no bonuspoints, 1 extra point for an attacker to play 90 mins, impactbonus etc.
