The preparation of the Fantasy Football Scout Community delved into a new level of detail as the Gameweek 1 deadline approaches.

There have been some excellent discussions in the comments this week and we’ve got plenty more articles and tables that should Fantasy managers out too.

We’ve gone over all of it in our latest Community Round-up

Community Articles

We had some excellent community articles this week as our pre-season preparation ramped up.

Rossi3245 produced two brilliant pieces this week. The first was an insightful piece on the dangers of using chips in the early Gameweeks while the second focused on an analysis of the FPL market. Both articles were well received.

With FPL Draft still something of an unknown to many Fantasy managers, Hooperman kindly put together a handy guide to running a successful league in that game mode.

We also made a start on our RMT Collection this week with Gregor revealing his team first before Spencer did so later in the week. This will be continuing with a new article every day until GW1 kicks off. Post your teams in the collection, instead of the main article, and give others some feedback!

The Hottest Topics

Mikeharbrw has gone in search of the goals again this week with two interesting Hot Topics. The first looked at teams most likely to produce a battering, the second at the opposite: whipping boys.

As expected, there has been plenty of debate over the issue of third strikers. Legomané started a conversation over whether they are a dying breed in FPL, Brosstan tried to find the best £6.5m option while Stat asked if people were considering Josh King.

We asked the community which players had been in drafts since the game launched, as well the age-old conundrum of which formation to play. Twisted Saltergater discussed the best tips for the season.

Interestingly, some seemingly established ideals were challenged this week too. Mikeharbrw asked whether David Silva is being overlooked by Fantasy managers and Your Mum’s Athletic questioned whether Manchester United defensive cover is essential for Gameweek 1. Eden Wizard went into detail about what the best midfielders offer this season.

We also had a discussion about Eliteserien’s return with Niemi starting things off by talking about Gameweek 17 transfers and captains.

There was a great conversation started by Mange Tout Rodney about FPL’s ability to distract those who play it from reality while RedArrows light-heartedly revealed his pet peeves when it comes to Fantasy Football terminology – especially the word ‘nailed’.

Which brings us nicely onto Deulofale‘s review of Arsenal and which of their players might be ‘nailed’. We hope RedArrows enjoyed that one!

Finally I issued some announcements about the site: the first was about gravs and RMTs, and the second and third related to our brand new badges and new default options on our profiles.

Members Tables

The FFS community continued its search for the ultamite budget players this week with two of members tables helping the discussion.

The-FPL-Physio looked at every striker under £7.0m, while Jonya55 honed in on the attacking statistics of midfielders valued at £5.0m or less.

Choppers13 drew up a table to help Fantasy managers use goal invovlement to find the right options for their squads.

Finally, Triggerlips produced a fantastic table entitled ‘Biggest Nut Jobs’ which focussed on headed attempts from defenders.

Community Tournaments

A reminder to all that we always welcome new Community Article and Tournament submissions. It is best to email me when submitting a Community Article, as there isn’t currently an automated notification letting us know it has been submitted.

Equally, if you have an idea for a Hot Topic or discussion that needs more visibility, feel free to flag it or email me directly: geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk.

And finally, another reminder to use your voting powers. Upvotes help mods spot useful content, as we often use the ‘Sort By: Rating’ functionality, which we can then sticky or Hot Topic it. This is increasingly important as we approach the beginning of the season!

I always liked Hughes at Derby, but what's he done at Watford that's suddenly made him a good pick? 😐

attacking mid, decent goal/assist when he came back from injury last season (see post last page, just search for 'hughes')

Yes imo but will get plenty of 2s and 3s and the odd attacking return

Standard bench fodder in other words

    4. SackWenger

You would think he will be relatively defensive, but if he plays with Kante, one of them is likely to push up so perhaps may become value, as I'd guess Kante is most likely to sit deep.

The starting 5.0 mid is still bugging me, stuck on the battle of the Number 10s now with Cairney and Hughes. Watford look like better fixtures but Cairney's so vital for Fulham, can't see him ever being dropped.. anyone convinced either way?

    3. Robson-Canoe

Cairney to begin with and you can switch to Hughes when he hits form and actually becomes a regular starter which I don't think he is yet

      1. Puyol Pants Up
        • 11 Years
        7 years, 8 months ago

Why do people think Hughes isn't a regular starter? He started the last 7 games, prior to that he was coming back from a serious injury and has 2 appearances off the bench

It definitely isn't excitement. I think the word eerie is more apt. We can't put the big names in yet, we don't know if they will play - maybe they all play and casuals will go past us. Eerie :o:

Really? I think there's almost a template but the changes could lead to a good start or bad one. Eg. mane or firmino, which gks, which man city players and our second strikers are midfielders. Big scores will be luck based

          Disagree.

I’m convinced Eriksen is better than Mane.

And I’m convinced Auba and Agero double up is better than Arnie/Firmino with a big hitter.

If I’m wrong. It’s not because of luck. It’s because I choose poorly.

I suppose I mean "til events prove otherwise" - if Eriks starts outscoring him during the next few weeks.

Spurs seem not full strength right now, Pool look strong, Mane taking pens?

Seems essential. Seriously considering dropping Salah, captaining Mane/Kun.

Would likely bring in Erik if so.

      Cedric won't start GW1 imo.
I'd say the most nailed 4.5 def options are Tomkins, Zanka, Doherty/Boly, Dunk, Hoedt and maybe Jagielka if Everton don't sign another CB

    @Mcgrejam

Can’t comment on your thread for some reason?
But I love your team pal.
I’d be tempted to either downgrade enderson or Zaha and up grade your mids. One 9.5 mid needs to be in your line up

    Fabianski

thats very strong! although I dont fancy spurs early on so id avoid Davies and maybe go bailly and upgrade the keeper,

also isnt hudson odoi unlikely to get game time ?

Hazard willian look like they are staying..

fabregas kante pedro Bakayoko Jorginho also there ahead of him id say

Nicely done leaving 1.5 itb, smart move, although I'd invest 0.5 of those in a slight upgrade from Silva to Mahrez

      Absolutely no!

How can you go into a season with two sub 7.5m and 1 4.5m strikers?

Kane Aguero Laca Auba Jesus Firmino

Once they bang in a few your entire base has to be scrapped and probably WC

If you plan on a WC early then yea it's fine!

Went without Kane all of last season quite happily, planning to do the same. In general, all the stats point towards expensive forwards providing you the least value, and I avoid them as long as I have other captain options in my team.
Dont trust Mancity attacker rotation, triple Liverpool means I will never want Firmino. The only threats are Auba Laca - but good point, I need to take those two into consideration! Thanks.

Alonso is a gonna, he won't be like last season. Have a look at Sarri's fullbacks - they aren't allowed to do much attacking and end up with one assist in 34 games if you're lucky

Planned my budget defence so back 4 only play easy fixtures for first three GWs.

Car (twice), Sou (Twice), Wes (twice), Wat (twice), Wol, Ful, Bou, Bri.

Expect around 7 clean sheets and a couple of attacking returns, estimating around 60 points.

Allows me to have strong (69m) front 7.

    Mane, Eriksen, Siggy, Sanchez
    Zaha, Aguero, Firmino

Using 3 subs (4 point hit) after GW2 to get in 2 x Ars attacks and AAA (Liv).

    Team is planned to perfection.
Captain picks; GW1 Sanchez, GW2 Aguero, GW3 Aguero.

No, Salah is obviously a stand out selection however I believe it is possible spread the budget better this year and I really don't like the idea of using 'enabler' players.

        A) Salah + 'enabler'
        B) 2 x mid high scorers.

I am firmly camp B currently (however this goes against my best ever FPL season when Robin Van Persie was that season's Salah lol).

    Zaha or Tosun, and why?

    1. Egg noodle
      • 16 Years
      7 years, 8 months ago

Zaha is a proven scorer even when playing in a mediocre team. Tosun on the other hand struggled in a struggling team last season. Tosun should have better service than last season, I'm not expecting him to suddenly become a superstar.

I’m really stuck with top club assets.

City: only KDB & Ederson seem certain to start and get points.
United: only the keeper is nailed. Everyone else is uncertain or not worth the money when compared to rivals - primarily cos their manager plays such dire football.
    Chelsea: goodness knows who plays.
Arsenal: Auba and Özil, that’s it. Not certainty in defense or goal!
    Spurs: overpriced.
Liverpool: Mane, Salah and Firm. VVD and Robbo. Alisson. Only team with guarantees.

    1. Bolivian Seaman
      • 15 Years

I think aguero is a shoo in. But I agree with most points there. Rudiger is the safest chelsea player bar jorginho who nobody should ever get. Top team players are quite poor but I'm still starting with Mendy

    2. LangerznMash
      • 9 Years
      7 years, 8 months ago

CIty: KDB may play deeper this year, Aguero always going to score close to 200 points. BSilva the differential.
Utd: Sanchez for first few weeks, other than that just GK or DFs for safe bets.
Chelsea: can't trust their fullbacks this season. They will have a stand out scorer but only time will tell, just have to jump on the bandwagon as soon as possible.
      Arsenal: wait until GW3
      Spurs: Eriksen always safe bet.
Liverpool, can't go wrong on their front 3 just depends how much you willing to spend and how many slots you wanna fill.

What is the point of having a RMT section if we aren't banning RMTS here?

I dont get it. One or t'other surely. What's the plan? Not even sure why it was needed in the first place. People can skip RMTs if they wanna get to more important posts such as "Name some good films for me to watch on my couch".
