It’s a welcome return for our Captain Sensible article as the return of Fantasy Premier League action is now very close.

The second international break of the season has given us plenty of time to weigh up our skipper decisions for Gameweek 9.

As per usual, Sergio Aguero, Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah all figure in the debate. We’ll be looking at the results of our poll as well as the underlying data behind the options themselves, their teams and their respective Gameweek 9 opposition.

Captain Poll

Not for the first time this season, Sergio Aguero (Ā£11.3m) is the runaway leader of the captain poll. At the time of writing, the Manchester City striker boasts a 44.69% share of the vote and was considerably clear of second-placed Eden Hazard (Ā£11.3m).

The Chelsea man has just under 13% backing thus far. Both he and Aguero may have been boosted by the fact that Mohamed Salah (Ā£12.8m) is an injury doubt for Gameweek 9 when it came to the voting process.

Hazard especially has also been more reliable than the Egyptian this season and leads his rival on goal involvements by a score of ten to five. That is why the easier fixture for Salah is not so enticing, even if Hazard is facing Manchester United.

Interestingly, Raheem Sterling (Ā£11.2m) is still yet to trouble this season’s big three. He sits fourth in the vote with a little under 7% of the votes in our poll, despite blanking in just one of his Premier League appearances in 2018/19 and outscoring Aguero in every home match. That could indicate that many of those who participated in the poll are struggling to fit him into their squads given their current structure and are looking elsewhere for the captaincy.

Alexandre Lacazette‘s (Ā£9.7m) recent form has him hot on Sterling’s trail in the captain poll. He currently edges Harry Kane‘s (Ā£12.5m) 4.55% share of the vote with a backing of 4.63% at the time of writing.

Surprisingly, up next is Marcos Alonso (Ā£7.0m) whose 2.48% score is nearly more than double that of Alexandar Mitrovic (Ā£6.9m), Callum Wilson (Ā£6.4m) and Richarlison (Ā£6.8m).

Is it a bad idea to double up on Liverpool defence on WC?

That's my thinking mate, just feels wrong to double up on anyone in defence haha

They have good fixtures and not too much rotation so it's not a bad idea but would go for more clubs

The only risk is if Mane, Firmino and Salah start being prolific and Liverpool score 3+ a game. Then you're trapped and unable to double-up in attack.

If I want Haz Aguero Alonso Robbo Richa Maddison I have only one place for Liverpool Midfielder anyway. For now the this place is taken by Raheem until the Liverpool attackers start hauling and get rid of injuries.

Not that much of a risk. 3 goals and 3 assists between goodness knows how many players means you probably are gonna get a moderate, maybe good score whichever attacker you pick. A clean sheet will probably represent excellent value by comparison, plus the chance of an assist.

If you're planning on capping Kun I think that further supports the case for defenders

Hennessy, WB, Hojberg, Delph 1ft 1.3 itb

Best Fraser replacement? Kenedy? Knockaert? would be Schurrle but fixtures are terrible

I like the idea of Kenedy, but I may just hang on to Fraser. Depends what you're going to do with the funds. Little risky considering he may not feature tomorrow, but I'm coming around to the idea that he will + Fulham up next.

Liverpool have a history of performing well against top 6 teams, and struggling against lower teams who park the bus. With this run they're about to embark on I guess we are going to find out if this is still the case or not. Having backed Liverpool to finally win the premier league this season, I am now starting to have my doubts. Discuss

My team have a weak bench with Mane & Fraser might start on the bench/not play. This team currently sit on 8k overall ranking and worried if both not play.

Do you think Mane & Fraser āž” Salah & Brooks/Kennedy for (-4) is a wise move.

Yedlin or Balbuena? I'd be using them to cover Wolves fixtures in gwk 11,12 & 15. In those weeks

    Balbuena: BUR, hud, CAR

    Yedlin: WAT, BOU, eve

Balbuena is my first choice but with Fraser injured I might need my first sub and Yedlin (BHA) has a much better fixture this week (SPU). Am I overthinking? šŸ™‚

Who do you think is better to have?
    A-) Mendy + 5.4 mid (Neves perhaps)
    B-) Richarlison + 4.8 defender (Duffy / Yedlin / Balbuena)
    C-) Laporte + Schürrle

    Thanks.
