Fantasy Premier League managers have been handed an early look at Chelsea and Manchester City ahead of the 2018/19 season – and we’ve already learned a few things from the Community Shield team-sheets.

Much to our excitment, the cheaper options of Pedro (£6.5m) and Callum Hudson-Odoi (£4.5m) were both selected in Chelsea’s starting line-up.

FPL defender Victor Moses (£6.0m) was named among the substitutes but could get involved in the attacking front-three in the second-half, and is worth watching.

As for Manchester City, more of their returning World Cup stars have been declared fit for the Community Sheild than was initially expected.

Fantasy managers should pay attention to how well they cope with the occasion as they are competing today without much preparation since coming back to training.

Riyad Mahrez (£9.0m), Leroy Sané (£9.5m) and Benjamin Mendy (£6.0m) are of particular note as they were all in the Manchester City training camp this summer.

Meanwhile, a start for Phil Foden (£5.0m), with Raheem Sterling (£11.0m) and Kevin De Bruyne (£10.0m) yet to return to club duties, could provide a value route into their midfield for the early part of the season.

For more detail on the areas to follow in today’s match, READ THIS ARTICLE.

CHELSEA XI (4-3-3): Caballero; Alonso, David Luiz, Rüdiger, Azpilicueta; Barkley, Jorginho, Fabregas; Pedro, Morata, Hudson-Odoi.

MANCHESTER CITY XI (4-2-3-1): Bravo; Mendy, Laporte, Stones, Walker; Fernandinho, Foden; Mahrez, Bernardo, Sane; Aguero.

Any Liverpool fans fancy taking a shot at how Shaqiri will fit into the team?

Will he be an impact sub? Will he be starting?

He is young (26), full of confidence, has solid EPL experience and played over 3000 minutes last season. I don't see him being happy as an impact sub?

He seems like the cover for Salah, Mane, Firmino and Keita, but otherwise a sub.

When all is said and done, Bernardo will probably play the most minutes from all of the rotated attackers. Not necessarily the most starts though.

I want him to get more minutes over Silva. Get used to that position.

Why do players consistently shoot at the middle of the goal? Hudson-Odoi struck the ball nicely enough, but why not prioritise beating the keeper? Something I can never understand?

Why do players consistently miss the target? I don't understand why the goal is so big and these professional players find row z so often?

    3. Zilla
      • 8 Years
      8 years, 22 days ago

I mean there are a lot of factors when shooting. If you've ever played football you know things like this happen.

      1. Deulofail
        • 10 Years
        8 years, 22 days ago

I know things like this happen. That much is clear from my post. I'm wondering why some players consisently aim for the centre of the goal.

        1. @persecuted_by_mods
          8 years, 22 days ago

Some responses seem rude to you but for someone who makes such good informed posts normally it's a weird question. They're not aiming for the middle, they're just striking it wrong, it happens

          1. Deulofail
            • 10 Years
            8 years, 22 days ago

Can't say I agree. Hudson-Odoi must know that he needs to change his body shape/angle to aim for another area of the goal. He hit the ball as cleanly as he could have hoped. I think it tends to be more related to a lack of composure and/or pressure to get the ball on taget as quick as possible. But from a spectating point of view, you can often see a clearer picture than the player, which is why it's frustrating, along with the fact they get paid a shite ton of money to just go through the motions without the level of intelligence or efficiency that you'd hope.

But whatever guys. Better to just seek upvotes for when the new badge comes in 😆

            1. @persecuted_by_mods
              8 years, 22 days ago

Not seeking any upvotes, it's genuinely inexplicable that you think people are aiming for the middle of the goal on purpose. My initial thoughts were the same as the other two guys, have you played football before? If you were saying why do professional footballers end up hitting it there that's different to asking why are they aiming for the centre

              1. @persecuted_by_mods
                8 years, 22 days ago

Also you can have the right body shape and hit the ball as clean as you like and have it end up in the stands. Does that mean they were aiming for the stands?

I wasn't aiming the upvote comment at you.

My initial post said 'shoot at the middle of the goal', not 'aiming', but it all comes under the same umbrella because it's complex, as Zilla alludes too. I'm interested in exploring the explanations for the ball heading towards centre of the goal, be it intentional or not.

The most important word in my post was "consisently". Two responses now have said it 'happens', but that's shirking the question of it happening frequently in general and more frequently for specific players.

My contentention is that players with a better schematic representation of the current placement of the players around him, the gola and the goalkeeper are much better finishers than those who are less aware or have a less rapid, accurate and dynamic representation of space in their minds. Player may be shooting at the general area of the goal and hoping that the quality of the strike is enough to cause issues in front of goal, because they don't have the time to take a good long look at the situation before striking.

But I'm the only one interested in this, so I'm confused as to why I have any replies at all.

                1. @persecuted_by_mods
                  8 years, 22 days ago

Ah fair enough, apologies from all of us then or at least me. Sounded like you were asking why they aim there whether intentional or not- which seems crazy because there are so many factors but now I see you're genuinely interested in all the variables/factors that lead to them happening. I'd still question the consistently part though, would need to see data on where shots end up

    4. @FPL_Chess
      8 years, 22 days ago

Goalkeepers used to wear a bright coloured jersey so the attacking player would sub-consciously aim at the goalkeeper. Strange but true.

        Great response. Thanks!

I wonder why that would be expected to cause a player to aim at the GK and not away from him, though....

Same dilemma here, just wait and see what/if Chelsea sell/buy some that can play/did play winger....
I love Richarlison but new team, new surroundings.....better to wait there I guess
