Sorloth or Bonatini is the better forward to sit on the bench?

Just go with a 4.5m if you have another bench player that starts

    The GK Conundrum.

I know that there are many different view points, and pro's and con's to each GK strategy, but personally, I don't get as much time to spend on FPL as I would like. Between work, family, and everything else, I'm lucky if i get an hour a week to make all my decisions and transfers. Over the last few years I have gone with a fixture based rotation system for reasonably cheap keepers (4.5, 4.5), occasionally hitting some good scores, but more often than not, missing hauls with my "weak fixture" keeper, making 9 saves and keeping a cleanie whilst my home match against poor opposition keeper loses 1-0. Considering all of these factors, this year I have decided to go with a fire and forget option, and would love to know your thoughts. here are my questions

    1) Which overall tactic to go for?
    a) Premium keeper, if you are doing fire and forget, its the only option worth thinking about (DDG)
    b) 5.0-5.5 you will get a good keeper at good value (Pickford, Ederson)
    c) 4.5 a value shot stopper who will rack up save points and maybe 8-10 cleanies (Patricio, Fabianski, Begovic, Foster)

    2) 4.0 bench fodder
    a) Stekelenberg
    b) Hamer
    c) Boruc
    d) someone else

Ryan and Button for me then...

      6.0 5.5 4.5 4.0 4.0

Key is to ensure the 2 4.0 defs are playing. I don't do rotation. Tried it and I always made the wrong choice!

same same, thats why im going fire and forget. just not sure which type to go with, at the moment i like the idea of 4.5/4.0. 8.5 spent in total on GKs, and potentially a decent point score.

Completely against the 4.0 keeper idea, guaranteed to go down in value and you are then 0.5 short on an early WC...

if you choose a 4.0 keeper who is NOT Speroni, then I dont think the value will drop...... at least not for a long time.

Won't be early WCing unless my hand is forced. Rotating keepers just doesn't work imo. I did it with Swansea a few years ago, vorm and xxx, and I had one of my best finishes.

lol, but if i do that then i am lured back into rotation. so i think i will just choose a 4.0 who is definitely a 2nd choice, even if he is on a different team.

That's an irrelevant point. If I'm going down the route of having a 4m keeper I'm pairing him with a keeper I want returns from. If he isn't performing I will be transferring him out to a performing keeper as ther are alot in same price bracket, I don't be relying on my 4m Back up

I tried rotation last year so frustrating, this year I’m going with Ederson. Nailed on should get around 16-20 cleanies and possibly bonus due to passing like a playmaker.

I’ve gone for Button as my 4m keeper

only problem is, my favorite 4.5 (who will definitely be starting) has 2 back ups priced at 4.5 and 4.0 respectively, and im not sure which is second and third in line.

          Who?

With Ryan, he finished 5th highest GK. 10 CS, 13 baps, 2 saved pens. Plus Brighton will be more streetwise, and he would have improved. I'm happy with my Ryan/Button double up. Select and forget

Patricio. world class keeper in a team with a great defensive record.

      2. Andy_Social
        • 14 Years
        8 years, 19 days ago

This is fine so long as you don't want 2 outfield players from that team, which you might if it's Wolves or Palace. I started with Patricio and Norris but I can see myself drafting in the likes of Doherty, Boly, Neves or Jota if they start well.

The safest option is a 5.5+ premier keeper and a 4m unused backup, but for me the difference between a good 4.5 and a prime keeper is so small that he extra 1m is better invested elsewhere. I think both Fabianski and Patricio will do well enough that you can fire&forget them. hence, I'm on Patricio and either Hamer or Stekkles.

Regarding 4m keepers dropping in value - I do think some people overthink that. Dropping to 3.9 or even 3.5 is irrelevant if you're not selling, and so long as you f&f keeper isn't injured or dropped, he just sits on your bench. If your first choice is dropped you're going to sell him, not your back-up.

          • 15 Years

So what if your 5.5 doesn't play? You'll lose points as your sub keeper is literally bench fodder. There's always a chance he'll pick up save points, have a cracker and save a pen.

Why does everyone gonfor PVA over Tomkins?

Tomkins scores preseason, mailed for a start, 1mil cheaper and outscored PVA last season over the same time on the pitch.

What am I missing that people think PVA is going to outscore Tomkins by 1mil worth of points this season?

After four years off, I’m finally hooked back in lads!

A lot of research needed to get back up to speed, I’ve a half decent team with Salah, Sane, Mikhi, Aguero and Firmino but need two £4.0m defenders and a £4.5m midfielder to accommodate - worth doing or should I downgrade Arnautovic?

There are a few 4.0 defenders, AWB (Palace), Bennett (Wolves) and Peltier (Cardiff), all of which looking like they'll play. I have 2 of these. Risky? Yep. But why not! Got plenty more GWs to correct it if needed.

As for Arnie, keep him. He was prolific at the end of last season, and pre season been good. He'll be a key player, even tho Chica is sniffing around.

Not a fan of Mikhi. There's a minefield of 6.5s, Richarlison, Pedro, Maddinson, Jota to name the most popular.

Midfield 4.5 starters are tricky, the standout 2 being Ward (Cardiff) and Stephens (Brighton)

Cheers, yep I have Pedro too actually, AWB and Bennett look like the best shouts in defence, if I swapped out Mikhi for Richarlison, I could get a £5.0 midfielder but they’re pretty uninspiring too!

With the unsure gametime etc over Kane, Lukaku, Aguero, Jesus, Firmino & Lacazette does it make sense to start with the nailed but out of form Morata?
He's going to score goals in that team.

Why are people overlooking Austin? Decent fixtures, seems nailed (for now), good pre-season and at 6.0 he is cheaper than his competition --> King/Wood/Zaha/Arnie etc

I can't bring myself to select Zaha as he has never been a prolific goalscorer. So I would consider the relative merits to be Arnie > Austin > Wood/King > Zaha with price being taken into consideration.

    Someone, please fix me ............

With Hart seemingly on the way to Burnley, i’m seriously considering him.

Mistakes in recent years mean that people rightly question his confidence but his ability as a shotstopper is well established.

With Heaton/Pope scoring brilliantly in the last 2 seasons, I think Hart will do at least as well with a run in the team. The reason those two have done so well is less to do with their natural abilities as goalkeepers, and much more to do with Dyche’s system which allows shots from range but massively restricts “big chances” for opponents. With those fixtures i’m likely to go for a Burnley double up at the back.

    What do others think?

Heaton mightnt be out for too long and I would expect him to retake the #1 in Pope's absence. Also Burnley might be vunerable this year with Europa league and a thin squad

Is Hart priced in FPL yet?

      1. Badluck Jonathan
        • 11 Years

Not yet, but can’t see him being more than 5.0m.

Dyche seems to stick with a no.1 if they’re doing well (pope over Heaton even after he recovered last season).

If Hart starts well, he could be number 1 in the league all year

He'll be 5.0, same as Pope & Heaton. But I'd expect Heaton to be #1 as soon as he's fit, or at least get his place back as soon as Hart reverts to his usual inconsistent form.

    Patricio (Fabianski)

    Firmino, Zaha, Aubameyang

    Liverpool's Defence.

I have decided that I definitely want a Liverpool defender. I am willing to spend 6 mil on Robertson, but not sure if its going to be the best option. is TAA nailed? I would like to go for a player that I can be confident will get starts for as long as possible, barring injury or alien abduction, maybe all year? what are your thoughts, and which liverpool defender do you think is the best choice for a manager that likes stability and "nailedness".

    thanks in advance!

He’s probably the one player I want to get for the season as I don’t want to miss the inevitable game where he scores and keeps a CS. Or where he scores twice.

It could be GW1, or it could be GW37, but it’s out there somewhere, I’m convinced!

And they both scored the same amount of goals last year 🙂 VVD scored on his debut v everton.

The season before VVD got 4 goals in 30 apps, Robertson got 1 in 39.

VVD has attacking threat that will eventually translate into FPL goals sooner rather than later I think

I just don’t want the hassle of checking teamsheets every game to make sure Klopp hasn’t given Moreno a game.

The Liverpool fullback roles are so demanding I don’t expect Robertson to play more than 30 games max, maybe just 25.

If Moreno is injured that might change but for now VVD appeals more.

TAA will be first choice I think once he is fully back and match fit.

      Same goes for Lovren.

If you had to have a defender from GW1, I’d go VVD or Robertson.

I dont HAVE to get one for GW1, I just kinda want to. you think its better to leave them alone for a while and then get someone nailed? do you think that VVD or Robertson wont be nailed all year? I really dont know much about their defenders, I just think they will do well at the back this year.

I reckon Robertson and VVD 32+ games and TAA maybe 25 with Clyne breathing in his neck.

Liverpool’s first choice back four is:

          RB: TAA
          LB: Robertson
          CB: Lovren
          CB: VDD

There’s the possibility of some rotation after CL matches with Gomez, Matip, Clyde and Moreno.

I think they’re more attractive at the back as the midfield has been improved (Keita, Fabinho) and they’ve finally got a top class keeper in Alisson.

VVD will potentially play 38 league matches.
Robbo shouldn't be dropped much and has more assists in him.
        Lovren is Lovren!
TAA is still young and may be rotated more often.

For me it's 50/50 between Robbo and VVD, priced the same.
I'm likely to start with Robbo with the option of switching him to TAA if I need to invest elsewhere.

Naturally made endless changes to my team. What does everyone think of the latest moves, with my inability to choose between aguero and Auba!?

Sanchez, Ward, Kamara >> Auba, gunnarson, Schlupp

    Makes my team

    Foster (Boruc)
Robertson, Luiz, Schlupp (wan bissaka, malone)
    Salah, Mane, Richarlison, Neves (gunnarson)
    Arnie, Auba, Aguero

        There will be grey areas.

If you want a rule to go by, posts that have a person's full team are generally in the RMT realm

Lots of different opinions on the best 5.5 defender, a tricky price bracket to judge but surely value to be found - votes and reasons below please

    A) Coleman
    B) Luiz
    C) Bailly
    D) PVA

      D, PVA

      crap defender greater attacker 🙂

Hard to look past Bailly. If Luiz is guaranteed a start he will be great too.

VVD, Bailly, Luiz, Mendy could very easily be a killer back 4 that doesn’t break the bank.
If Chelsea sign a 5.0 we could have a really top class yet affordable back unit on our hands

Bailly seems very popular here - out of interest what has changed since the end of last season when he was seemingly down the pecking order behind Jones and Smalling?

I assume that must have been fitness related, as Bailly is a better defender than either of those two clowns. He is very injury prone unfortunately.

Jose does love a settled defence - if he starts well he could be golden

May I ask why was King so much better in the season 16/17? I just got him in for Wood.

he was a midfielder, and he was on fire.

Thanks, I just hope I made the right decision to get him in for Wood. Its between him and Barnes because of Wood being flagged.

I think he should do well, good pre-season form and nice fixtures, Burnley have Europa League to think about

Wilson was injured for the whole of season 16/17, so he was main man upfront.

Why not? And when the season starts, the "500 points this GW - any good?" posts.

Maybe when posting a drop down comes down to select what type of post you are making, and that could auto-assign the post to a relevant article

How come David Luiz is appearing in a few teams? Reckon hes going to be a starter? Has Sarri said anything?

I know Christensen is much maligned by Fantasy managers due to his injuries last season, but I feel a bit sorry for him as it seems he'll be back-up to Luiz and Rudiger in a back 4.

Nice, Luiz, Bailly, VVD becoming a realistic option.... just need a Mendy start now as well & back 4’s will be everywhere

Who else is a viable option other than Zaha & Tosun?
