The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

I guess fear of the World Cup guys coming coming back and him playing too deep? Who do you think he replaces in the starting XI? (He probably will but who?) does Poch have history of gradually letting players acclimatise?

        I checked these guys: https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/spurs-transfers-rated-pochettino-alli-14429668

Both wanyama & Alderweireld started from the beginning of the season and were consistent in the first xi. Interesting point you raise...

In my team, Son may be around but no alli or lamela, kane May push for a start but cant see moura being pushed out of the team for a minimum of 4/5 weeks following his pre season

    Bottomed...

If you’re playing in a draft league (against people who don’t read this I guess!) who are you hoping to snap up in a lower round than they should really fall? (In other words who is going to be an under-rated season keeper)

Don’t know much about how the draft league works, but I reckon Siggy could be that under rated gem you’re after...
Would like to think he can get back to his best this season.

I’ve actually got him in my team atm.
I think the price tag is putting people off when Rich is 1 mil cheaper.
If he can recapture some of his old form, which I truly think he will, he could turn out to be a great pick.

    Everton keeper double up anyone?

Can see a lot of saves with Silva in charge and potentially a few clean sheets early doors, also saving 0.5 from having Ederson in goal which could be spent on Mendy...

    1. CaTriEm

Not nailed. One of his goals was a penalty (he doesn't normally take them) and he may have been playing at striker in pre-season which won't happen in the PL.

i find captaining Aguero the most stressful thing inFPL. He is so brittle, you’re just waiting for a strong gust of wind to pop his hamstring. Or Pep to take him off early. If he even starts him at all. He’s coming 31 now too, no spring chicken anymore.

Glad to have Salah as a perma captain, whateve Aguero does or doesn’t do (fingers crossed no Salah injuries!)

Good point. He has an excellent minutes per return ratio and it's easy to say we can just transfer him to someone else when he gets injured. That doesn't solve problems occurring during matches though. Points lost.

Yeah by all means go ahead & captain him, he could easily hattrick. But I cant be dealing with he waiting all weekend in GW2 for the Sunday evening game. Waiting for pep’s teamsheet first & foremost to make sure he’s starting.

Then if he’s starting, watching the game behind the sofa waiting for him to pull up injured, or with every tackle that goes in on him.

Then waiting for him to score.

Then hoping Pep doesn’t take him off before he’s scored at least twice.

If you get through all that though, he’s great!

I'm thinking about going cheap on goalies. I have tried rotation on keepers for a few years now, and always hate when my benched keeper away to a big team gets 9 points, and my playing keeper home to a bottom side loses 1-0..... for a 2 pointer. My thoughts this year are maybe go for a 4.5 fire and forget, with a 4.0 back up. cheap, but maybe could get 10-12 cleanies over the year, and id never miss their hauls.

any thoughts? ps, who do you like in this price range?

I was having this discussion earlier, and ended up on Patricio, but with Foster as back up.

Choosing the right 4.5 gk feels like its getting harder now that Pulis-ball isn't as prominent in the PL.

They do rotate well for the first few weeks, but if Patricio looks decent I'll just play him every week and hope he's this year's Fabianski or Ryan.

      thoughts on Kenedy?

Looks like a pretty good bargain for 5m

but again, there's so many good 5m

        oops sorry

I think all of them are rotational risk. I'd avoid tbh as they are all expensive

On Cairney atm as has SP and looks like doesnt play deep but few others like Hughes, Costa or Railly also looks ok

Yea I'm torn between Cairney and Hughes. Also Neves but I have Jota already so that rules Wolves out. No idea who to go with

      Shaw here also.

Shaw, Bailly, Alexis for GW1. Alexis & Shaw straight out he door for Mendy & KDB GW2.

      I predict

      GW1
      Shaw 6
      Sanchez 11

      GW2
      Transfer hit (-4)
      KDB 11
      Mendy 6

Net Total 30 points from those two slots in 2 weeks, or 7.5 points per player per game, after transfer hits. Plus will have KDB & Mendy for he long haul from there on out

    time to reflect

If all players were same price 6.6m (no price changes)

    1. what would your top 15 picks be?

    de gea / ederson

    robby / mendy / azpi / bellerin / smalling

    sanches / salah /mane /hazard /de Bruyne

    augero/ kane / auba

and here is me thinking.. that exact team would probably not finish in top 10k

I would probably be well-beaten by suspects like wood, fabianski, deulofeu, pedro, shako, zaha, arna, Duffy and co.

thoughts? why do we always go for full 100m teams if 100% of times best 11/15 is way under the 90/85m mark?

    thoughts?

As long as you get captain right that team would definitely finish in at least top 1k

Huh? What is your point? You have to spend 17m on a bench. 13m on Salah. You have 70m for your other 10.

point was that the feeling is if I create my team from 15 underpriced players such as Pedro, fabianski etc whatever I will score more then any RMTeams buffed up with priced assed such as mendy robby auger and co.

probably wrong but If I recall correctly every top 11 in past few seasons comes at below 90m mark

    7. AndyCook
      8 years, 28 days ago

With no injuries that team would walk FPL. Add up their points totals last season and you’d almost certainly find they’d have won it. What you must really mean is they aren’t the best 15 you could have - but that’s not the point, at worst they will score maybe 4 ppg each and at most 7 ppg plus but cheap players have a window more like 3 ppg to 6 ppg, the windows overlap but overall if the season was played an inifinite number of times the priciest players would come out at the top

it is risky in the sense that you are comprimising your attack for it.
