Richarlison (£7.0m) has been deployed on the left-wing for Everton as they host Leicester City in the opening Premier League fixture of 2019.

That has allowed Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£5.3m) to come back into the side to operate as the centre-forward, Bernard (£5.9m) dropping to the bench.

Also named among the substitutes is Seamus Coleman (£5.2m), as Jonjoe Kenny (£4.2m) returns for his first start since Everton’s last meeting with Leicester on October 6.

After being benched for the Gameweek 20 trip to Brighton, Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.3m) comes back in to skipper the Toffees, who line up in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Brazilian international Richarlison may enjoy his outing at Goodison Park today as he goes up against Danny Simpson (£4.2m), who has been deployed at right-back for the first time since Gameweek 15 today. The former title-winner is making just his third league start of the campaign.

Meanwhile, James Maddison (£6.8m) finds himself on the Leicester bench, while Hamza Choudhury (£4.3m) makes his third start in four matches. The 21-year-old was excellent in recent wins over Chelsea and Manchester City but was rested for the Gameweek 20 defeat to Cardiff.

Wes Morgan (£4.5m) fails to recover from illness which sees Jonny Evans (£4.8m) come in, while Rachid Ghezzal (£5.1m) gets back into the Leicester starting line-up since Gameweek 12.

Everton XI: Pickford; Digne, Zouma, Keane, Kenny; Gomes, Gueye; Richarlison, Sigurdsson, Walcott; Calvert-Lewin.

Leicester XI: Schmeichel; Chilwell, Maguire, Evans, Simpson; Ndidi, Mendy, Choudhury; Ghezzal, Vardy, R Pereira.

PL managers need to understand that the PL is about tight defence. It is like the NFL, defence wins titles.

The one team to break the top 6 hold was Leicester and how did they do it - keeping clean sheets and winning 1-0.

Managers like Silva, Howe etc. haven't cottoned on to it. Everton did best when they had Moyes as manager, played long ball football and had a solid defence.

Puel tried that here in the South Coast and was sacked, despite getting a top 10 finish and a cup final. Its just not exciting, which will catch criticism.

Owners are in control. If I was an owner, I would be piling money into defence. There is a reason Liverpool spent £75m on VVD.

True. At the same time, a defensive team will be praised as long as they get results. Lose 3 in a row and banners will be up. Thats the sad realitt.
An attacking coach will be given a lot of leniency, under the guise of "excting football" and " they're at least trying to win".

Its not a guise. Fans want to be entertained and so they will put up with mediocre results as long as they arent relegated in the process. No one wants Big Sam as their manager for a prolonged period.

Leicester also did it by grappling and holding anyone who got into the box. They had to clamp down on it the next season.

      I’m one of those!

However, I’d been looking st getting him in ahead of the 17 pt week anyway, just delayed too long.

Similarly, I have finally, after weeks of putting it off and seeing him score big, bought Pogba this week. Watch him blank and Pereyra / Fraser score big. Almost guaranteed!

Moyes and Fellaini (as a striker). Boot it up to Fellaini and let Richarlison, Siggy and Bernard pick up the pieces.

Everton should be playing this IMO. If you have crap defenders then play another one (even in midfield if you want) to cover for their mistakes. Has worked for Leicester and Fulham (recently under Ranieri)

      Pickford
      Mina Keane Zouma
      Coleman Gueye Gomes Digne
