Fantasy Premier League managers have been handed an early look at Chelsea and Manchester City ahead of the 2018/19 season – and we’ve already learned a few things from the Community Shield team-sheets.

Much to our excitment, the cheaper options of Pedro (£6.5m) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (£4.5m) were both selected in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

FPL defender Victor Moses (£6.0m) was named among the substitutes but could get involved in the attacking front-three in the second-half, and is worth watching.

As for Manchester City, more of their returning World Cup stars have been declared fit for the Community Sheild than was initially expected.

Fantasy managers should pay attention to how well they cope with the occasion as they are competing today without much preparation since coming back to training.

Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m), Leroy Sané (£9.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) are of particular note as they were all in the Manchester City training camp this summer.

Meanwhile, a start for Phil Foden (£5.0m), with Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) yet to return to club duties, could provide a value route into their midfield for the early part of the season.

For more detail on the areas to follow in today’s match, READ THIS ARTICLE.

CHELSEA XI (4-3-3): Caballero; Alonso, David Luiz, Rüdiger, Azpilicueta; Barkley, Jorginho, Fabregas; Pedro, Morata, Hudson-Odoi.

MANCHESTER CITY XI (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Mendy, Laporte, Stones, Walker; Fernandinho, Foden; Mahrez, Bernardo, Sane; Aguero.

Its useful to read A or B questions because they are often applicable to your own team decisions. RMTs are almost completely useless for anyone except the person posting his team.

I prefer it massively. Cuts down a lot of the pointless spam, whilst (usually) giving better answers to RMTs. I wish the rules for what goes where was a little less vague, it makes it quite hard to make a call on it sometimes.

    7. Deulofail

Not for me. RMT is just a discussion point.

But now if I want to discuss an idea, I can't attach a team as an example.

It's only been done to appease the childish folk who can't scroll past a post they're not interested in.

A/B questions are still allowed, and are the main component in FPL decision making, but RMTs are basically glorified A/B questions, where you're just asking whether the outcome of all your A/B questions will work as a unit (or otherwise asking little A/B questions using the RMT as context).

I find RMT posts to be reasonably interesting, but I'm not really interested in nagivating to dead article to find them. They are part of the seams of FPL thought and discussion.

Noting stopping you from having a discussion in the RMT zone and from what i have been seeing there are generally better discussions in there in regards to a RMT.

        1. Deulofail
          • 10 Years
          7 years, 8 months ago

I'm not convinced there are better discussions in there, or that there will be. It'll take quite an effort to keep directing people there and reminding them to reply to other people's RMTs even though they might by hours old or even over a day old. There are about as many replies as you might expect on the main articles, I reckon, but the come much slower, which is not great for communication/discussion.

The one good thing is that that people might think a little harder before posting it, because it won't get lost on the next page so quickly. But it means that I could post something like this to discuss with whole community in reali(ish)-time https://www.fantasyfootballscout.co.uk/2018/07/21/jota-a-viable-out-of-position-fpl-option/?hc_page=8#hc_comment_18392638 Instead, it's essentially demoted because RMTs are frowned upon, even though the point is to discuss an FPL idea with everybody who's interested. I'm not likely to go to the RMT article to look for these kind of discussions because 95% of them aren't going to be like this.

I'm a bit confused sorry. Are you saying that this is a RMT? Because it definitely isn't!

            1. Deulofail
              • 10 Years
              7 years, 8 months ago

There's gotta be a line between this and a RMT, but where is it? If we're asked to give some background about the decisions behind the team, then it's not much different from what I've posted above. I also sometime post my team for context when asking a specific question. Is that a RMT?

I just think it's unecessary and sends a message that sharing your team is frowned upon and useless. That'll affect people's attitudes to RMTs and people who post them, and not in a good way. It also makes things harder for us having it on a separate, aging article. To the contrary, I think sharing your team, or a specific concept, is useful context for a discussion. The amount of discussion that consitutes a RMT becomming a non-RMT is subjective and is just likely to cause issues imo.

Anyway, I'm willing to give it a try. I just personally disagree with the decision, which I know will make me more unpopular.

I think longer posts like the one in your link should be allowed. Its the plain "RMT: [Random players]" posts that clog up the pages and add nothing.

Right but we are also being encouraged to flesh out our RMTs which actually makes them more interesting and useful than half the posts on the main article.

You'll please some of them but ye cannae please them all 😮

Overwhelmingly positive reaction and feedback to the RMT articles 🙂

There's always going to be room for little crossover, but I think that on the whole RMTs have been redirected in a very consistent manner.

It shouldn't be too difficult to keep up either. On the most part we manage to keep community submission articles clear of RMT's, and for good reason.
It's just the same deal on a slightly larger scale!

So what are the key things you've learnt from that game? I learned to avoid Chelsea for now, definitely sticking with Aguero it over Auba, B.Silva could be a real option this year, Sane not as lively as anticipated and Mendy is nailed in my team.

I don't think it's a great idea to ignore Chelsea assets because of a game with Man City of all teams, opening five fixtures still look promising to me and someone has to score points.

Huddersfield and Cardiff are many peoples favorites for the drop this season so I'd fancy some of the Chelsea players to fair pretty well from those sort of fixtures from a fantasy perspective.

Chelsea are not on Man City's level yet.
Hudson-Odoi continues to look like Chelseas best player.
      Mahrez > Sane...just
      Mendy looks set to start

It's more the questions that were raised I'll be watching out for.
      Ederson?
      Chelsea's starting XI?

Surely, at the start of the season, we’re only going to benefit from AWB being a 4.0 starter if he’s actually part of our starting XI? Seeing a lot of people with him on the bench, and not sure I understand why?

I could’ve missed something obvious, it wouldn’t be the first time.

Personally converted to a 4-3-3 as soon as I saw he was a cert to play and the rest of my XI is stacked.

My starting defence is Robertson, Mendy, Shaw and AWB atm, with Peltier on the bench.

Chalobah and Cairney are my benched midfielders at present, so if one of them doesn’t play Cairney certainly will.

            CHELSEA NEAR £75M ZAHA MOVE

Chelsea are in pole position to sign £75m-rated Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, reports the Sunday Mirror.

It had been expected that Tottenham would also make a move for the Ivorian, only for the north London club to drop their interest in the player.

That game simplified things for me. I genuinely thought there would be value in Chelsea....very much wait and see for me.

One final conundrum....for the first 2 gameweeks

Is it better to start with Eriksen and Arnie with 0.5 ITB, then upgrade to KDB in GW3

Or start with Bernardo Silva & Firmino and then switch to KDB and Arnie in GW3

After todays performance I'm convinced that no Chelsea players are worth investing in atm. Will reconsider if they start improving after the first few gameweeks.

I was originally set on having either Alonso or Azpilicueta, but they just seem too expensive for what could be a bad start to the season.

    Anyone else thinking similar?

Yes, the manager needs time to get his tactics through to them. Come back in a few weeks - maybe 2nd international break.

D.Silva, Mahrez or Sane? Will anyway keep money ITB for switching to KDB, so price doesn't matter.

Costa or Cairney take your pick whatever works for how much you’ll need to rotate

      Same problem....
So not easy. Im on Cairney as on SP and a bit more attacking than for example Neves.
Hughes or Costa also good but its a gamble. Think that SP swings it for Cairney

    Hi guys.

Would you consider Mahrez or Eriksen a better pick to start? Having Kun in the front

Pretend you don't have Kun. It's Mahrez vs Eriksen in the end.

        Yes, true.

However sometimes a whole team isn't playing very well and it is good to diversify.

        Which one would you prefer?
